The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that the Milwaukee Bucks have been granted permission to meet with Denver Nuggets assistant general manager, Arturas Karnisovas, regarding their vacant general manager position.

Karnisovas has been with the Nuggets since 2013 when he joined Tim Connelly’s staff in the front office. He was an international scout for five years with the Houston Rockets prior to joining the Nuggets.

Hailing from Lithuania and famous among basketball fans throughout Europe, Karnisovas was once one of the best European professional basketball players to never play in the NBA. In the 1990’s, he had a diverse career, playing in Spain, Greece, Italy, and France as well as playing on the Lithuanian dream team that featured Arvydas Sabonis and Sarūnas Marciulionis. That team won the bronze medal in the 1992 Olympic games in Barcelona.

Karnisovas’s reputation includes being incredibly well connected and respected throughout Europe and it is probably fair to assume that he is a large part of why the Nuggets have had so much success scouting and drafting European prospects in recent years. Nikola Jokic, selected 41st in the 2014 NBA draft, is often compared to Sabonis for his passing and excellent feel for the game.

Karnisovas had previously interviewed for the open general manager position with the Brooklyn Nets that was ultimately filled by Sean Marks in 2016.
