Nuggets at Clippers recap: No more Clippers highlight reel ...

Timofey Mozgov's hard foul on the Clippers' high-flying Blake Griffin in the third quarter pretty much summed up the Nuggets emphatic victory over the Clips.

Star-divide

When Blake Griffin smacked hard onto the Staples Center hardwood early in what would become a dominant third quarter by our Nuggets, I knew last night's game was over. Whether it was the Clippers, playing their fourth game in five nights against tough opponents, had simply run out of gas or whether it was the Nuggets, playing like crap for two straight games against tough opponents, had simply had enough of the poor play and the naysaying from Nuggets Nation, we won't know for sure.

But regardless, with their 112-91 victory the Nuggets saved face after a bad week thus far and inched a little bit ahead of the Clippers in the overall Western Conference standings.

Unfortunately, because the Clippers were clearly exhausted we can't read much into this game other than the obvious observation: the Nuggets' depth was too much for the Clippers to handle, especially when fatigue kicked in. And don't let the box score fool you that shows the Clippers' bench scoring 33 points to the Nuggets' bench's 39 ... most of that production from the Clips came during meaningless garbage time.

When not playing a fourth game in five nights, the Clippers remain a team to be reckoned with. But this lockout-shortened season will serve up many four-in-fives, and seeing the debacle last night means the Clippers might slip a bit in the standings if they can't weather the scheduling. Conversely, the Nuggets - purposefully or not - were built for this lockout schedule. And while the Nuggets aren't above getting tired themselves, they can handle the schedule better than most - if not all - of their Western Conference counterparts.

Last night's outcome should have restored (some) faith that the Nuggets will do just fine in the regular season. Post-season success, however, will be a different matter altogether and I maintain my prediction that the Nuggets and Clippers will see each other at some point during the playoffs. And there's no doubt that Griffin will remember Mozgov putting him on his ass in that third quarter.

(On a side note, we apologize for the technical problems SBNation was having last night throughout the game and after the game. We believe the issues have been fixed.)

Non-Stiff(s) of the Game

Danilo Gallinari and Ty Lawson: Remember when we collectively remarked about how much not having Lawson hurt the Nuggets when they lost to the Clippers on Sunday? Lawson killed the Clips last night with his frenetic pace and combining that with Gallo making 70% of his shots proved to be too much for the Clippers to handle.

Stiff of the Game

Chauncey Billups: The effects of four games in five nights were most evident with Billups, who looked exhausted from the get-go and managed to connect on just two of his nine field goal attempts. And defensively, Billups couldn't handle Lawson, Andre Miller or Arron Afflalo (who finally had a decent game!). The Clippers would have been better off sitting Billups and giving Mo Williams his minutes.

Parting Shot

Don't read too much into last night's game. The Nuggets were the beneficiaries of a scheduling oddity that the Clippers couldn't overcome. The real test comes tonight when the Nuggets are on a back-to-back and their opponent - the Lakers - are the rested squad.

Nice game

The much maligned AAA played well last night. Good D on CP3 and looked much better on O.

Nice to see the bigs get time and play well. Good work Moz!

Words of wisdom from Chris Rock.
Sometimes I am walking with my daughter, I’m talking to my daughter, I’m looking at her, I’m pushing her in the stroller. And sometimes I pick her up and I just stare at her and I realize my only job in life is to keep her off the pole.

Keep my baby off the pole!

Do you know any accountants

Saving the world? Or lawyers? Or industrialists?

I’ll be the first to admit that there is a lot of tragedy and exploitation in stripping, which makes it no different than most fields where the management class has all the power.

I just think it is a poor reflection on our society that so many people think a woman who is a stripper is somehow an inferior individual. It is wrong to think that way.

Is your love worth the nausea it could bring?

by Fly Agaric on Feb 3, 2012 11:41 AM MST up reply actions

To me, the biggest issue is there is no long term there

There is a limited shelf life for that type of employment, so you have to be preparing yourself for some other type of job skill, which most of them probably don’t do. Even you do, then you are starting over at the bottom with probably less pay than you are used to. Unless it’s a young girl who is literally doing it to pay her way through college, seems like a counterproductive career choice.

All of this is true

I don’t claim the occupation is without its tragic elements. Just saying women who strip or do any other work in erotica aren’t subhuman.

That said, I don’t think any gal goes in thinking she is going to do it her whole life. She knows it is just a way to have fun, meet people and make shitloads of money.

They are someone's daughter.

And I didn’t take what he said as being offensive to strippers, but more to the fathers of strippers.

Being a father of 3, I think that it is a failure on the part of any girls father who lets their daughter strip.

A ton of fathers

Can’t offer their daughters the thousands of dollars a month that stripping offers. That doesn’t make them inferior people. Do you think only the very wealthy should be allowed to reproduce?

I get some guys get squeamish about their daughter being involved in anything sexual or erotic unless it is sanctioned by marriage. And it is these old-fashioned, patriarchal attitudes that I find so offensive as a feminist.

Is your love worth the nausea it could bring?

by Fly Agaric on Feb 3, 2012 12:25 PM MST up reply actions

There is your flaw.

It’s up to fathers to teach their daughters how to be empowered females. They need to teach their daughters that taking the easy way out (stripping) is going to be lucrative, but is likely to also put themselves in serious danger.

Yes, I get a little squeamish when thinking about any of my children growing up and becoming sexually active. I also don’t want them to be prudes. I want my daughter to find herself in a relationship where she is strong and treated as an equal. If she gets to the point where she feels the only way she can live the life she wants in this world is by stripping, then I have failed her as a father.

Its not an old-fashioned patriarchal attitude, it’s my love for my daughter, my desire that she gets every opportunity that I feel that she deserves, and that she has more self worth than my parents were ever able to get me. If that makes you feel uncomfortable as a feminist, than feminism is a joke.

I was being facetious about saving the world

But I would want a daughter to be educated vs getting paid to dance/ entertain men.
Even if they get less money as an educated individual, it is way better than denigrating yourself for money.
Personal opinion of course, but money is not everything and that is the problem with society. It gives people the chance to avoid learning about the world and make money off superficial looks.

quote from yahoo article on mozgov foul on griffin

It rattled me a little bit," said Griffin, who missed both free throws. "It was a good foul, a hard foul."

Gallinari said, "`We know that once Blake takes off, it’s almost impossible to block his shot. So you’ve got to find him before he takes off. Timo was able to be on the weak side at the right time. It was a tough foul, but sometimes you’ve got to do it."

Credit former Clipper Andre Miller with the suggestion.

"He had a lot of dunks on us in the first half, and Andre Miller said, `The next time he tries to dunk the ball, let’s try to put him on his behind,"’ Al Harrington said. "He almost still made it, but it was a hard foul and he missed. It was a definitely a statement for us, defensively, and it set a precedent for how we were going to play the rest of the game. Teams try to bully us because we play so fast, so it was good to be on the other end of it for once."

watching him live last night, he seems to be lost or a bit scattered quite a bit in the offensive sets. Lawson, Miller and Karl were all taking time to point things out to him.

Right now, the guy is Manimal in the paint and Balkman outside of it. Just needs to keep working on the mental side until he stops having to think so much.

I think a lot of us overlook Mozgov not given a lot of duties when he first arrived here, now he is starting and his minutes are slowly increasing. Winning tonight at home vs. LAL

Is going to be key. Can they muster what that’s going to require after last night and I’m assuming some possible flight difficulties? If so, we could potentially come out of it 3 for 3. I’m just flat out not impressed w/ Portland and with Batum out (I think) we could steal one on their court.

by stiffy on Feb 3, 2012 8:56 AM MST up reply actions

We need Mozzy Mozbourne

to play the exact same way he did last night. Tough and physical on defense, and getting to the front of the rim for good looks on offense. I was really impressed with his entire game last night. He did everything you’d want him to do. I don’t think he’s ever going to develop a true offensive game, but it may not be necessary if he can be as effective as last night on a more consistent basis. Fouls tonight will be the issue though, as Jordan is no Bynum.

We’ll definitely need more from Nene than we got last night. Wasn’t thrilled with his time on the floor. And I’m a big fan.

Anybody have the scoop on this? Forced them to play Miller during recycling time last night instead of getting some rest.

Mozgov was a force last night, doing much more than his 11 points and 7 rebounds show. Karl was coaching pretty well, called a timeout in the second quarter even before I was yelling at the TV for one, and played Kouf before garbage time. Very surprising that Bird was a DNP-CD with all the garbage time. He must really be in the J.R. house.

Ahhhhhhh.... that felt good....

GK finally put a little variety into the lineup and those were sweet results! I don’t like to say this, but it was the small lineup that pushed us back up from down 10 to catching them, BUT, as someone pointed out – then he went back to big and all that was left was in the rear view mirror. AAA – I’ve been down on him and he looked like he came around – took the ball to the hole really well – he persisted instead of kicking it back out when he was stopped – me thinks that he is going to have to adjust his game to the new personnel and be a bit more "me" oriented – he’s not going to get all those open jumpers he got last year. Moz was the man – just a nice solid game with monster presence in the lane. I have blasted Rudy’s flat feet in the past, but with help on D, he was REALLY pesky last night – he really pissed off CP3 along with Ty and AAA. I have always been an Andre fan and always will, no matter what – the guy is just… "Andre-like" – consummate pro – he has picked us up so many times this season when we could have folded. Ty – looked like he was getting his game-pace back tonight. I HATE the small ball, but will say that when Andre and Ty are in there, it isn’t like having 2 PG’s – they are both "true" offensive threats and it is a true combo of 1-2 guards. It’s when the 3rd guard gets tossed in that I start chewing my nails. Defense stunk in the first quarter/half – could have been just getting lose in an away game – but it wasn’t playoff level defense. Watched the Thunder the other night – scary good… And I stick by my GK statements – the guy still gets outcoached too much and the word stubborn until in the flames still stands… for now. That was awesome to watch!!

by mtnmagic22 on Feb 3, 2012 9:37 AM MST reply actions

Andre Miller was once again a solid player last night

Dude is NOT a problem for this team whatsoever… Quite contrarily, he’s a MAJOR asset. Nate’s article the other day raised some good points on rotations, but Miller himself, just goes out and beasts as hard as possible. Can’t fault him for goin’ in and doin’ his thing whenever called upon.

by stiffy on Feb 3, 2012 11:07 AM MST up reply actions

And I still say don't give up on Bird...

He has just been valuable so often for us – there is a reason why he is still here – he has had many good games, has changed the pace and tone and contributes. Maybe his role is diminished, but the guy is big, hustles, rebounds, blocks shots, plays good D – things this team needs. I hope this is not another “GK in the head” thing….

Feel kind of bad for Birdman.

How old is he now? I have seen glimpses of his former self, but not much. After his substance abuse issues, I was and am still, pulling for the guy, but in a word he just seems “slow”-reaction time, coordination, etc. He needs to get hungry again.

I don't understand what the big deal is

He was never a great player. He had spurts of ok ness and the one season where he was desperate to have a contract he actually hustled. After that he just stinks.

AAA can have a stretch of bad games and people want to dump him already but Andersen has mostly stunk it up his entire career and people just feel sorry for him. There is no justice.

I think GK is done tinkering with his lineups

I’ve seen him play with every possible combination already, I think he knows what combinations work and what doesnt, and it seems benching gallo had a positive effect. I think from here on out there’s going to be a more solid and consistent rotation as players get healthy and get into their groove. If only the players could be more consistent- thats a big IF… if Mozgov can give consistently give denver 11 & 7 plus 2 blocks a game, then GK wont be tempted to play small. we’ll get a clearer picture of what the nuggets are made of at the tail end of this back to back to back.

about blocking with either hand. You know your basketball. Moz is learning. Of course he looks better against a dead-tired team, but he won’t learn on the bench. Glad to see GK forced to play the bunch. Can you say, “Watch the replay today?”

NEVER DONE TINKERING

You can’t possibly be done tinkering with lineups, because we haven’t played against every variable possible yet so far this season. And even once you’ve played every team in the league it doesn’t mean you don’t go back and tinker with it the next time around, if for nothing else, to throw off the other teams strategy against you.

If sales guys acronym is ABC (Always Be Closing), a coaches should be ABT (Always Be Tinkering)…. to an extent.

Thoughts about the game

Great win for the Nuggets last night. I don’t care if the Clippers were exhausted, we went in their and took care of business. I have to admit I was a little worried after the first quarter, but the bench came in and got us back into the game.

A special shout out to AAA. I’ve been really hard on the guy, but last night he finally stepped up. I loved how he was pressuring Paul up the court. I also liked the rough fouls he put on Paul.

Mozgov: See what happens Karl when Moz gets some run. He really impressed me last night. I especially loved the hard foul he put on Griffin. He wasn’t going to be in another poster.

Don't read too much into this win

Actually, this win tells me a great deal. In this compacted season, it is expected that teams should be able to perform 4 games in 5 nights. OKC has won under those conditions, the Nuggets won under those conditions, so why couldn’t Lob City? The teams that will go furthest this season are the ones that will figure out a way to win games like this, so yes, I will read a good bit into this game.

Heres what I read...

The clippers are a good, not great team. Mediocre point differential. 75% of games played in LA. Their record is a paper tiger given that point spread. The nuggets are a top 5 nba team. The clips are a top 15 team. It showed last night

by oxsnard on Feb 3, 2012 11:00 AM MST via Android app up reply actions

Strength of Schedule.

The Nuggets are not a top five NBA team. Maybe top eight or ten. The Clippers are not either, but they will be in a month.

The Clippers have played the hardest SOS so far this year @ .581, while the Nuggets have played the ninth hardest schedule @ .539.

I agree that the Clipper’s schedule has been weighted heavily with home games, but their home games have not been easy. They have wins over Miami, OK City, Memphis, Los Angeles and Portland,. They lost to the Bulls, Nuggets and the T-Wolves on a last second 3 from Love.

Clipper fan checking in.

I was pulling for the Nuggets last night to beat the Lakers, but apparently, much like the Clippers the night before, they could not figure out how to win a game when they are tired. Gallinaro looked slower than I can ever remember and his threes were bricks. Tired legs are a problem no matter who you play for.

Last night, the Clippers started fast in the first quarter, like they usually do, but looked incredibally slow after that. Part of it was Denver’s team speed, but part of it was fatigue.

I think Denver and the Clippers will have a nice little rivalry going forward. Both teams are young, talented and staking their claim in the West for years to come.

Won't make too much of a difference

I also wonder how Kmart will feel coming off the bench.
Remember KMart a arranged pedestrian #s in China, while Wilson and JR are lighting it up.
It could be a attitude thing or it could be an injury thing.
Either way, it’s not the same KMart we were used to. And he won’t get too many minutes when his carbon copy, Blake Griffin, plays ahead of him.
KMart may get some points of CP3 lobs, but I don’t know how effective he will be.

He is still a great upgrade for him

their bench post depth is brutally bad, when Reggie Evans is clearly the best guy. He’ll get 15 per game behind Blake and probably another 10 or so alongside him. Gives them lots more lineup flexibility and raises the talent level. He is definitely a strong play for them and the Clips are improved.

by Teekalong on Feb 3, 2012 11:30 AM MST up reply actions

That's true

But does the volatile KMart realize he is coming off the bench? He is a great defender though, I will give him that. But he would be better suited for defense in crunch time situations than Griffin, but Griffin will get minutes over him and KMart won’t be a happy camper about that.

Timo's hard fouls will stop the refs from calling the soft fouls...

….or so I believe and hope. It seems that if Timo can get a sort of Kenyon Martin rep for harder fouls, the refs will be that much more likely to stop calling him for the ticky-tac fouls that currently plague him.

I want the whole team to earn their fouls….none of this “and 1” stuff. Go Kenyon Martin, if your going to foul, then make sure it is a solid foul.

Best game I’d ever been to! Man, I had Clipper fans rubbing it in my face after the first quarter, one of them even made it a little personal and was really douchey. Then when the Nuggets came storming back I was giving it back to them! It was a great moment for myself personally. Great game.

I was screaming “AL, HEY AL COME HERE” and he stopped for a second and I told him that I wrote him a diss column last year on Denverstiffs and that I was going to go through with printing out the article and eating it on webcam. He laughed while walking to the locker room and just told me to “twitter it, you know where to find me” basically.

He acted as if he already had read the article though.

A little love from John Hollinger (Insider PER Diem)
• That New No. 1 in the Power Rankings alluded to earlier? That would be the Denver Nuggets, who ascended to the top spot on the heels of an impressive road blowout of the Clippers. Denver now projects to have a 1-in-3 chance of claiming the top seed in the West, rivaling the odds of current first-place side Oklahoma City.

Denver is only fourth in scoring margin, but, adjusting for home-road splits, the Nuggets have played a tougher schedule than the three Eastern teams ahead of them (this will be a recurrent story this season, as noted above), and as a result outdistance the Bulls by 0.17 points and the Heat and Sixers by a bit more.

If they still have the top spot on Monday, they’ll have earned it. Denver’s game in L.A. last night began what I consider the worst back-to-back-to-back on the schedule all season. The Nuggets go from L.A. to Denver to host the Lakers tonight, then fly to Portland to visit the Blazers on Saturday. Not only does that mean three tough opponents, but the travel is fairly ridiculous — two nearly 1,000-mile flights with a major altitude change accompanying each. Don’t be shocked if the Nuggets lose by 25 in Portland on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Denver’s rise as the favorite for the No. 2 position in the West also creates another interesting situation that we haven’t seen since the split to three divisions. It’s possible that the Blazers could finish with the conference’s third-best record but be relegated to the No. 5 seed in the West, because spots No. 3 and No. 4 would be reserved for the winners of the Southwest and Pacific Divisions.

If so, the Blazers would still have home-court advantage in the first round, but would be forced to play the top seed in Round 2 if they advanced. This scenario is also theoretically possible with the Jazz or Timberwolves, but one presumes it’s more likely to happen with Portland.

So, what do we make of these Denver Nuggets?

It’s a question we’ve tossed around for months now, or at least since Feb. 22, 2010, when the infamous Carmelo Anthony trade was finally consummated. With a third of the 2011-12 season in the books, it seems the public still doesn’t have a good grip on the surging squad. Perhaps it’s because the Nuggets boast nary a household name. Perhaps it’s because they don’t play in Los Angeles or New York.

Or perhaps it’s because conventional wisdom assumes superstar-less teams aren’t supposed to be this good in a superstar league. Just how good are these Denver Nuggets?

The post-Carmelo era

Much like the infamous “Herschel Walker” trade in the NFL, the Nuggets dealt their franchise player for young players ready to bloom and a bounty of promising assets. Before last season, SportsNation voters ranked Anthony as the sixth-best player in the NBA, so it was probably a bit shocking for the public to see the Nuggets play significantly better without him. At the time of the trade, the Nuggets were 32-25. Since then, the star-less Nuggets are 33-14, matching their pre-trade win total in 11 fewer games. Meanwhile, the Knicks have struggled just to keep their heads above water, disproving the tired maxim that the team that lands the best player automatically wins the deal.

Since the Anthony trade (or the Danilo Gallinari trade, if you will), the Nuggets haven’t just been good; they’ve been great. The Nuggets have posted a bigger efficiency differential (plus-8.5) — which is simply how much they beat opponents every 100 possessions — over that time than the Miami Heat (plus-7.9), Oklahoma City Thunder (plus-6.8) and every other team not named the Chicago Bulls (plus-10.3).

How have they done it? By locking down the defensive end. Coach George Karl and Anthony have traded barbs about Anthony’s dedication to the defensive side of the ball, but the results are hard to ignore.

Before/After Carmelo Trade
Trade W L O-Rtg D-Rtg Net
Before 32 25 109.7 107.2 2.5
After 33 14 107.7 99.2 8.5

Looking at the comparison to the right, we find that the Nuggets’ defense has sharpened dramatically since Anthony jetted for the Big Apple. The team’s defensive rating dropped from 107.2 to 99.2 (remember, defensive rating is like a golf score; shaving points off your defensive rating is a good thing). The eight-point improvement on the defensive end more than compensates for the dip in offensive firepower.

This season, the Nuggets are ranked in the top-5 of just about every objective rating system. John Hollinger and Basketball-Reference both have them ranked fourth, ahead of other consensus contenders like Oklahoma City and the teams in Los Angeles. So why aren’t they getting equitable national recognition? When a team improves defensively, it’s just about the least sexy story in the sport, especially when we’re talking about a team whose fast-paced playing style obscures how stingy its defense actually is.

But aside from the team’s location and lack of a captivating source of improvement, there’s another thing going on here.

The star-less contenders

Here’s a question for you: Do the Nuggets have any legitimate All-Stars on their team? You might be able to construct a fairly persuasive argument for Ty Lawson, Gallinari, Al Harrington or Nene, but each of those candidates would need Scott Boras or Drew Rosenhaus to even have a fighting chance to earn a spot on the team over the guys who sell the jerseys.

Al Harrington
Jerome Miron/US PresswireAl Harrington has been only one of a deep and congealed Denver squad.

As cliché as it may sound, the Nuggets play team ball on both ends of the court. Their assist numbers have risen dramatically (56 percent to 62 percent) since Anthony left town, and the team’s defensive acumen has soared up the ranks once everyone bought in. With Gallinari, Lawson, Harrington and Nene, the Nuggets are stacked with young, team-focused players just a shade below the stratosphere of the elite.

This gets at the heart of why the Nuggets are a tough sell for the national audience. How can you be considered a qualified title contender if you don’t even have a star on the team? But if we have paid attention to the underwhelming performances of the Heat, Knicks and Lakers, if the pieces aren’t fitting well together and there’s no depth on the roster, then the box office star power means squat. Basketball might be more star-dependent than baseball or football, but one or two big names do not make a contender.

The household-nameless roster has worked phenomenally well in the regular season, but can it work in the playoffs when rotations shrink and games shorten?

The championship model

Conventional wisdom suggests that the Nuggets aren’t qualified for championship contender status until they have a clear No. 1 option who can take over games when called upon. All the usual suspects of contenders — Miami, Oklahoma City, Chicago, Dallas and both Los Angeles squads — share a common trait: they all have go-to guys they can lean on for scoring in a pinch.

Do the Nuggets have that guy? Before we delve into that question, we need to answer this one first: Does it really matter if they don’t? The Nuggets share the ball almost to a fault. There are 26 players with usage rates north of 26 percent (about one ball-dominant player per team) and none of them wear Denver blue. Looking at Denver’s roster, Harrington’s 25.4 percent usage rate leads the team, while Gallinari, Lawson and Nene hang just a shade above 20 percent, the standard rate if all players shared the ball equally.

Look at the list of recent champions and you’ll notice that they all have go-to scorers. The Mavericks had Dirk, the Lakers had Kobe and the Spurs had Manu and Duncan. But what about the Celtics? What about the Pistons? In their championship runs, they shared the ball much like the Nuggets have this season.

Looking at the most recent example in Boston, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett led the C’s in usage rate with 25.5 percent and 24.8 percent, respectively, that season while Ray Allen posted a 21.6 percent figure.

During that championship run, many will be surprised to learn that the Celtics actually were pretty terrible overall in crunch time, being outscored by 21 points in clutch situations (game within five points with under five minutes left). Pierce, Boston’s de facto closer, shot 1-for-14 (7.1 percent) with games in balance. Beantown triumphed over the Lakers even though its so-called closer stunk up the joint.

This is not to say that the current Nuggets squad is a mirror image of the Celtics’ title team in 2007-08 or the Pistons’ title team in 2003-04. The point is that establishing a closer in crunch time isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Most games are decided outside of clutch time and you can win just as easily if you play suffocating defense, much like the Celtics and Pistons did.

The issue is whether the Nuggets can bring the hammer on the defensive end. Right now, the Nuggets aren’t there yet and they were exposed in the playoffs last season on that end. But if they’re looking for a team-focused blueprint to copy, they can find one in the Celtics’ and Pistons’ championship teams. Denver might not have the collective talent as those crowned teams, but if we’ve learned anything, it’s time we stopped doubting the Nuggets’ ceiling.

Wilson Chandler has said that he is optimistic that the Nuggets will offer him a long-term deal when he returns from China.
Chandler is a restricted free agent and there have been rumors that Toronto is very interested, but the Nuggets can match any offers. It seems that Denver is where Chandler wants to end up, but large sums of money can change minds in a hurry. Chandler can’t return until mid-February, as he is stuck in China until his team is eliminated from the playoffs, so there are a few weeks until anything happens here. [/QUOTE]

Summer leagues and a legit preseason are the best ways to get young players up to speed for the pro game. Throwing them into a truncated regular season where your team has the chance to go deep in the playoffs isn’t the way.

I know it's not gonna happen

but I like Chandler much better as a starter, than coming off the bench. Take last year, when he came off the bench his mentality was get as many shots in as possible (similar to the role Karl carved out, and criticized, JR for). If Will’s a starter, he will be far more prone to play with the system. I know Chandler’s a good defender, but haven’t seen him go up against enough 2 guards to make a conclusive assessment. But AAA would be an ideal bench player because he is well aware of his role on the team.

that should answer questions about his will(no pun intended..well…) to be here, that’s not the Nugs hoping for the deal, that’s Chandler. It straight up says he wants to be here for awhile and he knows his role in this team by now. The Raptors are only allowed to have former Nuggets who stunk

that he’s so outright about wanting to return with the Nuggets when he has to know he’s not going to start. I think he was reluctant at first, but he seems like a very mellow and respectful guy that may actually care more about winning with an ego-less team than trying to be a star.

For some teams, we would be a nightmare.

You may have me convinced

I’ve thought all along that Chandler would be used in a trade. But that is one spectacular starting line-up. Is he capable of guarding the fastest perimeter players?

Maybe I’ve been wrong about what the Nuggets need. Maybe all we need is training camp with our full roster and a full-season schedule, along with some champagne getting cold in the ’frig.

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
