Nuggets at Rockets recap: High scoring fourth quarter helps Nuggets to victory

Arron Afflalo lit it up in the second half in their victory over the Houston Rockets.

A great second half performance by Arron Afflalo and Ty Lawson help the Nuggets to overcome three of the most incompetent officials in the NBA to win over the Houston Rockets 117-105.

Sometimes with the sweet, comes the sour.

Star-divide

Ty Lawson ladies and gentlemen. Let me just ease this stat line in on ya ... you know ... so you don't get excited too early. Ty had 22 points, much of which came in the fourth quarter while being aggressive and taking the ball relentlessly to the basket. As someone who has been quite harsh about Lawson's passiveness this was indeed a sight for sore eyes. Several key baskets at the end helped to make the evil Kyle Lowry work on the defensive end (Lowry had 12 points in the fourth quarter). Wait, THERE'S MORE!! Ty also dished out ... wait for it ... you ready? You may want to sit down. Ok, you're sitting? He had 15 assists as well! YES! The ultimate sign of Ty being aggressive can be found in his assist making. Fifteen of those bad boys is an even better sign than his scoring. This is the Lawson the Denver Nuggets need to see night in, night out.

Let us not forget Afflalo. After what could have been one of his worst halves of basketball this season (1 point and three fouls), AAA came roaring back in the second half (with 16 of his 17 points), hitting three point shots and playing fairly good perimeter defense on the pesky, annoying, and irritating Kevin Martin (who finished with 35 points and roughly 300 flops). I was glad to see the Afflalo of old come to the fore. He got angry, and took it on himself to make shots and play better. The Nuggets have needed that all season, and with any hope this will continue.

Two other players deserve special mention. Kenneth Faried continued his impressive play. The energy he brings is contagious and his play is infectious. Manimal finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds. He also had a couple highlight reel blocks and effectively neutralized Louis Scola. He is rounding into the player that everyone was excited about when the Nuggets drafted him and has been more impressive than just about anyone could have imagined. Kosta Koufos stepped in on some spot duty (more on why later) and continued to display why he is the best Nuggets pick and roll defender. K2 is the only one who consistently hedges on screens when the pick and roll is being run. He also has a nose for put-backs and offensive rebounds. Koufos finished with 10 points and 7 rebounds. K2 has a value in teaching the Nuggets big men how to consistently play team defense. Gotta love the Greek.

Al Harrington and Andre Miller both played well. Al still seems to be struggling with his shot, and he looks out of it (most likely from being ground into dust with as many minutes he has played), but he played okay tonight. Miller had some iffy turnovers, but had a very nice drive on Kevin Martin late in the game and he had 16 points and 4 assists. Good overall game by Dre.

Nuggets of Wisdom

One bad note for the Nuggets tonight was Timofey Mozgov stepping on a cameraman midway through the third quarter and re-spraining his left ankle. This is bad news. Moz was starting to get better and round in to shape from his previous left ankle sprain just as this happened. It's a bit concerning when big men have several leg injuries, but I'm chalking it up at this point to really bad luck. Sprained ankles are a hazard of NBA life. Hopefully Moz can get better soon and start playing. He was interviewed after the game on Altitude and said the ankle injury isn't as bad as the previous one, let's hope not.

Other than that, it's nice to head into San Antonio on a two game winning streak. It was a nice "team" win tonight for the Nuggets and hopefully these good vibes carry forward as they continue to get healthier. One more game before the nine game home stand starts on Monday. It would be great to get a win in San Antonio to avenge the pitiful performance the Nuggets put on in their last game against them before the All Star break. We shall see. In the mean time, bask in the glow of a victory over the Rockets and the good thoughts that come with it.

Good things are happening Nuggets fans.

mmm, when we're going, we run up the score too

more importantly, as we get a little bit healthier, some teams are going to pay the price for beating us when we were down

First Portland, now Houston. Tomorrow Spurs?

But a few teams are going to be clobbered by us esp now that Faried is coming on and we are about to get Gallo & Nene back

I'm sure most big men would at least sprain their ankle if they stepped on a cameraman lol.

Don’t think we should be too worried about him being injury prone or anything, not yet at least.

The best part about these injuries,

Is it’s forced GK to play Faried and KK more. And now it’s established their new IDENTITY. The Nuggets are now a blue collar team. Have you noticed that they are now consistently killing their opponents on the boards? I haven’t seen them this active since Mutombo!

Their shots will eventually start falling, and when that happens it’ll be scary.

FINALLY, we have a team who beasts on the glass!

Nuggets always try to be blue collar..

How they started the season so fast. Feb just kinda grinded them. Amazing what some rest can do. Don’t think the identity is new. Just the results are getting better. Hopefully the team will keep improving.

Nah

Didn’t watch it. But also, OKC doesn’t have the amount of young bigs that Denver has. They basically have Ibaka who is a very good young big. Perkins has not been very good this season, Collison does some dirty work but think everyone know what his ceiling is… and Muhammed is at the end of his career.

It’s not really the same situation at all as Denver who has Faried, Koufos and Mozgov… all young players with potential that need minutes to reach it.

Nice win.

Hopefully the Clippers drop this game in Phoenix on ESPN.

Lawson & Faried, man… those kids go hard. I just really want to see consistency out of Ty. But they’re two great pieces moving forward.

Definitely a positive to have some momentum heading into SA, which should be a tough game. Hopefully the Nuggets come out hungry and not flat, especially with what the Spurs did to them in Denver.

Interesting Quotes from Nene About Houston

Our 60 Million Dollar Man considers Houston a “better spot” than Denver:

It’s like Brazil," Nene said. "It’s humid, like tropical. Nice. I like the players that play here. I love Denver. All my career is right there. Friends. Family. I’m in a good spot. I could have been in a better spot, but I’m in a good spot right now."

I guess its more like Brazil but I wouldn’t wish living in Houston on anyone. It is so god damn hot there that people only leave their ac’d house to get in the car with the AC. That sedentary lifestyle is why houstonites are all fat.

lots of outdoor activity. People are fat everywhere if you didn’t realize, doesn’t have to be hot. Plenty of cold and miserable places to live elsewhere. Believe me, the weather here is a lot better than anywhere in the midwest or even the east coast. Easy to be outside year round here, day and night. It’s pretty nice to be able grill and sit outside and comfortably eat and drink at night in Feb. It’s too cold in Colorado to do that comfortably until maybe July. The summers here are just spent in lakes, rivers and pools. Don’t even notice the heat when you’re near water.

Injuries arent an excuse for losing

Injuries are the only good excuse for losing – thats the truth.

Everything else evens out. Refereeing, catching teams while hot or cold, run or home or road games.

But injuries can cripple a team, a season and there is little that can be done about them.

And we’re starting to win because Faried is somewhat making up for injured players and we got bacl Ty and Moz (temporarily)

I cant wait to catch teams that danced on us when we were decimated, preferably on our home court and punch ‘em in the face and stomp on them when they’re down – esp the ones who are a league away from us talentwise -

Thats you → Houston, Golden State etc And LA1 & LA2, we’ll get you in the playoffs or next year

by sgiustra on Mar 3, 2012 10:33 AM MST reply actions

Key injuries is another point

We would be fine without Rudy, but not Gallo and Nene. Can’t wait till they are back.
I also think despite all current reports Chandler will be back on a long term deal. Batman may trade Bird ahead of time to free up money, but Chandler did say he expects to sign a long term deal here earlier. All that is happening now is negotiating tactics

Foul drawing can be learned. Rose’s FT rate has skyrocketed since his first few years in the league, as has Gallo’s. In Rose’s case some of it might be favorable treatment from the refs, but he also has gotten better at seeking contact instead of always going for an acrobatic finish.

What did you think of the technical on the Brewer dunk?

When I heard the whistle, I thought they were going to call something on the guy who went under him. The way that Brewer jumped for that dunk, he was so off balance, that even if no one was under him, he had no choice but to hang on the rim.

I almost never complain about the refs

my opinion is you should be able to overcome a couple of bad calls over the course of a game. The players and coaches have to adjust to the refs. And if you have a player who is flopping for fouls – well if he’s going to get the whistle anyway, make it a hard foul. Maybe next time he’ll think twice.

Stunning quote of the day
The Knicks coaching staff didn’t use Anthony in the post before the Jeremy Lin era, but they have quickly learned that this strategy would be essential to their success. In the last game against Cleveland, Anthony posted up seven times. That is a clear indication that we can expect to see more of it on Sunday when the Knicks face the Boston Celtics, and for the rest of the season.

The knicks didn’t have Melo posting up? WTF?

My view from NY is that much of what you read about the Knicks coming from NY papers

is equivalent to the droolings of psychotics.

That includes how good, or bad the Ks are, future needs, what to do with Melo, with Amare.

The perspectives on the Ks before the trade, after the trade, since trade are so obviously rooted in the wishes of much of the media and fans. But really much depends on what Lin settles in to.

Here’s the problem. With a few exceptions, some recent disillusioned NYers, most NYers see Carmello as an – ready for this? All time great.

Recall that NY fans were polled right ater trade on the greatest NY athletes of all time. Carmello came in 7th. In NY. Without playing for the Ks yet. A city that has seen numerous Yankee jerseys and Knick jerseys retired. A city thats featured the NY football Giants.

And yet NY fans voted Melo 7th.

So whatever they expected from getting the 7th greatest NY athlete of all time, well lets just say, it hasnt worked out.

Even if Knicks are greatly improved, its really from Lin’s excellent play, not Melo and not even Amare.

Team fans takes on players can be skewed but NY perspectives on Melo, for half of them, are psychotic – no not wrong, psychotic

Moz

Great game and the others stepped up, but am really upset to see Moz go down. what he potentially gives us is a brand new dimension to our offense. If he could just string together a long stretch of games together with Ty, I know they would start really benefiting from each other. Moz is extremely active on the P n R, and once Ty starts hitting Moz in stride, we will have another go-to when our outside shot isn’t falling. KK is a fantastic bench player, but Moz’s ability to knock down the J could make him a perfect PnR partner for Lawson. Guy needs to stay healthy!

by RoxWS2014 on Mar 3, 2012 11:38 AM MST reply actions

Now that

is the way Ty Lawson needs to be playing every game. Those are the expectations i have for Ty simply because he is capable. If Ty plays like that every night the Nuggets will not lose a ball game especially when Gallo and Nene get back. Its that simple. When Ty dominates games the Nuggets win. He always has the ability to do it… he just needs to be consistent with it! Great game and great win!

Rebounding

Back to some basic hoops here. Really liked what I saw with waves of big guys complementing the waves of guards. Pound the boards in waves and great things will happen. More WWII Red Army swarm like. You don’t need a gun, just run in front of the machine guns and when the comrade next to you is killed, pick up his gun and continue the attack. This really happened at Stalingrad.

All the boards last night, particularly those crippling offensive rebounds by Faried and others, made me think of the Moses Malone quote. “I want to thank my teammates for missing all those shots.”

So, realistically, Stiffs, when Nene returns we will see him out there a lot playing center with Kenneth Faried. You can’t keep the guy out of the lineup. He’s an instinctive, good player with more offensive moves than advertised. So that means K2 and Moz will be battling for backup status, leaving Birdman out of the picture (even the Heat don’t want him on their bench? Weird, someone has to.)

I say to Cloud’s post, Faried has more upside than Nene because physical attributes, in this case height, aren’t everything. I totally agree with CloudBurst on this: “Of course, the year isn’t over but it is safe to say that Faried will always be a better rebounder than Nene.”

Faried also has a nose for the ball and DOES NOT DISAPPEAR like Baby does. I hope this new competition wakes Nene up to play to his huge potential.

"When I played, this is how I liked to play," Karl said. "It’s a combination of North Carolina, Phoenix Suns, Doug Moe. There is a commitment to running all the time."
Smith's mistakes throughout the series have bothered Karl. "And then, of course the one with eight seconds to go, from 50 feet," Karl said. "I just love the dignity of the game being insulted right in front of me."

I agree

it would be okay to play Nene at center and Faried at power forward because Nene has plenty of experience playing center. I’ve developed a hard man crush on Faried. I just love everything about him. I love his hustle and aggression. Steal of the draft

Shooting

And who cares if KF can’t shoot jump shots? All that matters is if you can score and he can do that close to the basket. People always underrate big man foot speed. A quicker big guy can absolutely waste a slew-footed one. That’s the old John Wooden key in evaluating players.

That's okay as a temporary rotation

when Mozzy is healthy, I think it’s Mozzy and Kouf at C, with Nene and Faried at PF, and hopefully Harrington at 3.

Agreed as well

But for now, GK is more comfortable with “smaller” ball until the young guys improve. I think this team has a lot of parts and I like the talent they’ve put together.

Smith's mistakes throughout the series have bothered Karl. "And then, of course the one with eight seconds to go, from 50 feet," Karl said. "I just love the dignity of the game being insulted right in front of me."

Harrington is the one who’s looking like the odd man out eventually, as much as we want him to the guy is simply too slow to defend at SF. Wilson gets the backup SF minutes over Brewer, then gets some SG minutes next year as well as Rudy F and Dre are no longer likely to be here. It’d be super congested down the stretch this year when everyone is healthy, but you’d have a pretty tight 9 going into next year.

I think a 3 for 1 trade at the deadline would be pretty useful though, as it’s become apparent that Faried and Ham can play so that gives the Nuggets 12 rotation quality guys which is way too many.

I’d call the Cavs about Anderson Varejao even though they say he’s not available. They should be looking to get worse, and even though I love Moz and Kouf’s potential, a proven defensive center like Andy V. makes the Nuggets a contender in the WC IMO.

i keep dancing on my own.

by atomiccafe on Mar 3, 2012 12:52 PM MST up reply actions

I don't see a way to have it make sense for Cleveland

They have Varajao for three more years on a reasonable deal, and he is one of their better players. They don’t need to clear cap space. Harrington and Kouf for him works in the trade machine, but why would they do it?

Formerly KS and CS

by ThrowItDownBigManThrowItDown on Mar 3, 2012 12:59 PM MST up reply actions

you’d have to give up good prospects, not just filler, and also picks. So like Hamilton and Mozgov.

Other guy that I doubt is on the block but would be awesome is Gortat. None of the other guys who are rumored to be getting traded (Monta, Rondo, Brandon Jennings) do much for me. Would you take a chance on Bogut? He’s pretty great but he’s been hurt a lot.

i keep dancing on my own.

The best chance could be facilitating other trades

I think the chances of howard getting traded are low, but there will be other trades. They can facilitate multiteam trades to make it work for everyone.

yeah you still have to figure our who you want to target, and there aren’t a ton of guys who would upgrade the Nuggets rotation that change hands every year. Wouldn’t mind trying to snag a pick or so for some of the guys who are going to end up at the end of the bench anyway, if that’s possible either.

i keep dancing on my own.

by atomiccafe on Mar 3, 2012 1:08 PM MST up reply actions

We may not have stars but we have great players.

My only fear is Karl, but he has had good rotations the past two games. Maybe Karl has improved?
Our wings are solid, our front line is solid and our guards are solid.
I think we will have top 10 players at 1(Ty), 2 (AAA, and yes he is already becoming a top 10 SG), 3 (Gallo with Chanlder and Hamilton being top 20 SFs), 4(Faried and Nene, and yes Nene is a top 10 PF when he is in beast mode), 5 (Moz can bea top ten C, needs more seasoning but he will come along I am sure of it).
What we need for the future is a good backup PG to backup Stone when Miller leaves.

When will Karl recognize game and unleash the beasts?

i think you may be rating some of the Nuggs a tad bit high

but love Jhamr’s point about GK. He DID coach better. This is what I’ve been calling for. Good George instead of Evil George. This will become more of an issue as we go. NN, you sound pretty reasonable but I'll suggest this

When we have been healthy, from post trade to this year (exclude injury riddled Feb) we are about 33 – 10. That makes us a top 5 team.

How could we be that good, (performance-wise, forget about chances to win title because thats another issue) if we didnt have top players at key positions. If our best players barely eke into top 10, how could we perform like a top 5 team when healthy?

I really dont know. I’m just asking.

by sgiustra on Mar 3, 2012 12:06 PM MST up reply actions

because while the players are not in the top 10

the Nuggets have 2 players in the top 20 at every position which makes them very deep. Ie. Ty IMO is the 6th best PG behind Rose, CP3,Dwill,Westbrook,Tony Parker and Rondo. Dre is probably about 12 or 13. Gallo is about the 5th or 6th best SF while Chandler or Brewer are in the teens. Nene is a top 6 PF whil Faried slowly is working his way up the chain of PF’s. Moz and Kouf are like 15 and 16 best Centers in the league etc. Have 2 top 20 players at every position is better than having a top 3 or 5 player at 3 positions then high schoolers to fl out your roster

He certainly does

You are right about many of your points. However I think AAA is at his peak. He’s great at the role he plays for the Nuggs, but he isn’t a top 2 SG and never will be. J Ham is the only one on the team of being a top 2g in the league (guy’s gotta be more consistent, but he’s absolutely allowed to have some bad rookie games).

by RoxWS2014 on Mar 3, 2012 2:44 PM MST up reply actions

sounds about right

and we were probably deeper last year

I’ll propose this, do our best players sometimes peak at a higher position than their avg ranking? Ex, I agree with Gallo being 5, or 6.

But there are many games where only the obvious candidates are better than Gallo – LBJ, Durant.

Would be hard for Ty to move past any PGs in front of him.

And Nene simply is not producing enough, some of that due to injury. But there are many games where IMO he could go toe to toe with the best PFs including Blake and Love. He matches up with those guys because he has pretty amazing physical gifts.

by sgiustra on Mar 3, 2012 12:57 PM MST up reply actions

I am talking about future too

And I think we undderate AAA a little too much here. His game is evolving and not many people are recognizing that.
Faried will be a top ten PF and it will happen when Nene is declining.
Right now AAA is about as good as Paul George on the Pacers. But he will get better.
My current 2 guard list:
1) Kobe
2) D Wade
3) Ginobili
Wow I stopped at 3 because thinking snout other 2 guards made me realize AAA is close to top ten if not already a top ten 2 guard.
JR was better, but I don’t really know what he is doing in NYK, he may be regressing with the sudden logjam in the backcourt there

When will Karl recognize game and unleash the beasts?

I like Rudy more than Chandler

Not saying Rudy is better than Chandler. I just like Rudy’s attitude way more. I don’t get a sense at all that he doesn’t want to be in Denver, where I feel like Chandler is only courting Denver because the Nuggets can offer him the most money.

I’d rather keep Rudy long-term — he’ll cost less since he’s not as a good as Chandler — and sign Chandler to a long-term deal, play out the season with him, and then ship his ass in the off-season for picks in 2015 and 2016.

My 2¢.

Nuggets All Day Everyday

by TheMozgovCocktail on Mar 3, 2012 12:10 PM MST up reply actions

I didn't say Chandler was better

Did you not read my post?

I think we can get more value trading Chandler.

The Nuggets are a deep team with a lot of talent. Adding Chandler is going to create a log jam. Not a bad problem to have short-term. But long term? It’s going to cost more money to keep Chandler than Rudy, and since Denver has a ton of talent at the wing, keep the guy who is cheap and is a better locker room guy and get some value for the better player.

I don’t care if Rudy is up or down. He’s a bench player who isn’t going to pout if he doesn’t start and will eat less cap space and is already known to be a good locker room guy.

I don’t want to break up the beautiful bromance between him and Gallo to accommodate a pouter like Chandler.

Is your love worth the nausea it could bring?

Nuggets All Day Everyday

by TheMozgovCocktail on Mar 3, 2012 12:28 PM MST up reply actions

I was joking about the bromance aspect

Look, I’m just being realistic. I’d rather pay Rudy cheap and have him sit on the bench than spend a ton of money on a poor locker room guy.

I’d rather that money go toward locking up Ty Lawson and some other key Nuggets. Not to mention the need to get a quality back up PG since Miller is likely gone. I just don’t see how Chandler is that big of a concern when the Nuggets have Gallo and Brewer and AAA and Ham and Harrington — maybe — Rudy on the wings but only Ty and Stone at the point.

If money and minutes weren’t serious concerns, I’d be right there with you regarding Chandler. But in the real world these things are major considerations.

Is your love worth the nausea it could bring?

I still think Chandler would help this team more than Rudy

I know your issues about the money and I get that. I’ve been saying this, we should look to sign Goran Dragic to backup Ty. He played pretty well last night and i like his peskiness

Nuggets All Day Everyday

by TheMozgovCocktail on Mar 3, 2012 12:36 PM MST up reply actions

Chandler would help the team

But from a long-term perspective, I think he’d help the team more by being a tradeable asset than mucking up the chemistry.

And I’m a huge Dragic fan, so I’d be OK with that. But, again, I don’t think it is possible. Dragic is a top 20 PG and will be starting somewhere, probably pretty soon. He’s not long for a backup role.

Is your love worth the nausea it could bring?

The thing that always bugged me about Nene at center

Is that he was a terrible rebounder and K-Mart wasn’t much better. Rebounding has been a weakness for Denver for a while, and why many of us were sad about not getting DeJuan Blair.

Now Denver has a better version of Blair in Faried, who does all the things Nene doesn’t: play excellent help defense, rebound and finish down low. They could be great combo in the front court together.

But it would definitely make the rotations a bit weird. I’ll need to think this over.

I think I like Nene against backup centers better mostly which is why it makes sense to start him at PF to stagger the rotations a bit. That works nicely with playing Nene/Faried together for decent chunks, especially in the 2nd and late 3rd quarters. Lots of activity there.

GK relying on Dre and Al too much even when we have a full healthy roster. if anything, he should be giving big Al some nights off to rest.

sadly

I see him going to Al over Faried in crunch time. and Dre over Gallo or AAA

That is poppycock

That Karl would play Dre over Gallo.

He’s benched Gallo in closing time a few times in games where he is sucking it up, but he’s never replaced him with Andre Miller.

He’s also benched AAA, who was terrible to start the season while Miller was playing pretty solid in the fourth quarter. Do you remember Philly or New York? But AAA is playing great right now.

I get it that you guys don’t like Karl. I’m pretty down on him to. But there is no need to make up ridiculous shit about him. His rotations are plenty bad without having to resort to fiction.

Dude did you read my post?

Karl is going to play Al and Dre in crunch time. Who do you think is going to be the casuality because of Miller? AAA or Gallo like I just said

I must have missed the part

Where you have a psychic connection to Karl’s closing rotations once the Nuggets get healthy.

I just get frustrated

When people imagine things that Karl is going to do to get mad at him about.

I do not think AAA or Gallo are going to ride the pine in favor of Harrington and Andre Miller.

Do I think Faried might be a casualty? Unfortunately, yes.

I agree with Faried being a casuality

which makes me sad. I will hold judgement on Miller though. George loves him and will bend over backwards to please him. I hope you’re right fly

I love Faried

And I get the hating on Harrington, but I can totally understand why Karl would want Harrington out there to close. I don’t mind Al closing if he is rested and effective — lately he hasn’t been much of either, but that’s Karl playing him too long, not on Al.

Al is a scorer and someone who can hit that dagger three. There is an appeal in having such a versatile scorer for the Nuggets there.

If last night games was any indication

of George realizing how important it is to have Faried down the stretch, then hopefully this shouldn’t change when Gallo and Nene is back

Faried was AMAZING

In the stretch last night.

That putback dunk after missing those free-throws was huge. He played some smart basketball to close things out. Karl sticking with a rookie in a close game was a huge step for Karl.

i'm not entirely convince Rockets will make the playoffs

they’ve had a very soft schedule till now. It’s gonna heal up in march. THey’re only 2 losses away from slipping to 9 seed

by TyLawesome on Mar 3, 2012 12:40 PM MST up reply actions

I believe Basketball Reference has them with like a 55% chance to make the playoffs, but that is definitely 9th best. But really, out of all the teams, I can’t help but feel like the Blazers are in huge trouble despite their awesome point differential.

i keep dancing on my own.

yeah it’s possible, though I think it’d take an injury to the Clips/Lakers. Just don’t see both those teams losing enough games otherwise.

I heard blazers had the easiest first half of the season in the league

and the hardest 2nd half of the season. That’s not good for a team that’s at .500 currently. I think Rockets will finish 8th or fall out. If they do fall out, I think Utah or Minnesota will sneak into that 8th seed. Don’t trust portland right now.

this isn't your portland of years past.

they have a huge issue at point guard and center, and their bench is pretty weak. They need to make a trade and focus. Portland of years past just recovered from injuries and made a run but had no real holes.

by TyLawesome on Mar 3, 2012 12:49 PM MST up reply actions

yeah, if the Blazers suffer even a relatively minor injury to a rotation guy they’ve got some serious problems.

he had an ankle sprain maybe three weeks ago and missed like 3-4 games. Not even losing LA, just an injury to a more minor rotation guy like Camby or Crawford could be devastating.

the Blazers laid a total egg in a huge game at the Nuggets, then did basically the same thing to the Heat. Felton and Wallace are grumbling. We’ll know more after the trade deadline, but that team looks close to totally quitting.

Right now it appears Spurs will play Dallas

The one team that owns the Spurs is Dallas.
Honestly, just avoid playing the Spurs in the playoffs and I think a healthy Nuggets team can take on any other team ( and yes I am in the camp that Chandler is coming back for the stretch run and will be with us long term). Although if he is not here, we can use Rudy as a stop gap until he re-signs in the summer.

When will Karl recognize game and unleash the beasts?

GK
Karl said Nene and Gallinari would be re-evaluated during Saturday’s scheduled practice.

by TyLawesome on Mar 3, 2012 12:38 PM MST reply actions

Whoa

I’d be nervous. I’m always the sort that thinks once a player is cleared to play in a game that they still sit for another week just to make sure.

I don’t know. I just remember AAA coming back from that hammy twice last year only to re-injure it.

It’d be nice, but the Nuggets are deep enough.

I could see Nene returning. I don’t think his injury is as serious as Gallo’s. But Gallo might need a bit more time.

Is your love worth the nausea it could bring?

by Fly Agaric on Mar 3, 2012 12:43 PM MST up reply actions

Gallo and Nene were both suited up on wed and yesturday

so i think they’re both cleared and Gk has just held them out so far. But I’d be for using both against the spurs. If moz is out. I’d start Nene and Faried in the front court.

by TyLawesome on Mar 3, 2012 12:47 PM MST up reply actions

That'd be awesome

if they played. I have both on my fantasy team and I’ve been getting killed the last month.

Just like the Nuggets.

Hmmm.

by Fly Agaric on Mar 3, 2012 12:48 PM MST up reply actions

Well there is your first mistake

you never want players from your favorite team on your fantasy team. If they don’t play well or are injured, it’s a double whammy.

I know!

I would have cut Nene if I knew he would have been out all fucking month.

Still, I always like to keep one Nugget or two on my roster. Now I have three, as I picked up Faried. Dude’s a double-double machine.

Nothing would make me happy than to be 100% healthy and punch the Spurs in the mouth

But if either of these 2 still not 100% they must rest. The worst thing to happen is to have player back only get re injured again and be out even longer.

After Ty Lawsons 22 point 15 assist 7 rebound performance...

“Ty was pretty dominant (against Houston), but I’d actually like him to have more turnovers,” Karl said.

This guy says the most ridiculous things. He does go on to explain himself by saying he wants Ty to be more agressive, but come on man. You dont criticise a point guard for taking care of the ball. You dont say a guy should have turned the ball over 3 more times. He just had his career high assist game with only one turnover and you still find a way to nitpick. Horrible.

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
