Nate Robinson still plays above the rim

Chris Trotman

If dunking was easy, everyone would do it.

When Duane Martin, Leon Robinson and Tupac Shakur came together to make Above the Rim, they forever changed how I would come to talk about dunking. Never again could I hear that phrase without thinking about the 1994 classic.

"You hear that Nutso? The boy here says he owes me. HE owes ME. Are we even? ARE WE EVEN? You don't owe me nothin. You owe yourself and ones who cared to get you here. Believe me. I know." -Shep

I'm not sure how long Nate Robinson will play for the Denver Nuggets, but he could easily get into acting after his hoops career is over. Do I think that because Robinson does an incredible job on his web-series State of Nate? Maybe. But it could also be the fact that the 5'9" Robinson could blend in well with the not-so-tall Hollywood crowd. Consider that Tupac went 5'11" and Duane Martin aka Kyle Lee Watson doesn't have his height listed on his IMDB page or his Wiki page - meaning he is lucky to be 6-feet tall. How do we know this? He didn't exactly tower over Tupac in the film.

We should also take into account that Martin was about 29 years-old when the film came out ... playing a high school kid. Robinson is 29 years-old now ... why not make a film or two in the offseason? Probably easier said than done, but I sure would like to see more basketball movies.

Anyhow, I got on this tangent because I was watching Robinson doing a variety of dunks on his Instagram account. The guy is an amazing athlete and puts in a ton of work to be able to keep playing ... you guessed it! ABOVE THE RIM!
