Denver Nuggets rumored to be interested in former Cavaliers guard Daniel Gibson

USA TODAY Sports

With a plethora of guards and a full roster, could the Nuggets really be in the market for another undersized player?

Take this rumor with a grain of salt as the Nuggets have a full roster and a already feature undersized guards in Ty Lawson, Nate Robinson, and Randy FoyeBut Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio had the following snippet in a recent article on Oct. 4th:

The Denver Nuggets may reach out to former Cavs guard Daniel Gibson, league sources told FOX Sports Ohio. Gibson spent his entire career (seven years) in Cleveland, but was not re-signed this summer.

Gibson is a 6'2", 200 pound shooting guard that has yet to sign with a team for the upcoming season. He's, a former 2nd round pick in 2006 (42nd overall), is a career 40.7% three-point shooter, but has seen his numbers dip in that department over the last four seasons from 47.7% in 2009-10 to 40.3%, 39.6%, and 34.4% last year. Those are all still pretty good numbers, especially considering he takes 3.6 threes per game over the course of his career.

The only problem the Nuggets would have in adding Gibson is making room for him. Currently, the only player without a guaranteed contract heading into the season is second-year forward Quincy Miller. Quincy has seen significant playing time thus far in training camp and has been working closely with Brian Shaw. It would be ludicrous to think he would be dumped to add the 27 year-old (28 in Feb.) Gibson.

The Nuggets could make a trade to open up a roster spot with guys like Evan Fournier, Jordan Hamilton, or Andre Miller, but those seem like remote possibilities - especially in Fournier's case. You'd also have to consider that Denver could really only trade Andre's $5 million salary this season for another player and since only contenders without salary cap room would likely want to add the veteran, it's not likely the team could deal him to create room for a guy like Gibson.

So, while the rumor is out there - it doesn't seem like Denver is a possible fit for Daniel "Boobie" Gibson.
