Nuggets Playoff Update

The Nuggets 53-27 sit right now in the #2 seed. They control their own destiny with games at home vs. Sacramento (April 13th) and on the road vs. Portland (April 15th.)

The best Denver can finish is 55-27 ... the worst is 53-29.

Win out and Denver is the 2 Seed.

Houston 51-28: games left 3 (at Golden State, vs. New Orleans, at Dallas). Houston owns the tiebreaker over the Nuggets. If Houston finished tied with Denver they will get the higher seed. Best Houston can finish 54-28 ... worst 51-31.

Portland 50-28: games left 4 (vs. Lakers, at Clippers, vs. OK City, vs. Denver). Denver owns the tiebreaker over the Blazers based on Division Record, Denver can still win the head-to-head match up as well (2-1 currently). A Portland loss in any of their next 4 games give the division to the Nuggets.

San Antonio 50-28: games left 4. (vs. Jazz, at Sacramento, at Golden State, vs. New Orleans). Denver owns the tiebreaker based on Head-to-Head matchup (2-1 Nuggets).

The worse the Nuggets can finish is #5.

If Denver wins Sacramento...?

They clinch division also, right?

But we need that and a loss of Houston to clinch #2?

by Lucas Navarrete on Apr 10, 2009 2:29 PM MDT reply actions

Yes. Denver's magic number vs. Portland is 1, vs Houston it is 2.

Any combination of 1 Denver win OR one Portland loss clinches the NW Division for Denver.

For Houston, Denver needs to either win both remaining games, have Houston lose both remaining games, or have Denver win one game and have Houston lose one game down the stretch.

if denver wins 1 and houston loses 1, is it still not done?

i thought it was! and i still think it is, isn’t it?

2 by denver.
1 by denver and 1 loss by houston
2 loss by houston

is this right.?

by Lucas Navarrete on Apr 10, 2009 3:42 PM MDT reply actions

OR

2 loss by houston and 1 win by denver? is that what you meant?

so it is.

2 by denver
1 by denver and 1 loss by houston
1 by denver and 2 by houston
0 by denver and 3 by houston

Now is right isn’t it? I think so

by Lucas Navarrete on Apr 10, 2009 3:46 PM MDT up reply actions

i dont get it… can somebody definitely tell me how this works? lol

by Lucas Navarrete on Apr 10, 2009 3:47 PM MDT up reply actions

win 1 and houston loose 1 doesn’t work, or it does?

by Lucas Navarrete on Apr 10, 2009 3:49 PM MDT up reply actions

magic number is 2

it means, from our remaining 2 games and houstons remaining 3, we need 2 to go our way. whether that is 2 wins from us, 2 losses for them, or one win for us and a loss for them, we are #2. luckily we have a game against sacramento, and they have games against NO and @dallas left. i think we can get it done.

Portland AND Houston both won last night...

That makes Monday’s game against Sacramento pretty much a must win. If we lose to the Kings at home, and force a divisional game in Portland on the last game of the season, I really am unsure as to how the Nuggets win that one.

by Colin Neilson on Apr 11, 2009 1:31 AM MDT reply actions

So...

If we win at Sacramento, what do we need for clinching both Division and #2???

If we win Sacramento we clinch Division and then we have to wait for Houston to lose one, right? Or win at Portland also.

Is this right?

Anyone else getting a little worried that POR keeps beating the poo out of good teams?

"C" is for Championship...that's good enough for meeeee!!!

by PosterNutbag on Apr 11, 2009 2:32 PM MDT reply actions

Nothing to worry about

If we win Monday, the division will be in Denver…
And Monday is definitely a winnable game, with Sacramento probably trying to get Griffin, and we playin in Denver…

by Lucas Navarrete on Apr 11, 2009 3:41 PM MDT up reply actions

Anyone going to the game on Monday?

I wasn’t originally planning on it, but if they win, we get to see a Northwest Division Champions banner hoisted up, and that would be pretty sick.

by Colin Neilson on Apr 12, 2009 5:44 PM MDT reply actions

There's no "IF"

Tomorrow’s game is already won guys. Sacramento plays today, travels to Denver on the night, and then plays in the Rockies.

That’s an easy “W” right there

Man I hope you are right

By all that is holy, you should be. The Kings will be coming off the end of a back-to-back. I hope every Nugget player and member of staff as memorised every aspect of every King’s play. If there is any justice we will beat them by 30 points. Nuggets, do your adoring fans this last regular season solid by beating the worst team in the league.

I'll be there.

Lets make it interesting

Drop the game to the Kings and come play for the division on the last game of the season.

You know what's a really ironic nightmare scenario?

If the Nuggets lose to the Kings, then lose to Portland, and Houston and San Antonio win out….

San Antonio will have homecourt advantage.

And play Denver in the first round.

falls to the floor gibbering

by Colin Neilson on Apr 12, 2009 10:40 PM MDT reply actions

Congratulations on the win

And the Northwest Division championship. There weren’t many people penciling Denver in that slot, but then again, who cares?

Good luck in the playoffs.

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
