The book is out on Denver (Game 4 recap)

Gyi0060271764_medium_mediumThe Utah Jazz have drawn up the blueprint on how to beat the Denver Nuggets and they once again executed it taking a commanding 3-1 series lead. The depleted Jazz are now just one win away from eliminating the Nuggets from the first round of the 2010 playoffs ... can you feel it?

Star-divide

Through four games in this series the one clear thing ... the Utah Jazz are kicking the Nuggets' asses. They say the better team often wins a seven game series and the Utah Jazz are a better team than the Denver Nuggets. You know things are bad when Scott Hastings is glowing about the opposition in the games closing minutes as Utah won tonight's game 117-106.

You can argue until you are powder blue in the face about which team has more talent, but clearly the better team is the Jazz. Let us count the ways ...

1. ) Coaching: It all starts right here. The Jazz in Game 1 played more of the Utah Jazz style we are used to ... setting up designed plays on offense via their point guard that take a little time to develop and looking for the open shooter. Well, after losing Game 1 the Jazz changed their style. My buddy Rich says the Jazz adopted the Phoenix Suns offense against Denver, meaning they are getting quick offensive possessions. While I was telling him that Deron Williams is just utilizing what lots of point guards do in small stretches versus Denver ... get out in transition and attack the basket. Kudos to Jerry Sloan for exploiting Denver in many ways and putting his team in the best position to win every game.

For Denver ... well, without George Karl the Nuggets are obviously lost. Again, if I'm Karl I laugh at the measly one-year extension that Denver tendered to him and he previously signed. Karl never should have signed that deal because if he was a free agent after this season he could hold out for a King's Ransom from Silent Stan Kroenke as acting coach Adrian Dantley has made Karl look vital.

Dantley couldn't figure out that Ty Lawson is an asset, had no clue when or how to motivate his team as Denver got basically worse in every game this series and Dantley was hopeless getting the officials to adjust to his team's style or getting his team to adjust to the refs style (not totally sure how that bullshit works and I'm not sure why the Nuggets can't figure out how not to foul and complain when they don't get calls they want).

2.) Competing: Where is Denver's competitive fire? In Games 3 and 4 the Nuggets were resigned to letting the Jazz kick their ass. I know that if I'm getting smoked on the basketball court I'm going to fight with all I have to get back into the game. The Jazz have developed a swagger and certain cockiness as the series has progress that they will impose their will on the Nuggets and it happened again tonight right when Denver held a lead ... with the score 18-13 Denver the Jazz stole momentum and went on a 18-7 run to close the first quarter and never looked back. The Nuggets on the flipside have turned into a lifeless bunch that let the Jazz make predictable runs and let themselves get run down, run over and run right out of Utah.

Last season we saw Denver develop the swagger and the cockiness winning teams have, but this post-season we have not seen the same body language and chemistry from the Nuggets that we did last season. The Jazz seem to enjoy playing together and I don't think these Nuggets do. This just isn't the same team from even earlier this season. Tonight the Jazz just jumped out to 10 and 20 point leads without Denver even really flinching ... as if they are as resigned as I am to their losing ways.

In the fourth quarter tonight the Nuggets were down 86-71. The Nuggets put up a bit of a fight, but they had to have everything go absolutely perfect to overcome that 15 point deficit. You have to care for a full 48 minutes and the Nuggets did not.

3.) Defense: Can you name the Jazz's best shot blocker? Neither can I and you know why ... BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE A SINGLE SHOT BLOCKER! The Nuggets have had to work for most of their shots in this series and they had to work hard for open shots tonight, but even when they got good looks tonight they didn't convert (blah!).

The Nuggets did a poor job tonight of getting to the rim, not traveling once they got there or committing some other violation. On the flip side ... I think I could take the rock coast-to-coast on the Nuggets. We heard the Lakers were too big for the Nuggets ... so what are the Jazz? Too small for the Nuggets? Carlos Boozer, Paul Millsap, CJ Miles and even Wesley Matthews looked like the bizarro world science project love childs of Wilt Chamberlain and Moses Malone tonight and throughout the series. None of those players listed are taller than 6'8'' (I don't care what Boozer and Millsap are listed at). The Nuggets let the Jazz turn the game and the series into a damn layup line for anyone willing to attack the rim. So the Lakers bigs are too big and the Jazz "bigs" have more desire.

I remember last season when teams drove on the Nuggets, the team sent a message with some hard fouls that the paint was Denver's territory and if they dared to enter they'd pay the price. In this series, I wouldn't be concerned at all to have my buddy let his 2-year-old daughter stand in the paint during a play ... the only concern, a Jazz foot landing on her after yet another lay in.

Not sure whether to put this under coaching or defense, but how many points could Deron Williams score if he just went coast-to-coast on every possession ... 100, 200? Where is the adjustment to Williams' transition bullrush? I got pretty sick of watching it, but either the coaching staff is clueless on how to stop it or the players just refuse to use any type of hustle in transition ... maybe it's a combo of both. As I've mentioned before ... Russell Westbrook kills Denver in transition, but he doesn't stay consistent ... Williams has stolen that page out of Westbrook's book and it's KILLING the Nuggets.

4.) Offense: This sort of ties into the above point, but Denver's shooting tonight was just awful. Denver found success when they drove the lane, but they just didn't do enough of what was needed to win the game. Passing on the road continues to be taboo for the Nuggets and if you are asking why Denver draws so many offensive fouls it's because they refuse to share the damn ball and too many dribbles leaves you exposed to charges and costly turnovers.

Carmelo Anthony put up 19 first half points and looked like the only guy who cared about playing hard and actually winning in the first half, but his one-man show was just not enough. Ty Lawson played a bulk of early fourth quarter minutes and showed once again he is very effective, but until he develops a deadly outside shot his game is a touch limited. Lawson 's defender often sags off on him and if he can start dropping shots in their face then his game will grow by leaps and bounds a la Tony Parker.

The Jazz are just too much and have Denver's number.

As tonight's game came down the streatch the Nuggets were able to cut the lead to 98-90 and they drew a touch of hope, but again with such a poor during the game ... having to overcome your mistakes is just too much. Also, Utah just need a bad possession here or there and again their huge lead would be safe. A K-Mart missed put-back dunk and a Billups foul on Williams allowed what could have become a 6-point game or less to quicly turn back into a double-digit lead.

Where do the Nuggets go from here? Last season when the Lakers turned the series around the Nuggets came home to Denver and got their asses handed to them on their home floor and the series was over. What can we expect from the Nuggets down 1-3? I said in the preview that this game would show us Denver's heart. I don't see much heart from this team and I don't see much desire or any sense of urgency to win.

I'm not expecting a miracle comeback from the Nuggets and it's looking like my 5 game series prediction could very well come true, but unfortunately I picked the wrong team to come out and dominate this series.

Dantley's dream is dead

He will never coach the Utah Jazz. The way we are being outclassed and out-executed this series is appalling. If you just watched his press conference, it’s all over his face – AD is defeated. It’s over for him. Those hopes and dreams of being a great head coached crushed in front of a worldwide audience

The End of an "Era"

How embarrasing, how shameful…this was a team faced with some serious adversity this year and, rather than rise above it, this team has fallen apart. It’s no wonder George Karl has such a hard time watching this team from his home while recovering from a grave illness.

This looks very similar to the team that sucked in the playoffs during Anthony’s first years in the league. And, unfortunately for Anthony and many fans of this team over the past few years, it’s going to be time to shake some shit up after this series ends in the coming week.

Cmon, it wasnt the refs. The Nuggs just got outplayed. How is 13 assists the refs fault?

by ACEIII on Apr 25, 2010 10:56 PM MDT up reply actions

Yes, I know the Nuggets did not play well

But the refereeing was, in my opinion anyway, very poor. Poor enough to sway the outcome of the game. I get that I’m in the minority, and I know the Nuggets shouldnt’ve needed the refs’ help or anything, but what I saw was an unfairly reffed game, and I’m disappointed by that.

by Uh on Apr 25, 2010 10:58 PM MDT up reply actions

I agree, there were a few calls that swayed the home team's way, but that's always the case when you're at home.

Blaming the refs for this loss and the loss in Game 3 is a fan’s way of avoiding actually coming to grips with the real problems with this team.

Blame something else every time and you’ll never get to the root of the ACTUAL porblem.

"Remember kids......... petty and cheap shot-ish doesn't make you a true fan, it just makes you petty and cheap shot-ish."

by Themanthemyththelegend on Apr 25, 2010 11:05 PM MDT up reply actions

There were several that I saw

In any case, I never said Game 3 was a result of the refs. That was just poor play by everyone involved (on the Denver side, anyhow).

But like I said, I am aware that the non-Melo non-Blur Nuggets played very poorly today. There was no passing, the defense was sketchy at best. I understand the problems with this team, and I’ve come to accept them. I can’t do anything about that as a fan. I do expect, however, that the refs call a fair game. In Game 2, the Nugs were screwed over. Now in Game 4, the Nugs were screwed over.

I’m not putting all the blame on the refereeing, as I mentioned. If the five or six bad calls were reversed, we could be talking about a very different outcome.

by Uh on Apr 25, 2010 11:13 PM MDT up reply actions

So you're not putting the blame on the refereeing, yet you're implying that if 5 or 6 "bad calls" would have been called the way YOU would have liked, the outcome would have been different?

Why try to hide feelings with a veil?

The refs are going to be blamed for this loss, just like in Game 2 and the real issues with this team (lack of passion, lack of focus and horrible shooting at key points in the game and a total disregard of defense) are going to be glossed over for another season and Nuggets fans will still be able to cheer for “Birdman”, “JR Swish”, “K-Mart” and another season of unfulfilled promise.

This team SHOULD be better and it’s not and it’s the TEAM’S fault, regardless of GK or AD running the ship.

No, I do understand. It's a HUGE blow to the team. Not having your head coach is a big deal.

But I don’t understand how putting this on AD makes any sense.

This team has been making the same mistakes, taking the same ill-advised shots and lack of interest in defense since the WCF’s last season.

Like I wrote before, this team should have played with a chip on it’s shoulder all season after getting bounced from a WCF’s they felt they should have won and instead the meandered through the season and backed in to the division title and it didn’t matter who was coaching during it.

I think alot can be said about the absence of GK

Baiting, antagonizing, and acting superior. Part of it is bad timing, and part of it is bad wording. It’s clear that you don’t have “trolling” intentions, but a lot of what you say comes out that way.

I can’t help you see past your anger at your team’s loss tonight friend.

Sorry, but showing up when the Nuggets are down 15, then telling us about how our team is a waste and sucks does not constitute “help” in my mind. You might mean well, but it sure doesn’t feel like it.

Showing up? I was on here during the game thread! I've been here numerous times throught the season!

Because the only reason I’m catching ANY kind of flak by giving my opinion is because of that. I’m from LA. I love the Lakers.

However, I love the GAME. I study the GAME. And I try not to watch any of it with “whatever-colored glasses” or “drink whatever-colored kool-aid”.

I'd like to end this little subthread

It’s gone on way too long, and I should have shut up a long time ago. For that I apologize.

But I do think it would be helpful if you were a little less consistently argumentative on here. For one thing, you didn’t really make a lot of basketball arguments. You did include some in a parenthetical list, but oftentimes you were saying that I was trying to “hide my feelings with a veil” and that I ought to “grow up” and various meta arguments.

We’re here to discuss the game, not to argue about pointless things like this.

About making others feel welcome: again, I’m not exactly the best person even when I’m not upset with the Nuggets. I don’t want you to think Denver Stiffs is a place where the posters are hostile toward Laker fans…we aren’t, in general. Guys like Marty Mart, for instance, are Lakers fans who come here to discuss basketball (and not right after a Nuggets blowout.) They rarely have a problem here.

What can I say? It’s the Internet. It’s hard to tell when you’re being a troll and when you’re expressing honest opinions at times. That’s why timing and wording matter.

And you don’t need to comment right away on the game thread just to prove a point. But I do think showing up in the midst of a blowout is kind of degrading to us fans. Other teams’ fans spend whole game threads on here anyway.

So again, sorry for dragging this out so long. It’s not exactly either of our shining moments, and I think it will probably be hidden by tomorrow afternoon. I reread my comments (less frustrated) and some of them were over the top. Reread yours, same story.

Either way good luck against the Thunder (common enemy), and hopefully the Nuggets can pull out a miracle so we can see our teams face each other again.

I don’t mind your presence, and I have seen you on here before (usually in an argument, but that doesn’t bother me; I enjoy my fair share of arguments). I NEVER wrote that.

I gave my opinions on the issues this team has and why they haven’t been able to reach anywhere near the potential they have.

And oddly enough, my opinions mirror that of a lot of actual Denver Nuggets “fans”.

Don’t put words in to my mouth.

I agree that the refs called it horribly and that they were very inconsistent

the bad thing was not that it was from baseline to baseline changing it was from quarter to quarter as well. I want the refs to stay consistent throughout the game. The calls they get on one team they get on the other.

That said the Nuggets played horrible D again and could not overcome that and their poor ball movement to get the W.

I know that if we just play the whole game like the last 10 minutes of the game we will be fine. We need to get Nene to actually step up. We pass to him and he passes out of it. JR needs to start going to the hoop. When he gets the ball play some pick and roll. Also when Melo is trying all out and starts dragging a soft double have someone move behind it to get an easy bucket.

We can do this, time for the 7 game series to actually start for us Nuggets!

Not the Coach or the Refs

The problem lies with the Nuggets themselves. You guys are acting like you didn’t watch the same game that I did. The Nuggets have just been over dribbling and shooting bad jump shots for the past 3 games. Bad ball movement, bad PG play, and weak front line work. Call people on here quitters all you want, but you should call a spade a spade… The Nugs have been playing like shit.

How the hell is Dantley supposed to change things. The coach doesn’t really effect the game play, aside from time outs and plays called out of those time outs.

"I believe that basketball, when a certain level of unselfish team play is realized, can serve as a kind of metaphor for ultimate cooperation. It is a sport where success, as symbolized by the championship, requires that the dictates of the community prevail over selfish personal impulses. An exceptional player is simply one point on a five-pointed star. Statistics—such as points, rebounds, or assists per game—can never explain the remarkable interaction that takes place on a successful pro team."

It all started 2 1/2 months ago

That first half of the Lakers game was the champion nuggets. Then Lawson went down… then Kenyon, then George.
I now see why a good coach is important especially to a Denver team. We need that stability and leader on the bench.
Remember when Karl first came to the Nuggets and we went on a 32-8 run. That is why coaching is so important

by JR15 on Apr 25, 2010 11:26 PM MDT via mobile reply actions

Also

It’s not over yet. What if Deron tears an ACL in game 5? Again I know that is probably the only way Denver wins the series, but as they say anything can happen.
Ok I’m joking, I am in medicine so I can’t wish for that… But if it is D Will. I will jump on the Quitters United team.
Is it me or do we play better against a fully healthy jazz squad than this version of them?

Melo did not know

There’s no way Melo could have known that AD called him out. Unless Dantley said something to him personally, which I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t do, especially after a big loss. That’s what makes it such a low blow. Call out your best player when other guys simply didn’t contribute half of what he did

Let's Be Honest

Management rolled the dice this past summer by A) Not getting a quality Big and B) Hoping both JR and Nene would finally grow into their potential, which did not happen. I love Nene as a person but his time is up, and JR was given a chance and didn’t use it. We also played CB way to many minutes during the season, and he is just wore out, you know his heart. Going forward I love Melo, Blur, CB, AAA, and maybe even Joey. Nene and JR need to be replaced, and with people who will be an upgrade. Kmart is fine but if you can get a quality player for his expiring contract, I would do so. All that said, I am with you fellas, Nuggets to the END. GO NUGGETS!!!

Its time to blow this team up in the offseason

-Get rid of Nene its obvious he doesnt care to play like his body is built.
-Trade KMart, not that I have anything against him but hes got too much money coming.
-Bird needs to be limited to 5 mins a game so he doesnt get hurt and suck all season.
-Give Petro mins, he has shown he wants to play and actually WILL play, unlike the Nugs this post season
I look for the starters next year to be:
CB, Melo, Petro, open, open. with jr and joey off the bench for now

I’ve loved the nuggets forever and when they were horrible at least they were consistent. We have a championship caliber team but not even they want to win or care about the playoffs.

by RPN on Apr 25, 2010 11:45 PM MDT up reply actions

JR has a long way to go to realize that he's part of a team

If he isn’t hitting shots he isn’t doing anything. He was lost out there on defense when we needed him the most. I was pulling for AD to replace him with Afflalo in the final minutes but we all know AD has no idea how to put winners on the floor.
Do you think he’s tanking these games so that the team that retired his jersey would win?

by NuggBuckets on Apr 26, 2010 9:54 AM MDT up reply actions

He’s not that young anymore. He’s been in the league long enough now that it’s fair to expect him to show more maturity and consistency.

I wouldn’t try to read anything more into it that isn’t there. JR isn’t exactly TS Elliot; if he was trying to call someone out, he’d probably just say it. As the comment stands, he’s right. I hope there is some introspection involved in this comment, but either way, I don’t think it’s a sign of discontentment in the locker room. Maybe I’m being hopeful, though. Shit, who knows?

Maybe we could use

Petro as a starter the next game. Or Allen. Then when Williams drives to the hoop Allen would clothesline him and send him crashing head first. Maybe the refs will call it a playoff foul.

by NuggsFan15 on Apr 26, 2010 1:11 AM MDT reply actions

Summary

More Afflalo less JR
More Lawson less Billups
More Petro (For which ever big isn’t showing up) Nene or Anderson

Teach these guys how to deliver a hard clean foul. Kmart can instruct. I’m tired of Williams and Boozer driving untouched to the basket. If Williams is lowering the shoulder deliver a hard foul. (Jerry Sloan would come unglued if his team game up so many free be’s.)

I’ve never been prouder of #15, now we need to go get him some help, the type of help who will recognize his game is the focus and their gme needs to be molded around it.

All I’m saying is that he has disappeared and gets pushed around by players who have no business manhandling him. He’s got some fire in there somewhere, he beat cancer after all, but he hasn’t shown one ounce of it on the court this series.

by DonnyDenverness on Apr 26, 2010 2:00 PM MDT up reply actions

It's all good

It’s kind of a touchy subject here. If you had said “Birdman needs to grow a pair,” then no one would be complaining, but with Nene it’s a different story.

But yeah. Nene’s total absence from Games 3 and 4 have been extremely disappointing for a guy who we all thought would be the x-factor.

i wonder if carlos boozer stinks!?

causing nene to stay away from the paint and avoid all body contact!? lol j/k.

i feel like we open the games strong and stick to the gameplan for about 7-8 minutes. utah weathers the early storm and stays composed. after about 8 possessions, our shots are falling and we resort to 0 or 1 pass iso-offense. utah slowly cuts the deficit and eventually takes the lead. once that happens, we go into MAJOR panic mode even though there is still 3 quarters of basketball left. we tense up and start forcing everything on offense. we get caught gambling on D bc we think we can take the lead with one steal and fastbreak, which leads to layups for the jazz. and we have cement in our shoes when there are loose balls on the ground.

everything is ass backward. we need to fight for the loose balls, fight for everything that could be ours. that means everyone is rebounding on defense, closing out on utah shooters and stop being lazy and grab the fuckin ball. as for offense, we can score but we jsut gotta stick with it. just bc we go down 1 or 3 or 7, we dont have to force things on every possession or rely on melo to dig us out of the hole we put ourselves in. keep moving, keep passing and stay composed. forcing shots only leads to utah fastbreaks.

if we’re gonna lose this series, at least go down fighting.

I don't want to get into an extended back and forth

But I’m seriously curious: Why is Nene such an underachiever? I mean, he’s huge, quick, athletic, has great hands, wonderful smile, and a soft touch near the basket. And yet, he has no post-up moves, averages only about 7 rebounds, and rarely shoots. How is he getting so little out of his obvious talent and amazing physique? It seems like he could be a dominant force, but just isn’t?

JR Smith has performed as I expected, but the Denver bigs have been small. Martin and Andersen are ailing. What about Nene?

He’s literally double my size, yet quicker than me, and better looking. He’s a young millionaire who has ditched his last name. He is almost always more physically talented than his opponent. HOW is this guy not confident? He should be consistently getting 17 pts, 10 reb, and 2 blk. He needs to recommit.

by Bouncy Phillips on Apr 26, 2010 9:56 AM MDT up reply actions

two aspects

There’s the physical aspect — Nene’s great physically. Incredible talent.

Then there’s the mental aspect. He doesn’t have a killer instinct. He doesn’t thrive on competition. I don’t think you can really teach that to somebody. Either you have it or you don’t. There are lots of players out there who go pretty far on limited physical skills because they make up for it with the mental aspect.

Fundamental problems

There are 2 major problems with this team and they were in place prior to GK’s absence, but they have become even more magnified as AD has taken over and doesn’t seem to have the insight or ability to adjust.

#1, They don’t defend the pick and roll. This is a glaring problem with this team’s defense. PG’s that run the P&R decently just kill the Nuggets and it is so frustrating to watch. DWill, Nash, you name it; if they run it with a big setting the pick we don’t defend it. I don’t know if it is coaching or if the bigs are just lazy, but it is so frustrating to watch the opposing big set a pick for the PG. Then our big sags back several feet while our PG has to fight around the pick. Then our PG is trailing their PG, who has several feet of free space to attack the big and now also has a big that is wide open for a 15 foot jumper or rolling to the lane wide open.

Why on earth don’t they understand that if that big comes on the other side of the pick. Then the big and PG can push the opposing PG back with a double team, can usually get back to his man while the PG has to bring it back into the offensive zone.

ARRRGGGHHHH!!!!! It drives me crazy watching these teams run this again and again and again and we still don’t get it.

#2, Lack of overall toughness/tenacity. This is several small things rolled into one, and some of these have just crept back into the Nuggets psyche recently:
- Can anyone on this team set a decent pick? I have watched most of the games this year and I think I could count on one hand the times that I have seen a good solid pick, either for the guy with the ball or off the ball. It drives me crazy watching someone come out to set a pick at the top of the key and then slip or roll before the defender had even touched him.
- For goodness sakes, please take it to the rim and finish strongly! Nene is probably the most frustrating culprit of this with his missed layups and finger rolls and half hooks. All the while teasing us every once in awhile with an occasional monster dunk. Melo also has some problems with the softness around the rim, but he gets a pass. He tends to finish his double clutches, plus 30 points a night buys you some leeway offensively. Ever wonder why Lebron gets so many calls, (other than us being witnesses)- he takes it to the rim with authority almost every time he drives the lane.
- If you don’t have offensive plays run for you and/or your jumper is suspect from 10+ feet, then hang around the paint for offensive rebounds. iI swear, if KMart did this he would easily average 20+ points a game. (see also Bird, Nene, Petro to a lesser extent) I am about to lose my dang mind watching guys who can shoot a lick stand around 18 feet from the rim and then bail as soon as a shot goes up. Those points are there to be had if someone would just take them.
- Make your fouls worth it! You know that you are getting called for a foul when DWill comes barreling into the lane, so put him on the ground – HARD! maybe after 5 or so time he has to pick himself up from a hard foul, he won’t be so aggressive into the paint. You have to give it to Jerry Sloan, the Jazz foul so much, it is impossible for the refs to call every foul. (see also Ron Artest) Maybe if the Nuggs started doing this the ticky tack fouls we see get called against them would start to disappear. I wonder if this left with D Jones in the offseason, because at least we saw this element last year in the playoffs.

I don’t even know if the Nuggets have the coaching, the personnel or the will to make these changes. It might end up taking a rebuild. I am more confident than ever that the Nuggets can win a championship with Melo as the star, but unless there are some fundamental changes, I am worried that it may never happen.

Sorry about the long-winded post, I am just trying to clear my head after these last frustrating games.

Ughhh...

What a disaster. I feel bad for both Melo, and especially Karl… I really can’t believe AD, he looks like he could care less whether we’re winning or losing out there. He’s all set as long as he’s got his ‘classy’ pinstripe suit and someone to blame at the end of the game.

It’s really too bad. We’re a great team when we execute. Not sure what KMart was doing, but it looked like he was pretty much just standing around waiting for a miracle to happen the entire second half. I have a lot of respect for him as a player… but you just can’t stand around waiting for melo to “save the team.” That goes for any of the nuggs big men really. And honestly…. Where was petro the whole game? At least throw him in there for a MINUTE and see what happens…. I’d bet money that he’d at least capitalize on his minutes and play hard playoff basketball. I’m liking Lawson a lot lately. I can’t wait to see the player that he develops to in the next few years. But really guys… Where’s the “playoffs hustle”??? Anyone that shows any less than 100% during game 5 should be benched. Earn your minutes, I don’t care who you are. Ugh….

My prayers go out to Coach Karl and his family… it’s nice to see him moving around a bit at least. I don’t care if we win or lose at this point really… I don’t see us winning 3 in a row at this point. But for Karl’s sake… just play hard at home at least. Like…. please? =/

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
