Nike has unveiled their new jersey design for the NBA. Before you freak out, they did not release specific team designs and as of now the Denver Nuggets have not announced any re-design specific to their jerseys. Nike’s announcement covers the general jersey construction and also adds an interesting twist about road vs home jerseys.

Teams no longer will be required to wear a designated “home” jersey. Instead, the home team will be given the option of which jersey they want to wear and the road team will then select a jersey that contrasts the home team’s selection. There are still dedicated white and primary color jerseys, but they are now referred to as the Association Edition and the Icon Edition respectively. There are also going to be two alternate jerseys for each team.

So what might the Nuggets do with the new designs? Well, they could do absolutely nothing. Denver currently has four jersey’s in their rotation with their home white, powder blue away, yellow skyline alternate and white gold alternate. However, it appears that sleeved jerseys may be a thing of the past, meaning Denver would have to make some modifications to their white gold jersey. The article also notes that eight teams will have a classic edition jersey. No word if the Nuggets rainbow skyline is one of the eight classics but given how iconic that jersey is as well as the fact that Paul Millsap was given one for his press conference and the Nuggets wore them once last season, it’s fair to believe there’s a good chance the Nuggets might be one of the eight teams with a classic jersey.

Denver could also be doing a full re-design. They have not given anyone that has been introduced as a Nugget this offseason one of the standard home whites or road baby blues. While this could have been related to the simple fact that the jersey manufacturer was changing, it didn’t stop other teams such as the Philadelphia 76ers from giving Markelle Fultz a jersey when he was introduced. Perhaps the Nuggets are one of the eight teams with a classic edition jersey and aren’t quite ready to unveil a jersey overhaul which is why Millsap was given rainbow skyline threads and Monte Morris, Tyler Lydon and Trey Lyles were given a flag. Time will tell!
