Game 82 Second Half Thread: Nuggets at Suns

Nene_mediumI didn't really just see a lineup of Anthony Carter, Ty Lawson, Chauncey Billups, Malik Allen and Chris Andersen, did I?

Suns 70, Nuggets 49

I'm ashamed to be a Nuggets fan tonight.

Although I’d rather put on my Iverson Nuggets jersey at this point.

i didnt watch the 30 for 30

but i’ve been an iverson fan for the past 10 years, and he’s actually the reason i followed the Nuggets because they had my favorite player [Iverson] and also brought my second favorite player [JR] from the Hornets. I’ve known about this trial for a while, and take this for what you may, but Iverson has always said that the eyewitness accounts were inaccurate. I remember he said that even if he had hit someone, he wouldn’t have hit a woman in the head with a chair, because that’s what the eyewitnesses were saying

now i didn’t watch 30 for 30 yet so maybe there’s something I’m missing, but Iverson is possibly the most misunderstood athlete in history.

he wanted to win one on his own. Just like Kobe does (and did). Just like every superstar ever.

Lebron, Bosh, Wade, Melo and Howard could all team up and run the league for years. But they don’t, because they want to do it on their own terms.

You have an extremely loose definition of the word thug

If you think he’s selfish (I don’t, but you can; neither of us actually knows him personally), ok, but that has nothing to do with being a “thug.” Why don’t you try using words the way they were meant to be, instead of relying on them for epithets based on racial stereotypes.

Alright before everyone kills themself or worse! - becomes an OKC fan

REMEMBER that you never know what you are going to get with this team. Yeah, they’ll finish with the 5th seed and not have home court. But don’t give up hope…this team was amazing in last year’s playoffs (on the road or at home). Now they’ve gotten even better with AAA and that other kid whom I have forgotten all about.

Anyway the Nuggets have done very well against the Jazz this year, so should we draw them (very possible) then not all hope is lost. Remember the Nugs won in Utah without Melo or Chauncey.

by Uh on Apr 13, 2010 10:16 PM MDT reply actions

by aLuffabo on Apr 13, 2010 10:17 PM MDT up reply actions

Disagree

The Nugs will finish with a 53-29 record, one game back of last year’s. They go in to the playoffs facing either the Suns or Jazz. The latter team has had massive struggles against the Nuggets.

Then should the Nugs pull out a first round win, they face the Lakers, who have struggled enormously as of late.

Besides, optimism is never that great of a stretch when you have Carmelo, AM I RIGHT

by Uh on Apr 13, 2010 10:20 PM MDT up reply actions

but it’s a big if, cause last year they were playing good defense. This season not so much.

Exactly

I’m not talking about skill level here. I’m talking about what the player brings and what you need around him to win. Any of those 5 guys I listed first can give you a chance to win any game with 1 more good player. Carmelo can’t do that. He, like Joe Johnson, needs another star beside him at the least to win

Who do you think is a better head coach overall

Larry Brown or George Karl?

by jb22 on Apr 13, 2010 10:42 PM MDT reply actions

the reason i ask is because of this

George Karl and Larry Brown are polar opposites in this sense.

George is the kind of guy who will take the W. Larry would rather lose playing the right way.

I guess I knew that

I’m just so fucking frustrated. The thing to remember is that GK winning his fight with cancer is bigger than any championship the Nuggets could have won this year. Let’s just start getting ready for the playoffs and play with some pride and focus once there. That’s all I can ask at this point. The Nuggets will win a title some day. It would have been this year if everything could have stayed together, but, needless to say, it hasn’t. If we don’t turn it around in this year’s playoffs, we need to make a minor tweak, add some depth that will actually have a serious impact, and we’ll take it next year. This group isn’t done yet. But, boy does this game suck.

they'll probably throw the game...

thinking how easy they have it against the nuggets

"I believe that basketball, when a certain level of unselfish team play is realized, can serve as a kind of metaphor for ultimate cooperation. It is a sport where success, as symbolized by the championship, requires that the dictates of the community prevail over selfish personal impulses. An exceptional player is simply one point on a five-pointed star. Statistics—such as points, rebounds, or assists per game—can never explain the remarkable interaction that takes place on a successful pro team."

As easy as they have it against the Nuggets

they wouldn’t be playing a whole lot worse against a Roy-less Blazer squad. Plus they get out of the Lakers’ side of the bracket.

After the Suns win tomorrow, the Nuggets will have home court against the Jazz. We’ve had the Jazz’s number. So what if we draw the Lakers in the second round instead of the conference finals? Better to get them out of the way since we have to go through them anyway. Nothing is over!

The game was an utter turd

There’s no use piling it on any specific player. When I’ve been resigned to this game being a loss since early in the second quarter, everyone fucking sucked. Let’s just see what the playoffs bring. I personally am going to take a couple days off the Nuggets, throw myself entirely behind the Avs, and hopefully by Friday night I’ll be feeling some excitement for the Nuggets again. When that happens, I’m looking strictly at what lies ahead and will hopefully never think of this game again (which won’t happen because games like this scar you as a fan, but I can hope).

by airforcefoo on Apr 13, 2010 11:42 PM MDT up reply actions

i do realize the entire team laid a goose egg tonight

but billups is the leader of this team. the team more often than not follows his example. for whatever reason down the stretch, he turned into AI 2.0, holding the ball for way too damn long and trying to make something out of nothing. what happens next? the major players on this team follow suit (melo and JR). what you get is what we’ve been seeing on the floor as of late. i do realize it’s unfair to pin the blame all on one person, but this has been a recurring theme as of late, and it’s fucked this team’s chances over.

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
