Nuggets left waiting for reserve spots

Carmelo Anthony wasn't named an all-star starter by the fans. The Northwest leading Denver Nuggets will have to wait to see if the coaches name either Melo or Billups to the squad.

Nene will probably be left out in the cold, but it will be a shame if the Nuggets are completely forgotten by the league.

I would almost say at this point that it's more of an honor to be named a reserve by the coaches than it is to win the casual fan vote.

But not having an all-star this year (not likely to happen) could give Denver a nice big fat chip on their shoulder the rest of the way. I hope Melo feels that way already and carries that over on to the court.

Kinda hard to pick. By all standards Nene is having an All-Star year but he’s the sort of guy that will get overlooked. Chauncey is clutch and Anthony already got the snub. Hard to pick, but I had to go with Anthony for the sheer fact that Stoudemire got the nudge over him.

I hear ya

All three guys (Billups, Melo and Nene) are having great seasons and are overshadowed by guys who are household names in the uber-talented Western Conference.

But only one guy will most likely get the call. I think if Nene can replicate his performance and improve just a bit more he’ll be an all-star next season.

Unfortunatley...

Renaldo “The Crime Stopper” Balkman is getting a fist right now. Unbelivable how a guy of his talent wouldn’t even be brought into the all star discussion.

I hope you’re joking. As much as I like Renaldo Balkman and think he should get more playing time, a man on the bench who doesn’t play for several games at a time shouldn’t even get all-star consideration.

Mr. 5280

I think it’s safe to say that 5280 really thinks Balkman should get more minutes…

Nuggets snub

I agree with you that Billups and Melo deserve to be starters. Iverson hasn’t done for his team what Billups has for the Nuggets and he was voted to start. Sports fans often overlook Denver teams when choosing talent. I also think Nene deserves a nod so maybe next year as he continues to improve.
I’m heading to the game tonight and think it will be exciting. What is your prediction?

Prediction?

I’ll say Denver wins 117-97 … ha – I didn’t see this comment in time (obviously).

Billups!

I’m not surprised to see readers voting for Billups ahead of Melo. I think some may have taken the broken hand into consideration, but also really giving props to The King of Park Hill and the way he has changed this team.

I do believe that both Melo and Billups have an outside shot to be named to the All Star team.

Two Nuggets going to Phoenix? Probably wont happen, but would be nice!

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
