Trade season is upon us. The NBA’s trade deadline is just a few weeks away and should be an active one for the Denver Nuggets. The next five weeks could very well be the most important six weeks that the Nuggets have faced over the last four years. In addition to being in the middle of a competitive race for the 8th seed in the playoffs, the Nuggets have to decide which direction they want to go with several players on the roster.

Here is what you need to know:

  1. The trade deadline is February 23rd (1PM MT). Teams are free to make trades at any point up until that time and, typically speaking, most trades happen in the final days leading up to the deadline. However, with so many teams fighting for the 8th seed, it’s possible that a big deal goes down much sooner than usual.
  2. The Nuggets have already been involved in a number of rumors. Most recently in the pursuit of Atlanta Hawks power forward, Paul Millsap. Millsap is the final year of his deal and will be a free agent this summer so the price should be relatively low but there are several teams that could all use his services.
  3. Trade Rumors are funny things. This is the time of year that “sources” start sharing “rumors” that lead to “reports” that lead to chaos. The important thing to remember is that rumors rarely happen because something was leaked accidentally. Most rumors are deliberately shared to serve a purpose. Teams leak rumors to drive the price of a player up or down, agents leak rumors to get a player out of a situation that their client doesn’t want to be in, and bad reporters sometimes leak “rumors” to get clicks. So take every rumor with a grain of salt and always check the sources of those leaks.
