Golden Nuggets: Guess who's back on Twitter? J.R. Smith!

Who wants some exciting NBA news?!? Army of Nugs? NugNugz? InboundingLobPass? TyLawesome? Sgiustra? Any other Stiffs? Well, the lockout isn't over, the Nuggets haven't signed anyone, but J.R. Smith is back on Twitter! Who wouldn't want to follow the biggest name in Chinese basketball? I hit "follow" almost immediately! What did Swish get for his 26th birthday? Follow the jump to find out ... and just what is George Karl and his staff doing down at Pepsi Center today - makes me curious.

Star-divide

Yes, that's right - J.R. Smith is back on Twitter. This time he's using the handle: 1anonlyJRSmith - the only question, how long will this account last? Swish has a serious love/hate relationship with Twitter and it seems like when he starts to get "hated on" too much that his page goes away. Hopefully he'll be around for awhile. Some recent Tweets of interest:

J.R. Smith's 26th birthday present picture of his new whip

J.R. Smith posted about being back in Denver on Sept. 18th.

Hopefully the latest star of the Chinese Basketball League will stick around the interwebs long enough for us to get a taste of what his life is like overseas. It'd also be nice if he decided to just stay in Denver for a long while and wait this lockout out.

Now you're probably asking yourself - Nate, what else is going on?

Well, Nuggets legendary trainer Steve Hess has been staying busy training various folks at gyms like Forza Fitness in Denver, CO.

George Karl and his staff are holding a clinic at Pepsi Center today for what looks to be college coaches as Tom Abatemarco and Rodney Billups (yes, Chauncey Billups' younger brother), both on the staff at the University of Colorado, tweeted about it.

And coming Sunday, Sept. 25th, SI.com will be live streaming an exhibition game between "Team Melo" vs. "Team Philly" at Palestra in Pennsylvania aka the Cathedral of College Basketball. I'm not sure yet who will be making up the rosters, but news on that should be coming as the week progresses.

Labor talks inch forward as negotiations enter critical week - David Aldridge, NBA.com
A snippet, "Stern and deputy commissioner Adam Silver said after the Board of Governors meeting in Dallas that owners remained unified behind a hard cap system, though there could be some differences in the specifics individual owners would seek. But the issue of revenue sharing has produced greater disagreements between owners. The union believes -- hopes? -- that those disagreements widen into fissures that will force groups of owners more willing to make a deal to the forefront."

Q&A: NBA players' union executive director Billy Hunter - Lance Pugmire, LA Times
A snippet, "Player unity, then, is a crucial element of avoiding a salary free fall. After the session with players — who have already agreed to trim their share of basketball-related income from 57% to 53% — Hunter declared, "We dispelled the notion that the players aren't together.""

Knicks' rookie Shumpert making an impact - Alan Hahn, Newsday
A snippet, "And perhaps the most important result of Shumpert's experience at Impact will come this week, when Chauncey Billups arrives to join the rookie for a few games. The two could find themselves spending a lot of time together this season in the Knicks' backcourt."

Worthy Target: Basketball's Role in NCAA Conference Realignment - Alicia Jessop, Ruling Sports
A snippet, "While much has been mentioned throughout the course of the past month’s conference realignment frenzy about the role of television contracts and automatic qualification in an institution’s decision as to which conference to land in, one important source of conference income has been left out of the conversation:  The NCAA Basketball Fund."

2Day's 2 Cents: Adelman and Kahn, together again with Wolves - Michael Rand, Minnesota Star Tribune
Pretty funny article detailing the history of new Minnesota Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman and Minny GM David Kahn. Adelman was the coach of the Blazers back when Kahn was writing about that team as a member of the media. Check it out!

if the Twolves are smart

they’ll take any and all remaining power out of Khan’s hands. They’re a bad team yes, but Khan has single-handedly made them a laughing-stock as well.

by NugNugz on Sep 19, 2011 1:35 PM MDT reply actions

They have a little talent now too – perfect time to rip the power from Kahn, which supposedly is happening as Bill Simmons noted recently that Adelman will not be reporting to Kahn for any reason.

by Nate Timmons on Sep 19, 2011 1:42 PM MDT up reply actions

nor should he

Kahn has added some interesting pieces. I think getting Beasley for 2 2nd round picks was such a low risk-high reward gamble, akin to the year we traded for JR. Sure enough Beasley started the year off strong before succumbing to some ankle injuries down the road. I don’t know if he’ll ever live up to being the 2nd overall pick or if he’ll ever mature, but it was a good gamble nonetheless. The problem with Kahn is he takes on all these reclamation projects because if one pans out he can call himself a genius. but aside from the Beasley gamble, everything else he’s done has been borderline foolish. They could have had a backcourt of Steph Curry/Brandon Jennings and Demar Derozan instead they picked a guy that hasn’t been in the league yet and is seemingly joining now because he’s getting whipped in EuroLeague and a guy who, based on his performance since being in the league, could very well find himself out of it in another 4 years. Foolish. Thank god he gave us Ty Lawson.

um yea

I’d take Rubio over Lawson any day. At least Rubio has the potential to be a star, Lawson has the potential to be a slightly taller Boykins, with somehow even worse defense.

Rubio does have potential to be a star

I don’t disagree with that. But his last season in the Euroleague coupled with his underwhelming show in the tournament certainly is alarming. I’m going to wait to see what he does in the NBA before I say I’d take him over Lawson at this point.

I think your assessment of Ty Lawson is way off. Boykins is a shooting guard stuck in Muggsy Bogues’s body. Ty Lawson is a true point guard.

You're out of your mind

Rubio is awful. He is so bad that he was coming off the bench on the Barcelona team. He can’t finish at the rim, and he can’t shoot. Do you think Jose Calderon is good? When Rubio comes off the bench for Calderon, the Spanish team gets significantly worse. In one game int he Euro basket summer tournament, Rubio had 0 points 2 assists and 5 turnovers. In fact his euro basket high was 5 points. This kid was a lottery pick because of a lot of hype and will be out of the league sooner than you think.

dude

he’s 21. think before you post.

I will agree that he has potential.

But he’s awful now.

and Johnny Flynn is 22...

Runio had potential 3 years ago when he was drafted and he’s gone backwards in the last 2 years

When I first saw a picture of JR and the words guess who's back

I almost went bat shit crazy. Alas, reality set in, and I really don’t want an NBA season for 2011-2012 if I won’t be able to see JR dominating.
I need to figure out how to stream CBA to see JR become the Kobe Bryant of China.
Who is with me Ness? Armyofnugs? Any other JR fans I don’t know about (I feel like I have seen way more JR haters than fans on this site).

Gotta love the haterz. Keep that hate a comin'

I like J.R. Smith’s game and was really disappointed to learn he’d be ballin’ in China this season. But, like someone pointed out, Bonzi Wells had a terrible experience over there and was bounced or left his team quickly. If the NBA comes back, I wouldn’t be surprised to see J.R. figure out a way to get Stateside once again and I’d love to see him back in Denver – as crazy as it may seem, don’t rule out a return to the Nuggets for J.R. at some point.

I’m thinking there’s a good chance he ends up with an “injury” and is sent home….

but there’s also a good chance there won’t be a season too….

I`ll find some links for you stiffs when CBA begin.

As a Chinese it`s easy for me, but you must get up very early in the moring.

So who wants to take bets on...

How long it takes JR to inadvertently offend thousands of Chinese people by tweeting the wrong thing?? Two weeks… two months…. two days? Haha

by InboundingLobPass on Sep 19, 2011 3:54 PM MDT via mobile reply actions

JR's run in China will be about as popular as a Georgetown goodwill tour...

…just kidding.

That G’town fight wasn’t on the Hoyas. The Chinese players overreacted.

Thanks buddy!

I was the first person you named as a JR fan, so I guess I am always first on your mind?

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
