Definitely isn’t an excuse and not the biggest factor, but this is the most games any of them have played, other than Chauncey (no idea about him). Plus Melo in the Olympics. Hopefully this experience will help for next season.

by holly96 on May 29, 2009 9:36 PM MDT up reply actions

Lakers have Bryant and Gasol

both were in the Olympics, and had a long playoff run last season. Albeit, Gasol did miss early time in the beginning of last season

by tandur on May 29, 2009 9:38 PM MDT up reply actions

Right

But like you say, maybe they’re better equipped for it since they did it last year, too.

by ParkHillNative on May 29, 2009 9:36 PM MDT reply actions

Well, congrats to the Lakers for closing out in six.

And congrats to the Nuggets. With the exception of tonight’s game they played a hell of a series and had a great playoffs run. They’ve got the pieces to have a good 2009-2010.

by skywaker9 on May 29, 2009 9:39 PM MDT up reply actions

Nah

JR is locked up for 3 more years, it kicks in next season

Dahntay, AC and the rest can kick rocks

Birdman – love that dude. If he leaves to get paid somewhere else he earned it. The Nugs should do whatever it takes to keep him.

by runningdonut on May 29, 2009 9:42 PM MDT up reply actions

Yup yup.

too bad we have no decent draft picks and no young guys to take over point. That’d be key for me after resigning Bird.

by NuggBuckets on May 29, 2009 9:43 PM MDT up reply actions

I'm not big on this years draft

I don’t know if we should bring back Jason Hart either.

Getting a young, pure PG should be priority number 1, even if it comes at the expense of Kleiza. Props to LK for battling hard in this series though

by runningdonut on May 29, 2009 9:45 PM MDT up reply actions

Yeah, it's a weak draft.

I don’t think we’re missing out on much there. But it would still be nice to get a good young point guard in here, at least as a back up.

by holly96 on May 29, 2009 9:53 PM MDT up reply actions

Birdman

I also think he’d prefer to stay in Denver, so it should be doable.

by holly96 on May 29, 2009 9:44 PM MDT up reply actions

Yes, but...

Denver can’t offer him what other teams could. However, Bird isn’t a starter so that should help the Nuggets case.

by NuggBuckets on May 29, 2009 9:45 PM MDT up reply actions

Exactly

He might even get more than the MLE. He’s a special player, but I think he’ll have to sacrifice a little to stay with the Nugs. That’s up to him, you can’t hate

by runningdonut on May 29, 2009 9:48 PM MDT up reply actions

Right, he may have to sacrifice some.

But my point was that if there’s any guy who I think might choose to do that, it’s him.

by holly96 on May 29, 2009 9:54 PM MDT up reply actions

For sure

Something tells me Bird wouldn’t be as beastly on another team. He is still a role player, in a great environment on a team where his role is perfectly carved out for him.

by runningdonut on May 29, 2009 9:59 PM MDT up reply actions

Did not see this coming at all

So, what do they do to get to the next level?

Gotta play smarter. Need a decent back-up point guard.

It got a little slow there for a bit when Jeremy left, but it’s been great. Hopefully we all stick around.

by holly96 on May 29, 2009 9:45 PM MDT up reply actions

Well.

That sucked. Sort of. It was great to matter again. I will now take a shot for every Pau Gasol foul that wasn’t called. See you on the other side of life.

by A.J. Haefele on May 29, 2009 9:41 PM MDT reply actions

The game was called loose.

Which favored LA. But Denver lost this bad boy all by themselves. They played so poorly the officiating didn’t matter an ounce.

by NuggBuckets on May 29, 2009 9:42 PM MDT up reply actions

Absolutely.

But I’m human and scapegoating someone on the Lakers because it’s what fans do. The Nuggets were BAD in their last 5 quarters. If you eliminate the last 5 quarters and the last 2 minutes of games 1 and 3, Denver wins this series. It sucks to take a step back and realize we were that close.

That doesn’t change the fact that Gasol got away with more than anyone in this series. That blatant hack on Nene tonight that was apparently an amazing strip by Odom is just an example. It’s just hard to root for the guys who complain about everything, certain Nuggets included.

by A.J. Haefele on May 29, 2009 9:48 PM MDT up reply actions

Don't blame ya

I wish I could blame the refs. Sure, there were calls that should have gone our way. And I knew we were screwed when Stern put Joey Crawford and Mark Wunderlich on the officiating crew. So I guess we could continue the conspiracy theories with that. But even if the calls had favored the Nuggets they still would have lost this one. It was their piss-poor defense that lost it. Giving up 101 points with 7 minutes left to play in the 4th? Inexcusable.

by NuggBuckets on May 29, 2009 9:52 PM MDT up reply actions

Still agreeing with you.

This team lost it on it’s own.

Just gotta say..

Great season by the Nuggets. They played hard, played as a team and worked their asses off.

Melo did a great Job growing up and Chauncey was a great addition. Birdman too. The fans were also crazy.

For a while you looked like the strongest team in the West especially during the Conference Semis.

All in all a good job by this young Nuggets team.

Great year. Horrible game. And go Magic. I don’t want Kobe to grimace his way and Gasol to whine his way to a championship.

I’m going to go grab some ice cream with my little girl. Nice chatting with you. Over and out fellas.

Congrats Nuggets on a great season! It’s been a real joy, and I hope the team is able to do whatever is necessary to take the next step forward a year from now.

Great series, great season…. see you guys next year in the WCF again….

by Mr. Laker on May 29, 2009 10:34 PM MDT up reply actions

Yep, great season - great playoff run.

Hopefully Stan had a good fiscal year and can give Wark some freedom. We need to get younger at point guard and get a real starting shooting guard. No offense to Dahntay but he’s a stop-gap player, not a solution. If JR is going to start we need a scoring threat off the bench and I’m not sure LK is that guy. Yes, he’s young and has a lot of potential but I’d like to see a veteran off the bench. Someone who can score on the road just as well as at home.

by NuggBuckets on May 29, 2009 10:35 PM MDT up reply actions

Word

JR is still an enigma. If he’s ever going to start for us, maybe it should be now. Whatever, I’m about to move onto shots for the rest of the night. There’s plenty of time for fanposts about this shit in the offseason. Bottom line, I’ll be smiling whenever this wears off. Great season.

Damn, I do think the Lakers got over whatever ailed them in the Houston series, as they didn’t give us anything except 1 bad quarter in game 4. They are the most talented NBA team and should win, all that flip switching bullshit seems a little ridiculous now. If you show up big when it really matters, then what the balls do you have to worry about? Nothing.

This team ran around like a headless chicken for the last 5 quarters of the series. I’m not sure if it was Chauncey & Melo or the Lakers, probably a combo of both. The Lakers were better though, no doubt. Part of me wonders if Chauncey and Nene were really ready to go in their first years as big players on this team.

I thought we were winning the championship. Hell, at least I’m a proud idiot. This will wear off and I’ll be a around for at least the next few months with a few of you. Nuggets forever. This was just the beginning.

by runningdonut on May 29, 2009 10:55 PM MDT up reply actions

Great series guys.........Nuggs scared the crap out of me.

Up until this game I honestly felt the teams were completely even or the Nuggs were better. Even after this game (not representative of the Nuggets postseason) I think you guys are way better than I thought. Good luck next season, maybe now you will be mentioned in the “teams to look out for in the coming seasons” in the West.

Well, sir, you are a cowardly son of a bitch! You just shot an unarmed man!.......Well, he should have armed himself if he's going to decorate his saloon with my friend. – Will Munny

Good series, guys (from Laker fan)

Gave us a run for the money … I was sure of victories over Utah and Houston, but was really doubting LA’s chances vs. the Nuggs (not from LA’s poor play, they can turn it on like a light switch, but because of Denver’s physical play). Nice to see another up and coming team from the West, I absolutely abhor how weak the East is except for 3 teams.

STIFF LIST (as of 2/7 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. THE NUGGETS AT HOME
How is it possible that a Nuggets team with this much talent can be 7-5 at home?! Things have gotten so bad that fans are clamoring for J.R. Smith to return.

2. CARMELO ANTHONY
Kobe Bryant plays through any and all ailments. Melo uses any and ailments as an excuse not to play.

3. KEVIN LOVE
Just when the T'Wolves are looking better, Love stomps on Luis Scola and lands himself a two-game suspension.

4. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS
The 'Cats have lost 11 straight and are now 3-21 ... in the Eastern Conference! This is what happens when you let an underwear salesman with a Hitler mustache run your team.

5. MIKE BROWN
Dr. Bunsen Honeydew (Google it!) got himself a one-game suspension for making contact with a referee.
