And you may find yourself

Listening to a mumbling Shaq

And you may find yourself

In the same two parts of the world

And you may find yourself

Behind the wheel of a four-time repeat

And you may find yourself in a basketball house

With a basketball wife

And you may ask yourself, well

How did I get here?

Letting the days go by, let the playoffs get me down

Letting the days go by, parity going underground

Into the red again, after the cap is gone

Once in a lifetime, parity going underground

And you may ask yourself

Why am I doing this?

And you may ask yourself

Where is that merry-go-round?

And you may tell yourself

This is not my basketball house!

And you may tell yourself

This is not my basketball wife!

Letting the days go by, let the Finals hold me down

Letting the days go by, ‘Bron will knock you to the ground

Into the blues again, Nuggets season’s gone

Four times feels like a lifetime, and my head begins to pound

Same as it ever was (LeBron)

Same as it ever was (Steph)

Same as it ever was (Kevin)

Same as it ever was (other Kevin)

Same as it ever was (Klay)

Same as it ever was (Kyle)

Same as it ever was (Draymond)

Same as it ever was (J.R.)

Leads dissolving and rotations shifting

Threes splashing to the bottom of the ocean

Under the screen, give and go and go and give

Stretch the cords at the bottom of the net

Letting the days go by, let the repeat make me frown

Letting the days go by, same guys have the rock to pound

Into the orange again like a basketball

Hear their swishes barely make a sound

Letting the days go by, let the beer buzz weigh me down

Back in the men’s room, water flowing, tinkling sound

Into the blue again after the swirling’s gone

Once in a halftime, water flowing underground

And you may ask yourself

What is that beautiful passing?

And you may ask yourself

Is this what defense looks like?

And you may ask yourself

Am I right? Am I wrong?

And you may say yourself, “My God! Seriously? These guys again?”

Letting the days go by, let the same teams hold me down

Letting the days go by, ‘cause the basketball is round

Into the postseason, without the silent Nuggets

Under the rocks and stones, there’s next season to be found

Letting the days go by, let the replays get me down

Letting the days go by, without a foul to be found

Onto the bench again, after that sixth foul

Once in a series, you get to go sit down

Same as it ever was (2015)

Same as it ever was (2016)

Same as it ever was (2017)

Look where his hand was!

Time isn’t 24 seconds

Time for new teams

Same as it ever was (2018)

Letting the days go by (SAME AS IT EVER WAS!)

This feels like a lifetime

Letting the days go by…

Today starts Round Four of the heavyweight fight/NBA Finals that the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers have locked themselves into by knocking out every other challenger along the way. Again. For the prodigious fan bases of the Dubs and Cavs, this has been nearly 1,500 days of a glorious push and pull. The rest of we basketball fans in the world seem to vacillate between the awe you feel in watching the best in the business do their thing, and the feeling you feel when you had the same meal four nights in a row. Clevelanders, Bay Area denizens, and basketball purists begin tonight with their eyes wide and their jaws slack. The rest of us would just like something on the plate besides the DubsCavs smorgasbord. It seems to be making me gassy. Here’s the funniest and oft-re-tweeted post of the many about the situation, from Jason Gay:

How does it hit you, Nuggets Nation? Are you excited for these Finals, or were you ready for something else? Round Four! Same as it ever was!
