Torrey Craig has played just three games in the NBA G-League as a member of the Sioux Falls SkyForce but he’s already looking like the best player on the team and one-of-if-not-the best players in the entire G-League. After falling just 1 block shy of a rare 5×5 in his debut, Craig followed up with 52 points over his next two! Craig helped lead the SkyForce to victory over the Delaware 87ers last night with an absurd stat line. 37 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists on 13-25 shooting and 4-9 from behind the three-point line.

Back in training camp, head coach Michael Malone explained what makes Craig such an interesting prospect.

Ahh, I love that kid, man. Torrey Craig is a player. I can tell you right now, Torrey Craig is a player. He’s not a two-way player. That’s what he is right now, but make no mistake, Torrey Craig is an NBA player. Last night he might’ve been the Bud Light player of the game. He was…loose ball, rebound, defense.

A lot of times when you have a player like that who’s known as a defender, he’s an (offensive) liability. Torrey Craig is not an (offensive) liability. He shoots the three ball very well. He moves very well without the ball which is a great asset to have when you’re playing with the bigs that we have. Torrey has been a stud. I told him don’t get fat headed. Keep on working, be the consistent player that you’ve been for the last three months with us. I’m a huge Torrey Craig fan.

Craig is Michael Malone type of player. He plays with an edge and he plays hard, two things Malone seems to value above all else. And although it’s just the G-League, Craig appears to be skilled enough on both ends of the floor to make it in the NBA. With Denver relatively thin at small forward and thin on high-energy, edgy players, the Nuggets may be in need of his services sooner than planned.
