The Denver Nuggets will have a G League associated team next season, according to a report by Denver Post reporter Mike Singer.

The Nuggets are one of the three teams in the NBA that currently do not have a G League team, along with the Portland Trail Blazers and Phoenix Suns. Several players on their roster have benefitted from the G League, including Monte Morris, JaMychal Green, Isaiah Hartenstein, and Bol Bol.

This is welcome news for Nuggets fans, several of whom have long called for the owners to invest in the developmental area of the organization. While other NBA teams are able to cultivate talent in the G League with control over the coaches, trainers, and playbook, the Nuggets have been at the mercy of other team’s willingness to let the Nuggets players join their G League affiliate. With a team of their own, they can try out new defensive schemes, offensive sets, focus physical training, and have more control over game minutes to get on-court experience.

The Nuggets will partner with the Grand Rapids Drive in Michigan, after that team will end their partnership with the Detroit Pistons at the end of the season. There are currently no plans for the Drive to relocate. The Pistons purchased the Northern Arizona Suns team last summer, and are planning on relocating them close to Detroit.
