We’re a little more than a week into 2021, and already it feels like an extension of the terrible, historic, strange year that was 2020. If we were hoping for a miraculous turn of events as a result of a new year, it seems that the universe had different plans, as noted by Jamal Murray in the below tweet.

This week, the world watched as rioters stormed the United States Capitol in order to protest the valid results of the 2020 presidential election. It was a sight that shocked many to the core, as the very notion of democracy was threatened before our eyes. It was also a clear reminder that, despite the results of the 2020 election, many of the issues that created the turmoil of the past year cannot be erased by a new leader. It will undoubtedly take a long time and a lot of effort in order for the nation to heal after what has transpired in such a tumultuous year.

All that we can do now is take one day at a time and hope that eventually, hopefully sometime soon, the issues that are taking hold of our nation will be in our past.

This week has felt no different from 2020, but hopefully that does not squelch our will to be better in whatever way we can.
