The Denver Nuggets have decided to part ways with Tyler Cook, the former Iowa Hawkeye forward, waiving him on Wednesday.

Cook, who played well for the Nuggets Summer League team this previous summer, had been signed to a two-way contract which allowed him to practice with the team during training camp while also participating in preseason games.

With the play of P.J. Dozier in the preseason, plus the logjam at the forward position, it didn’t make sense for the Nuggets to keep Cook around during the season. With the team having signed Bol Bol to a two-way contract, that only leaves one spot remaining on the team for a player on a two-way contract. They’re going to need an extra guard around, and it looks like the coaching staff wants to have Dozier fill that role.

Cook definitely showed that he can play on both ends of the court with energy, helping on the glass and finishing well around the rim. He’ll land somewhere, but for now, the Nuggets will have to be okay without him.

The Nuggets play the Trail Blazers Thursday at 9:00 PM ET for their next preseason game.
