Jazz vs. Nuggets: One more for the road... (6pm MST)
Utah Jazz at Denver Nuggets, Jan 15, 2012 6:00 PM MST
The Nuggets are about to embark on a five game road trip, four East coast contests and one in Sacramento (?!?), but before they go they have one more game at home. The Utah Jazz will be making their final regular season trip to Denver tonight (Jan. 15th) and then the Nuggets wont see them until they travel to Salt Lake City on March 23rd. How about one more win for the road?
The particulars ...
Game: 13
Records:
Denver: 8-4 (6-1 at home)
Streak: Won 2
Utah: 7-4 (1-3 on the road)
Streak: Won 1
Injuries:
Denver: Rudy Fernandez (right Achilles strain) is probable. DeMarre Carroll (left hamstring strain) no timetable for return.
Utah: Earl Watson (right knee bruise) game time decision.Television: Altitude TV
Season Series: 1-0, Nuggets.
Opposition's Take: SLC Dunk
On the Nuggets current three game home-stand they hold a 2-1 record; with an unimpressive 1-1 effort over the Hornets and Nets and a big win Jan. 13th (117-104) over the Miami Heat. That Heat game showed just about everything a Nuggets fan could want. Three point shooting ... check. Inside muscle ... check. Tough defense ... check. Sharing the ball ... check. Turning up the pressure at the right times ... check. Putting a team away ... checkmate.
The best part about that Miami game - LeBron James and Company came into Denver on a day's rest. The same cannot be said for this Jazz squad. Utah played last night, in SLC, against the struggling New Jersey Nets (whom the Nuggets just whooped up on last week.) Utah won a laugher and the team has been enjoying a nice cushy schedule thus far.
Like the Nuggets, the Jazz play very well at home. This season Utah is 6-1 in the friendly confines of EnergySolutions Arena. Utah just finished up a three-game home-stand, find themselves in Denver tonight, and then quickly head home for a four-game stand. The Jazz, through 11 games, have played five road games and will have 11 home contests through Jan. 25th ... some brutal road trips must be in store.
But this one-game road trip must be an unsuccessful one, if you're a Nuggets fan. Since losing their first two games of the season (a back-to-back set), one to the Nuggets, the Jazz have gone 7-2. Some odd stats, the Jazz have only had the game's leading scorer twice, the leading rebounder four times, and leading assist man four times.
The Jazz have been playing a bit like the Nuggets, leaning on different players against different opponents. And their biggest move? Replacing second year big man Derrick Favors in the starting lineup with Paul Millsap. The undersized Millsap is averaging 14 points and 8 rebounds and can turn things on in a hurry. Against the Lakers on Jan. 11th, Millsap poured in a team-high 29 points. It'll be nice to see Nene defending Millsap and hopefully smothering his offense. And Nene flourished against Utah in the first meeting, as the Jazz don't have any fierce interior defense and that led to a 25 point performance from Nene on 10-13 shooting.
Another matchup I'd like to monitor, Al Jefferson vs. Timofey Mozgov. While the other "Big Al" Jefferson sure can score the ball, he put up 19 points on Denver in their first match-up on 8-14 shooting, but he played 30 minutes to Mozgov's 18 minutes. The Russian is coming off his best game of the season against Miami where he added 12 points on 6-10 shooting, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 1 steal. Moz's length gives him an edge of defense and hopefully as this season progresses he'll stay on the floor longer. Mozgov must avoid foul trouble and Karl must ride with the Russian longer. Jefferson will carve up smaller opponents with his array of post moves and Denver has the answer to keep him at bay.
Utah will have issues once again trying to keep Ty Lawson at bay and Danilo Gallinari likely, as well. Lawson and Gallo are emerging as the faces of this Nuggets team. Lawson has done an excellent job of controlling the pace of games and really shined against the Heat in that regard. Gallo is starting to find his shooting touch from the outside going 7-15 from three-point land on this current home stand.
It's a real chore trying to talk about all of the Denver players that could be keys to any game. I have yet to mention Rudy Fernandez, Arron Afflalo, Al Harrington, Corey Brewer, or Andre Miller. Not to mention the games here-or-there where Chris Andersen or Kosta Koufos have been bright spots. The point is, the Nuggets are a good team and they should beat the Jazz this evening. Utah is coming in off a back-to-back George Karl and his players are starting to figure out how to play as a team.
Everyone could see how much the Nuggets wanted to beat the Heat. Karl shortened his bench, when the game was still a contest, to just nine players. Brewer was used in the Birdman energy role for a few minutes and the eight man rotation was the one we should expect to see in big games or as a playoff preview. The Nuggets were "up" for that Heat game, now they must show that they can get "up" for every game.

Let's crush this road trip!
I’m actually excited to see the energy they bring on this trip. It should be a good test for a young team coming off a big win.
Hope you stiffs don’t have too big a Bronco hangover today.

rooting for broncos in NYC
The post season was all gravy
Key is, will Tebow learn to blend his talents with increased ability to complete conventional passes.
I agree, not too upset myself.
But then, I am nowhere near as big a Bronco fan as I am a Nugget fan. Proud of that win vs. Rapelesberger. Want to see how Tebow develops working with Elway in the off season.

Again I want to say for the 2nd game in a row that Nene will be huge
Im guessing 19-11-5 tonight. I think the first game was so early that he barely played. He will be in beast mode tonight. I’m going again tonight. We should get some manual time tonight. Go Nuggets.

The key to energy
One way to get up for every game is to be obsessed like Jorden or Kobie. But that is not this team.
Another would be to give the seldom used pkayers a chance to prove themselves with a few minutes with the goal for them to wake up the rest of the team with their energy. If Denver is really team oriented like they say they are, the rest of the team won’t want to let their team mates down,

so many odd things about this game
Like we can take the season series with a win tonight. I’m honestly shocked the Jazz are only one game back. Lets just have a repeat of the first game and get a manimal sighting
the mozgov who played against miami should be able to contain jefferson
player on the jazz roster who might prove to be the toughest is paul millsap. he has gotten better each season, and even developed some range on his outside shop. good help defender with very quick hands.
they bring favors off the bench who is another good defender who runs well. howard has been playing well for them, but hasn’t found his shot yet.
weakest spot on the jazz is guard play, especially point guard play. lawson should be able to get what he wants whenever he wants it.
The Nugz will get up for this game
I have seen previews saying Utah is on track to be a playoff team that can be dangerous.
The Nuggets should want to quell that myth pretty quickly tonight.

Nuggets should roll
speaking of Utah, or ex-Utah i should say, NJ is trying to trade D-Will because they can’t get D12 in a trade and he won’t stay in NJ with that sorry ass team. Would you stiffs do Ty Lawson and a couple 1st rounders for D-Will straight up if he were to sign an extension in Denver? To me, this is tough because I think Ty can and will be a dominant PG in this league but D-WIll is in a class with CP3 and Derrick Rose that no other PG is really close to touching so it would be hard to pass it up. Thoughts?

My biggest issue with this is not knowing
whether or not D-Will would resign here. Also, I dislike his flopping :)
the deal would be like Melo's
D-Will signs the extension in Jersey and then is shipped to Denver. Or there would have to be some type of contract or agreement that D-Will would sign. That’s the only way he get’s traded in the first place and right now NJ has no leverage because the only team that really wants him is Dallas but they don’t want to trade anyone so unless a team like Denver or even Boston get into the race and start dangling Lawson or Rondo, then D WIll may just leave as a FA after this season. But the only way the deal goes down is if D-Will stays in Denver long term.

I would not add any 1st round picks
At this point they can be traded for each other straight up since Lawson is a budding all-star.
I would also contend Lawson’s speed is do unique that he is in a class of his own.
Hard to say… do they want Andre Miller instead?

nah they wouldn't want Dre
but I agree after looking at their stats and reading a bit I would only offer NJ Ty straight up, and yes Ty’s speed is unique but D-Will is a superstar, surround him with a star wing like Gallo and a dominant big like Nene and you have yourself a very nice 3 headed Monster with still a lot of depth at every position. Williams would be the guy that takes your last shot, no questions asked and is a true leader. It would be hard to pass that deal up, but it would be hard to trade Lawson at the same time.

I think Ty has a better attitude than DWill
And we don’t know his ceiling yet.
Not that I wouldn’t want D will as a Nugget, but Lawson is very efficient. He just doesn’t get the star calls yet.
Once he is an all-star…should be this year. He will get the Tony Parker calls when he goes to the basket.

Lawson is the perfect pg for the type of offense the Nuggets wants to run.
D-Will would be a disaster in Karl’s play fast, don’t worry about plays, trying to run the nuggets in a half court offense.
Not to mention that if he was willing to sign in a place like Denver, he probably would of just stayed with Utah.
Hopefully, the front office has as liitle interest (as in none) in this as I do.

DWill is a great talent
Problem? Will he take up the salary space of 2 – 3 good players? If so, no freakin’ way.
See, the big problem with Knicks getting Melo is not just that (IMO Melo = avg player) but that regardless of your opinion there’s no doubt that Melo sucks up the basketball oxygen of team being a prima donna and eats into salary structure of a few very good players.
There are only 4 – 5 players who are so dominant that they should take up 1/2 of starting unit salary → James, DHoward come to mind. We could argue about aging Kobe, young but still only 5’11" PG CPaul, KDurant who is dominant as shooter but not an all around talent.
No
No. No.
Look, after Melo, why would Denver fans want to go the superstar, max contract route?
Makes zero sense to me. Keep Ty and let him develop. I like his game way more any way.

Sure
Denver could use a legit center who likes to rebound the ball. D12 and D-Will are two different conversations. If we could get Howard without losing too much of the team’s core (Lawson, Gallo, Nene, AAA) why not?
But I don’t think that is possible. Don’t think Howard wants to play here. Don’t think he will come cheap enough. It’d be nice, just don’t see it happening.
"Rollin' in the club / HAPPY MEAL"
Nope, no Lawson trade
Regardless of Williams’s undeniable talent and thus desirability, PG is not where this team needs to improve, especially with its style of play. If the Nuggets need anything, and I’m not certain they do, it’s more interior muscle and finesse.

D-Will is a near-star who benefited with being associated with CP3 when people had like faux debates about who was better despite Paul being the vastly superior player. Deron’s good, but he’s not the superstar a lot of people are making him out to be, so I wouldn’t pay whatever the Nets want.
i keep dancing on my own.
Jazz are getting lucky that the Nets sucks though
But the way they have been drafting, I could still see them being bad for a while.
I have a feeling we are getting a lottery pick from NY in 2014. You see how the Knicks are struggling but will make the playoffs this year.

A game like this is more important than the next 5
because this is the one we expect to win, should win, and a win will give us a 5 game separation from .500 mark
The following 5 games ar either on the road or tough. I love our team but we could lose a few here. So lets win this one and get that road trip out of the way and we’re good.
Road trip will be hard

Philly
Is going to be tough. That team is seriously one of the biggest surprises right now. Playing at a great offensive pace and also playing top-tier defense and getting it all done without a single star.
Sound familiar?
Mind, I’m a Bulls fan in the east, but Philly’s now my team in the Atlantic. Sorry, Knicks!
"Rollin' in the club / HAPPY MEAL"
I really like the way the Sixers are playing too
North Carolina was the first place in the U.S. that gold was discovered.
David Thompson then moved to Denver and played for the Nuggets.
Sixers schedule has been, uh, light, to say the very least
Take a look. They’ve beaten exactly one team with a winning record. Four of their wins are against the WIZARDS. I’ve been impressed with what Collins has done since way last season, but I remain far from convinced they’ll even come close to a top-four seed this year.

by LongWindedHank on Jan 15, 2012 3:11 PM MST up reply actions
All of this is true
I see them getting a 5 or 6 seed and potentially getting out of the first round. Miami and Chicago are really the only scary teams in the east.
I still say the Nuggets lose vs. the Sixers. We are playing there the second night of a back-to-back and traveling east, never an ideal scenario.
As always, I’d love to be wrong.
"Rollin' in the club / HAPPY MEAL"
I never make predictions
But sure, we could easily lose that game. Must agree about the East being between Heat and Bulls. Out here it’s more like the Thunder and several teams in the second tier. Here’s hoping that changes due to the Nuggets’ killer play as the season progresses.

As far as the west and the Nuggets...
I stand by my preseason predictions: the west is too deep for the Nuggets to make a lot of noise in the regular season, but I fully expect them to dominate in the postseason, getting in with a four seed, as OKC takes the division.
And predictions are fun to make. What do you have against fun?

Nah, I love me some fun and have a ton of it, though I know I come off as quite the curmudgeon here much of the time. I guess I think disagreement is where conversation really begins. It’s how we learn about ourselves, each other and most everything out yonder in the world.
As for predictions specifically, I find sports (and most other phenomena) to have so many damn variables. I’m actually thrilled that outcomes are so tough to predict. Makes it fascinating (fun!) to actually watch the process in question. That’s not to say we can’t be fairly certain the host Bulls will whip the Suns Tuesday night, but aren’t we significantly less certain they’ll beat the Grizz in Memphis tomorrow?

Good night people!! Tomorrow all nuggets fans must go to see the game against Jazz. We need ur support!! U are the 6th man!!
On Mozgov
I was and am a big supporter of him. His shooting against Miami was so impressive in part because of how fluid, even silky, it looked. That left handed little hook was sweet.
Moz will never, ever be the talent that a DHoward is but DHoward would kill to have the touch and fluidity that Moz shows when he shoots and from foul line.
Still the made shots are not the big thing. Shots will come and go.
What we need is for Moz to be aggressive, rebound hard, go for blocks, make opponents uncomfortable in the lane.
Its OK for Moz to foul but the fouls, as Scott Hastings suggested, have to be on message plays → going for offensive rebounds, blocking drives not what Moz does too often → trying to take a charge from a 190 lb guard, reaching in when his man shoots.

Utah looked like a horrid lottery team last we played them...
Really surprised they got it together. Benching Favors must have been the ticket.
Maya: "What are your first impressions of Denver?"
Mozgov: "I must break you..."
Well
Millsap was coming back from an injury. I don’t think they planned on starting Favors for long.
And while Utah’s talent level hasn’t really changed since Denver romped them in the home opener, their confidence level is up. and that will make them a more formidable foe tonight.
Besides, Denver still needs to prove that they can it up for teams that aren’t the Heat, Mavericks, Lakers, etc. Denver should win, but, you know… That’s why they play the game.

Beat the Jazz! (And this ingrate wanted the Heat beaten by 25)
Here’s hoping the Nuggets don’t come out flat tonight. Rudy’s tweet cited above shows they’re aware that could easily happen, and they’re on it!
Why did the Nuggets go into the third quarter against the Heat up by only five? Because they didn’t continue to exploit Miami’s weakness at the center position. Mozgov didn’t just wake up on the right side of the bed Friday morning and suddenly become Mr. Silky. Nope, he scored the first six points of this game, along with a couple of sweet shots later, because the Heat have no good answer to a 7-footer who can shoot.
Sure, we love it that Moz had some success and got more minutes, but he didn’t get nearly enough. Go with what’s working! Run ‘em to death when you can (yeah, we did), and get the ball inside to your dominant big man when you can’t! POUND THOSE FUCKERS! Open up a lead and then make it BIGGER!
We had another problem early on: Nene wasn’t succeeding inside, and he turned into the crybaby complainer he tends to be, which ALWAYS takes him out of the game. If there’s a strategic way to work the officials, by all means have at it. But Nene’s way is NOT the way. Yeah, later on after the Heat were already whipped into submission, Nene looked dominant. Color me far from convinced. Let’s see it right up front while the other team is still bringing their A-game.
And Ty Lawson is a monster. If he can change his much-too-sweet demeanor and develop a killer instinct, the Nuggets will wreak havoc in this league. And did Stiffs notice how many open treys Lawson passed up? I was thrilled to see him head down the lane to make things happen, but he can also bomb from long range, and he should take those shots when they’re given to him.
Sorry to look at the clouds rather than the silver lining.

Is the Nuggets are playing well enough that you can expect better things.

What do Basketball recruits look for when getting recruited by CU-Boulder? Is it the fact that Marijuana is pretty much encouraged? Or is there something else?

Atheist for Tim Tebow!
I don't think they do

Isn't marijuana use against NCAA rules?
I mean, I know it is a popular activity in Boulder and Colorado. But I’m sure the athletes mostly abstain.
"Rollin' in the club / HAPPY MEAL"
if the basketball players at Georgetown are any indication
they don’t abstain from that or drinking really. Some do. But the ones who went overboard were the ones who did not perform as well.

This is poor
I know Utah’s a fairly strong team, but losing this game at home with a day’s rest (and Utah on a road b2b) – IN DENVER – is almost as unacceptable as losing to the Hornets last Monday.
Big-time mixed bag lately, these Nuggets.
This team is still haunted by the 2010 playoffs

yeah, but this is a screwy year
Lakers lost to the Kings, Blazers got boatraced by the Suns, etc… it’s a sucky result but not the end of the world.
i keep dancing on my own.
It’s not. But it’s frustrating because it could have been avoided if George Karl would remove his head from his posterior and realize that his small ball lineup is not the be all end all of basketball and often causes lots of problems.
The team is getting dominated on the glass and Milsap is abusing the SF’s Karl is throwing at them. There are two 7 footers on the bench. Does Karl put them int? Of course, not. I think he’d rather lose with his small lineup than win with bigs. And that’s pathetic.

This is what I'm talking about
Ugh.
I hate this shit. I’d rather lose to the Heat than get beat by the Jazz at home in a divisional game.
Utah played last night. They are missing two rotation players.
What’s Denver’s excuse tonight? Was Millsap’s game an aberration? Denver is not mentally tough. A great way to stay under the radar going into the playoffs is to underperform during the regular season.
Mission accomplished.
"Rollin' in the club / HAPPY MEAL"
This team just has Denver's number.
For whatever reason.
"Fuck this shit. Is this fucking season over yet? It is? Jesus H. motherfucking Christ on a stick! Get Nick Holt on the phone NOW! I don't buy it.
I think Denver just struggles to take teams seriously if they aren’t the Heat or the Lakers or the defending champion Mavericks. It is inexcusable and the fault is entirely on the coaching staff.
"Rollin' in the club / HAPPY MEAL"
I cannot disagree with this comment more.

yeah
the Nuggets did boatrace this same team on the second night of the season, played pretty good road games against the Blazers and Spurs, etc…
i keep dancing on my own.
What
You think it is just another fluke game?
You guys are crazy if you think Denver, with all its talent, is just unlucky somehow.
"Rollin' in the club / HAPPY MEAL"
go follow another ~50 win team
you’ll see similarly headscratching losses. It’s not unique to Denver. Still super, super frustrating.
i keep dancing on my own.
yeah, but you know what I'm saying
pick another team and watch a game a week on LP, see how you think their prep compares, otherwise it’s unfair to criticize Karl and the Nuggets staff alone for being unprepared.
i keep dancing on my own.
Sorry
I thought you were telling me to bugger off.
Still, I think there is a pattern here. I stand by my angry words.
"Rollin' in the club / HAPPY MEAL"
So it's either unlucky or unprepared? Nothing in between?
I’m pretty sure it’s a matter of bad play, shots not dropping, players being hurt, lots of things….

What does that have to do
with his unwillingness to play his bigs when his small lineups are getting run? Moz and Koufus and Manimal sure aren’t hurt. Yet Bird tweaks his knee and gets sent right back out there, my complaint is entirely about not utilizing the size on this roster. And Dre’s playing time, he has looked terrible for over a week now.

It’s George Karl’s fault. He is apparently completely oblivious the concept of match ups. And he lacks the humility to admit his idiotic small ball lineup doesn’t work all the time. One big completely dominated the Nuggets. There are two seven footers on the bench that could have made his life extremely difficult. But that would require Karl to be dynamic in his coaching which I don’t think he’s capable of.
Not at all

It wasn’t cockiness, it was Karl putting together horrible lineups that gave the Jazz advantages and sticking with them despite the obvious idiocy of them.

strange he got so few touches in the second half though he was one of the main FT perps.

It's hard to say. But it's possible.
I’ve been a big skeptic of Rudy but he does play some pesky defense and maybe his passing abilities are needed.

Rudy is a big help when his shot is falling

More coincidence
But he would have helped a lot. There is truth to the idea that injuries did not help Denver’s cause tonight. Still, I think that is a wash since Utah was similarly injured.

See
I never expected Denver to be super awesome when playing in the same division as Portland and OKC.
But losing at home to the Jazz? To the Hornets? I don’t doubt the talent of the Nuggets. We all saw what they can do against the Heat.
My gripe is their mental toughness in these slog games in the middle of the season. Still, I think in the playoffs they will be fine.

Rudy might have helped
He’s got an Achilles strain. That’s not a quick heal injury. Tend to doubt George would give Julyan Stone any crunchtime minutes. So that means Dre is gonna have to step up if Rudy needs time.
This was a really bad game for Ronald McDunkald

Nuggets let a team hang around and get comfortable
We had no answer for Milsap in the 4th quarter, couldn’t make any FTs, and just played as a bunch of individuals. The nice thing about long road trips is, all they have to focus on this playing basketball and it starts Tuesday at Milwaukee! Let’s see what happens
Go Nuggets!
Faried takes over for KMart
Hamilton will be better JR Smith
Marketing Director of the Mozgov Militia!
i'm sorry, but this loss IS huge! it is very telling of a systemic problem. let me explain.
the nuggets spent their wad in that miami game and played like a tired team tonight (i suspect because karls ego wouldn’t allow them to have a day of rest and instead put them through a rough practice so he could make it about himself and teach).
i think g.k. has been out coached in nearly every game this year. his rotations are atrocious!
it annoys me to no end that he goes with “his guys” (andre, birdman, rudy and al) for extended minutes, when it is apparent from the start they didn’t bring it on a given night, rather than giving guys like kufos, faried, mozgov, brewer, or carrol more minutes if for no oher reason than to find out if he can find lightning in a bottle on said night.
al has been great for the most part but he wanted no part of the ball today. if AL doesnt want the ball something is wrong and he needs to be replaced with someone who gives us some defense at least.
dre and galo were just going through the motions tonight and yet no faried or kufos who are both energy guys.
the only times we stopped milsap and jefferson were with mozgov’s length in the game but yet, no sign of him when the two of them started taking the lead and running with it.
al harrington is a fucking s.f. karl! NOT a center!
he is too stubborn to utilize what is our greatest strength. depth!
it is hard for me to say this cause on teams with less depth i have always thought karl was a top tier coach, but his stubbornness and ego do not allow him to utilize this teams strength, and kroenke is not about to fire him so i see another first round playoff exit i’m affraid unLESS we can get some fortunate injuries (and no i am not wishing injury on anyone, just saying it might not be bad for our team honestly) to say, oh i dunno. birdman. perhaps andre for a stretch (not a long one but enough to get brewer the minutes he has earned).
it was clear to me at the miami game during timeouts and on the court that andre and bird were dis satisfied with their roles despite the fact that they are playing more than they should be already. may be a good time for some addition by subtraction if we can find a trade partner or two.

Meh
Our players are fine. The lineups are consistently putting us at a disadvantage. Mozzie should have been on Jefferson in the 4th with Nene on Happy Feet Milsap. Harrington has played great this season, but asking him to guard a forward with the moves of Justin Timberlake is no bueno.
by paidinfull87 on Jan 15, 2012 9:07 PM MST up reply actions
All of the bad match ups and rotations
Wouldn’t be an issue if Denver played with the same killer instinct we saw on Friday. They didn’t.
And when you don’t jump out on a team, even a bad team like the Hornets or an average one like the Jazz can take advantage and start to exploit these weaknesses detailed above.
:sigh:
"Rollin' in the club / HAPPY MEAL"
A bad lineup
can neutralized momentum. That’s what happened last game against the Heat in their 2nd quarter run. Tonight, Mozzie was playing great and was carrying the team inside on defense AND offense in the third. After, he didn’t even check in. That’s just ridiculous.

Nene
was playing Milsap pretty well in the third and forcing him off the left block because Mozzie was on Jefferson coming over for help. Mozzie recovered pretty quickly after help too.

milsap did all of his damage against smaller players
like the very disinterested al harrington. you can’t tell me that having nene on him more and having mozgov or kufos or yes faried on jefferson would have been better than galo and al.

He was
straight up lit by Warrick in both games in the preseason. He’s not ready to guard guys at this level, and throwing him to Milsap would be an awful idea.

by Patrick KB. Nugget on Jan 15, 2012 9:33 PM MST up reply actions
every single article i have read has talked about what a fantastic athlete/rebounder/defender he is.
surely you haven’t formed the opinion that he can’t d up based on a couple of preseason games when he had been with the team for 5 days.
by Patrick KB. Nugget on Jan 15, 2012 9:35 PM MST up reply actions
you clearly
didn’t see those games. You can list all the excuses you want but he looked BAD. end of story. He is clearly a gifted rebounder. I personally would have sent him out there today instead of seeing Al or Gallo get lit up over and over in post mismatches, and he probably would have done better. But then again, he was destroyed by Warrick. Hakim Warrick.
i ACTUALLY watched BOTH games, and you CLEARLY missed the point
that he is a rookie that had been on the team for 5 DAMNED DAYS at the time. you expect him to know our defensive rotations?
hakim warrick has never passed in his life for one thing so he can put up big numbers if his shot is going but you know absolutely zilch about how complex defense in the nba is if you are stating outright that faried is not at THIS point ready to at least contribute defensively based on what you saw in those “pretend” games.

Something is wrong w this team
Something needs to occur so they win the home games they should
Tonight is why we will be a road playoff team
George Karl did suck once again, but
What about AAA? I’m sorry but I am fed up with the crappy play that is Arron Afflalo right now. 16 points and 8 rebounds? Woohoo. What about clumsy drives, missing wide open, clutch threes, turning the ball over and not making free throws. Same goes to Nene, but at least Nene has show some consistency. Wish Arron would have cared about his game a little more than his contract.
I don’t mind Lawson going Westbrook Jr. tonight because I am getting annoyed with Gallo. Gallo is hitting threes, Gallo is getting calls, when everyone else is stinking it up and we need a spark, why is Gallo passing the ball away? Irritating.
Why are we playing small when we are being eaten alive in the paint and outrebounded? This game gave me flashes of the OKC series all over again – bad free throw shooting and a lack of rebound.
Play Faried, Kosta, and/or Mozgov. Stop playing Al and Gallo at 4 unless we are playing another run and gun team.
When that article dropped, so did Andre. What the hell happened in the last week and a half?
DenverStiffs > MileHighReport
Those 2
wide open threes AAA missed were huge letdowns. But I really don’t think he’s playing poorly because he’s maxin after his contract. I think he’s trying to do more to live up to it and overthinking. At least I hope. I really wish he gets back to his pre-hamstring injury form last year that he got against the Clippers. He wasn’t the same when he came back against OKC. Before that he was looking like a straight baller.

I agree on AAA.
He blows half his drives to the hoop and REFUSES to pass. Seeing that break with Moz right behind him where he goes for the contested layup rather than feed the Russian for a dunk made me sick to my stomach. WTF, dude? You’re not a star and you’re not making star money. Stop trying to be one! He was my favorite Nugget last year, but he’s really testing my patience.

to me this seemed like a classic trap game
i am just as pissed as everyone else at the lack of playing time for all of our bigs and wish i could beat GK over the head with a poster of Moz, K2, and Manimal until he played them. but, like several people have said, we thought we were hot stuff after beating the Heat and didn’t come out prepared. and, as much as it hurts to say, the jazz are better than a lot of people, including me, thought they would be.
bird needs to move to the end of the bench, for good. or traded to the clippers. or to the d league. or something. dre needs to be traded. since the article he’s looked sad sack and pathetic. gallo’s ankle needs to get better and soon. aaa needs to stop trying so hard to live up to his contract. he needs to play good defense and spot up 3’s and an occasional drive. if he’s dribbling, he’s probably doing something wrong.
we have a big road trip coming up against 1 good team (76ers) and the rest are fairly scrub-ish. we really, really need a 4-1 or at the very least 3-2 record on this trip against teams that they really should beat. glad i didnt have to watch it and just followed it online. release the manimal and the great white centers
I agree with everything you say here for the most part
It does look like Afflalo is trying to ‘live up to his contract’ but I think he will find his groove. I think he is stuck between desire for improvement, building up conditioning, and getting in a rhythm. Eventually things will click for him.
I feel like 3-2 is a pretty safe assumption. 4-1 would be nice, but I’m questioning this team’s consistency.
by Missing Lynx on Jan 15, 2012 11:42 PM MST up reply actions
My thoughts
Karl doesn’t seem to trust our big’s very much. He needs to start to, or trade for someone that he does trust. Birdman is next to worthless right now. He gets some blocks and dunks, but is terrible defensively and more then that, gets out-muscled for rebounds frequently.
I know he’s a rookie, but he should play Faried some minutes. He would have really helped tonight with rebounding, and defense inside.
Afflalo’s and Nene’s play is still connected to rust for me. Think they’ll both improve as the season goes on so I’m not that worried. Gallo needs to be more assertive. Bad game for Ty as far as missed layups and the like. But it wasn’t terrible by any stretch. Teammates didn’t help him out much for the most part.
Most importantly, this two pg crap has got to stop. Andre killed our offense tonight. He’s got to push the offense to run. Wouldn’t be surprised if he was traded honestly, as it seems his play has really declined since that article was posted about him not being happy being a backup.
It just hurts the development of Ty Lawson. He needs to be the PG when he’s out there on the floor. I’d much rather get 35 minutes of Ty being the point, then 25 minutes of him being the point and 10 minutes of him being the SG.
