Continue to hear that, if he's sitting there, Donovan Mitchell seems ticketed to the Charlotte Hornets at No. 11.— Tim Bontemps (@TimBontemps) June 22, 2017
At first glance, this doesn’t appear to be significant for the Denver Nuggets; Mitchell is widely regarded as a shooting guard prospect in the mold of Gary Harris. The Nuggets have Gary Harris themselves, meaning it wouldn’t make much sense to draft Mitchell.
However, with the way the draft board is taking shape, certain players may fall into the lap of the Nuggets if they choose to remain at 13th overall. Players like Malik Monk, Zach Collins, and Frank Ntilikina have an outside chance at falling down the draft board. Each of the three would be a interesting asset to select for Denver, and the Nuggets may have additional suitors willing to trade into the 13th pick if those players are there.
Time will tell what the Nuggets do at 13, but from the sound of things, Donovan Mitchell is penciled into the Hornets’ selection at 11. This would be a solid landing spot for Mitchell, as he would be able to work off-ball next to Kemba Walker and take pressure off of him defensively.
