In unbelievable luck, the Denver Nuggets have selected Emmanuel Mudiay with the 7th overall pick, who played this past season for the Guangdong Southern Tigers in China. Mudiay, 19 years-old, could have easily gone in the Top 3 or even first overall. The oversized point guard, 6'5" and 200 pounds, has all the tools to be a dominant player at the NBA level.

The draws to Mudiay is his ability to play in the pick-and-roll, how he's able to attack the rim, his rebounding for a guard, and his defensive ability. His diverse game could allow him to be a multidimensional player in the League, and we could expect to see him turn into a threat for routine triple-doubles.

The drawback on Mudiay is his shooting. That's an area where he's going to need to really grow his game. But shooting is something that a player can improve on, with proper work ethic. He's lauded for being a great player in transition, but that can also run half-court sets. To be a dominant threat in the NBA, he must improve his shooting. He draws comparisons to upper echelon guys Russell Westbrook and more-and-more compare him to John Wall. Can he reach those lofty levels? The Nuggets get to find out.

This is an incredible pickup for the Nuggets, and one that allows the team to add a top tier prospect to a roster with some interesting youngsters on it. Just imagine the defensive prowess of a Mudiay backcourt partnered with Gary Harris. You could put either guy on the the opposing team's point guard, and both guys can help lead breaks. Mudiay also pairs well with Denver's big man. Running pick-and-roll sets with Jusuf Nurkic could become a Michael Malone favorite, and Mudiay played in the 2014 Nike Hoops Summit games with Nuggets incoming rookie Nikola Jokic (the teams 41st overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft). Mudiay even said that Jokic was a little bit like Dirk Nowitzki in how they were able to utilize the pick-and-pop game with each other in Portland for the Nike event.

Any way you slice it, this is an excellent pick up for the Denver Nuggets, and one that Nuggets Nation should be very excited about. Mudiay is a top tier point guard prospect, and he's now a Denver Nugget.
