In a late night article in the Denver Post, Benjamin Hochman reports that the Nuggets have offered JaVale McGee a 5 year $50 million contract … but that McGee and his representatives are in “no hurry” to accept the offer and will continue to negotiate.

While this seems like a very generous offer from the Nuggets, keep in mind that the new maximum contract signed by Brook Lopez from the Brooklyn Nets (4 years roughly $60 million) may have altered the dynamics of the Nuggets negotiations just a bit. With other big men such as Omer Asik (3 years $24 million) and Roy Hibbert (4 years $58 million) also getting large contracts the going rate for centers in the NBA has increased exponentially. Hopefully the Nuggets negotiations with McGee get resolved soon. The deal, 5 years at $50 million is a generous contract offer for someone with a checkered past but seemingly unlimited potential.

Stay tuned …
