According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets have agreed on a $148 million, 5 year max contract.

This comes as no surprise as the Nuggets and Jokic had been headed towards finalizing this deal ever since Denver declined Jokic’s team option back on June 25th. However, with news also coming down that Will Barton has agreed to a 4 year $54 million dollar contract, the Nuggets now find themselves very cash strapped and very much in danger of paying a large luxury tax bill. Luckily, luxury tax isn’t calculated until the end of the season so Denver will have up until the trade deadline to work out a salary dump style trade.

According to Zach Lowe of ESPN, Jokic’s deal has not options and is a fully guaranteed five years. This signing in a way should be a signal of change for Nuggets history. This is now undoubtedly Nikola’s team and this is undoubtedly the Nikola Jokic era for the Nuggets. Congrats to the Joker and congrats to Denver fans everywhere for having such a bright future secured.
