We’re counting down the 50 best moments of the Denver Nuggets’ 2018-19 season. So many great things happened with the Nuggets over the last 365 days so the Stiffs wanted to go back and re-live some of the very best shots, games, quotes, and memorable events along the way. Catch up on all 50: 50-46 | 45-41
40. The rise of the Jamal Murray / Nikola Jokic two-man game
Arguably the most important development of the entire 2018-19 season. Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic took their chemistry to a whole new level this season. Murray scored 334 points in the regular season off of passes from Jokic. Jokic scored 273 points off of passes from Murray. That’s a total of 607 points directly off of assists to each other, many of which came in clutch time when the team relied on those two most. The team’s two best players found a rhythm this year that will likely form the basis for the team’s late game offense for years to come.
39. The Nuggets clinch a playoff spot for the first time since 2013
This moment with this group of guys was three years in the making. After coming up one game short in each of the previous two seasons, the Nuggets didn’t leave anything to chance, clinching a playoffs spot several weeks before the end of the regular season. You can see it in their faces that this was a great moment for them. It was a great moment for all of us.
38. “Continuity is a byproduct of loyalty.” Michael Malone & Tim Connelly get extensions
There was a run in the 90’s and early 00’s where the Nuggets seemed to have a new roster, a new coach, and a new front office every other year. Thank god the Nuggets have found the right people for the job and are loyal enough to stick with them through thick and thin. Tim Connelly assembled this roster by finding talented but overlooked players in the middle first and second round of the draft. Michael Malone has built a culture of hard work and has molded the team into a winner. In 2018-19, both guys were rewarded with contract extensions.
37. Isaiah Thomas’ debut lives up to the hype
Isaiah Thomas’ time in Denver was dissapointing, especially to IT himself as he was attempting to make a comeback after an injury plagued couple of seasons. So it’s easy to forget what a special moment it was when he checked into the game for the first time wearing Nuggets blue back in February. That first game was also his best game, as he knocked down two huge three-pointers to help the Nuggets rally back and get the win over the Kings before heading into the all-star break.
36. Jamal Murray behind the backboard
Murray is the team’s best tough shot maker and not shot he hit this season was tougher than this one. Fouled (but not called) by Mo Harkless, Murray was falling out of bounds and didn’t have an angle to get a shot off...or did he?
