It’s a little more than a report when the team’s official social media confirms it and the owner Josh Kroenke states it in a press conference, but David Adelman has been promoted from interim head coach to full-time head coach of the Denver Nuggets going forward.
Per that same press conference, he will apparently be building out his own staff rather than simply retaining all of former head coach Michael Malone’s staff, so it will be interesting to see what changes he decides to make as the Nuggets try to bridge the knowledge gap of a first-time head coach with the win-now leadership and top-flight coaching needed to take advantage of the rest of star Nikola Jokic’s prime.
It is unusual to hire a head coach before landing a GM in the same season, but Josh Kroenke stated he really liked the connection that Adelman had with the core of the team. Now we’ll see whether an outside GM is brought in to make trades or if they feel the understudies from the same front office that had conflict with Malone and the coaching staff are going to be the ones to try to get the 2026 version of the Nuggets back to championship form and depth.
In a nice bit of news, it looks like Bruce Brown is still keeping a close eye on Denver during his Summer break, so here’s hoping he’s looking forward to a reunion with Adelman once Free Agency opens in July. What do you think, Nuggets fans?
