The Kings can ensure themselves no higher a finish than sixth from the bottom if they lose tonight. With the Magic still two games behind them, sixth from the bottom looks probable for Sacto. Etc… The 41st and final home contest for your Denver Nuggets this season. What a long, strange trip it’s been.

George Karl brings his injury-depleted, home-team Sacramento Kings squad to his home. Huh? At least last I knew, his offseason home is still in the Denver area. Karl admitted some strange feelings about this return to Denver and the Pepsi Center to ESPN, and no wonder. Several of the Denver Nuggets players he will face were amongst one of the more successful squads he’s ever coached, and you know that will be fresh in the same players minds as well. Always hard to reminisce on your last good times.

Denver has a mostly healthy squad, while Sacramento sits a few gents who account for the bulk of their wins in DeMarcus Cousins, Rudy Gay, an Nick Collison. The trio have accounted for just over three-fifths of the Kings scoring this season, so depleted might be too kind. Denver nearly beat the playoff-bound Dallas Mavericks two nights ago, and so look to finish out their home season strong. I’d expect a Nuggets win tonight.

That said, they’ve certainly been so confusing this season as to lose challenges equal to this, and I’m an alarmingly poor prognosticator, so all bets are off. If George has a trick up his sleeve for tonight, I’d expect it, as you know he’ll want to win this game. Former assistant, now interim head coach Melvin Hunt would probably enjoy the same. Should be interesting to see it play out today. If nothing else, three more bites to the end of a bitter-tasting season.

Will you be tuning in to see Karl's return to the Pepsi Center, Nuggets Nation? Or are the low 70's and Spring calling your name?
