Game 3 preview and THREAD: Nuggets @ Hornets

This early start is really going to be quite weird. 11 a.m. tip for us Denverites.
Nate's Keys to the Game:
- Get aggressive on offense EARLY. The crowd will surely be fired up for the first home game. Denver has the Hornets on the ropes with two big wins so letting the Bugs know early that it's going to be more of the same will be vital.
- Control the boards. Nothing gets the home crowd fired up more than second chance points and put back dunks ... see Andersen, Chris or Martin, Kenyon.
- Unleash Dahntay Jones. I'm sure Karl will continue to ride the hot hand or hands of Jones on Chris Paul.
- Protect the arc. Rasual Butler and Peja Stojakovic were hot in Game 2 from deep and it will be key for Denver not to get sucked in on Paul's dribble drives and for Melo and Co. to continue to smother NOLA's shooters.
- ATTACK! The rim is the Nuggets' friend. By attacking the hoop not only do the Nuggets have the higher percentage shots, but they will have the ability to get the Hornets into foul trouble.
- Make your foul shots. Denver was just 13-21 in Game 3 and 2-10 without Billups' 11-11 performance. If the Nuggets attack the rim they must make the Hornets pay by making their shots from the charity stripe.
- Share the ball. The Nuggets will go into jumpshot mode on the road if they are playing from behind. It's uncanny how the "one-on-one" mentality will take over on the road, away from the friendly confines of The Can. If Denver follows points #1 and #5 then playing from behind should not be the case.
If the Nuggets can follow these 7 steps then they will win Game 3 ...

I am super pumped for this game! I am taking it easy tonight to be fully awake and clear headed when we tip off tomorrow.
Getting a good start is key. Voted Melo, he’s been playing team ball but we need him to explode to the rim and get to the line at least once in this playoffs. I fear that we can’t count on 50% shooting in their house, lets get some pts in the paint and free throw MAKES. I just hope we can keep up the incredible energy on defense and execute our game in hostile territory.
Remember, NOH wanted this matchup and acted like it was a good thing they tanked at the end of the season and drew the Denver Nuggets. Winning tonight would be so awesome. GO NUGS!!!

This game, to me, is the biggest of the series. Lose and the momentum swings to the Hornets with another game on their home court and with the Hornets feeling like all they needed was some home cooking to get it going. Win and the Nuggets go up 3-0 with the luxury to lose game 4 with game 5 at home.
In a game like this it’s going to take either CB or Melo putting the team on its back. I think Melo is due for a big game so I voted for him. This game is Melo’s best chance to shine and show he can put a team away after his teammates have helped him to the 2-0 advantage. I’m geared up to see how they do on the road. GO NUGGETS!

I feel Melo needs to step up for the Nugs to win this game.
I know Chauncy took the lead in the first two games and they had a well rounded effort from everybody . . . but in the biggest games, you need your biggest stars to be their best.
Whether it’s with double digit assists or 30+ points, I feel Melo needs to step up. I would also love to see him take it to the rack and get at least 6 to 8 free throws.
All else fails, bring in JR Swish off the bench for the instant offense and Birdman for some energy and intensity.
I am so ready for this game to start!
After going to wed. stellar game from the Nuggs and Fri. not so stellar game from the Rockies combined with an early work clinics twice this week (today was one)…all I want is some high quality Nuggets basketball!

You should expect a close game no matter how tough Denver plays. NO was going to go on a run especially after the way we beat them down in 1 and 2.
I will be very pleased to win this game but I don’t expect them to. New Orleans is going to win at least one at home barring a major collapse.

And why is AC playing all of the sudden? This was a totally unnecessary loss. I wish we had been blown out. The score doesn’t show how bad this one really was

This was a shameful game
If we made free throws, didn’t play AC, and been patient in the fourth quarter, this was a win.
Don’t be fooled by that lost shot, we basically won the fucking lottery to even have that chance. The Nuggets bounce back and wake the hell up in game 4

Tough loss. Denver has GOT TO HIT FTs. Chauncey must be pissed.
Tough loss, but FTs are what killed us today. 11 missed FTs and we lose by two. Chauncey has gotta be pissed.
Interesting that LA lost in almost the same way on the road, except it was Utah that killed them with Deron’s jumper rather than having a chance like Denver did to win the game. Both teams lose game 3 by two on the road. Huh.
Good game in the last few minutes. Kenyon, West, Chandler and Nene ALL foul out.
I don’t know why Melo took that little head fake as he was running down the court, he should have passed it to JR really. JR has been money on half court shots this year and I think the fake threw off his line.
Game 4. Monday. Gonna be good, be there.
Last offensive play
JR picked up his dribble too soon, Chauncey should have got the ball in this situation, but JR passed to melo. There was too much time on the shot clock for Carmelo to shoot and our only skilled big (Nene) had fouled out. Melo pretty much had to put the ball on the floor and KMart had an open dunk if Melos pass had got through
Honestly
I had a feeling the Hornets would win this one, and just by this scenario too.
Look the Nuggets lost this game, the Hornets didn’t win. If Denver makes all the technical free throws (Birdman and Billups missed one each) they win this game. Good lord, they sucked it up from the line. They also nearly won it on the last two plays.
Plus Nene was absolutely worthless today. Don’t sweat this one.
All things considered
The Nuggets still have the edge in this series. Some better shot selection, free throw making and/or a made shot by Melo down the end and this team is up 3-0. It’ll be intresting to see how physical this series gets and how the likes of Martin, Posey and Chandler react to fouls.
Denver’s still in the driving seat, barring a Chris Paul classic game, I expect the Nuggets to come out in Game 4 and take care of business heading back to the Mile High City.

To start the fourth quarter with a chuck fest 3 pt shooting contest, that’s not our team. We wasted a good defensive effort for that and ruined our own chance to win. Watching the tease at the end was our punishment for playing poorly and selfish.
This one stings being so close but we didn’t deserve to win. I do believe we’ll use this to get back on track in game 4.

Denver in 3 games now is 26/33 13/21 and 24/35.
If you add that up, Denver is just 63/89 from the line for a total of TWENTY-SIX free throws missed. 70.7%. That is absolutely terrible for the playoffs.
I hope we win Monday...
