Melo Arrested
Sportsradio 104.3 The Fan is reporting that Carmelo Anthony was arrested around 4:00 AM this morning on suspicion of drunken driving.
Melo has done a good job of keeping his nose clean for the past couple of years, so let's hope that the investigation will reveal that he was not driving drunk, but I would imagine that something like this is a pretty open and shut case. Either he was over the legal limit or he wasn't. A court date has been set for some time in May.
A Denver Post article reports that Melo has apologized to the team and his fans through a statement.
Everyone is awaiting results form a blood test to determine his BAC.

Awesome
It seems like everytime Melo makes steps to improving his reputation something like this happens. Is this punishable, and if so how long do DUI cases take to go through the court system?

I am not sure about the legal ramifications
I believe this is his first arrest for a DUI. The Fan has been reporting what his court date is, but I keep missing it. It is sometime in May. Most likely the Nuggets will have been eliminated well before the court date. If they are still playing, I do not think it would be longer than a one day hearing. Either he was driving with a BAC over the legal limit or he wasn't.
I do not believe first timers get jail time, but I do not know for sure. I bet he gets a hfty fine, community sservice and probation.
This should not affect the Nuggets playoff performance unless:
- They make it past the first round.
- Have an away game scheduled the same day as his hearing.

No chance he gets jail time
Especially since it's his first time. The only way he could fight it is if his BAC was just barely over the legal limit in which case he could go to court and cite inaccuracies in the test caused him to be over. DUI's typically cost somewhere around $6,000 - $8,000 from what I've been told which is probably chump change to Melo. He may get community service and probation but we are talking about a multi million dollar athlete after all. I just hope Melo gets it someday, I really do.

Another disappointing side story to this
Is the fact that Melo was out at 4 a.m. drinking alcohol in the first place. I mean, we haven't wrapped anything up yet and we need to have our players (especially our best one) focused on the task at hand. I'm not saying these players should be choir boys and can't have fun from time to time but you gotta be kidding me. Makes you wonder how many times during the season Melo is out at 4 a.m. getting drunk doesn't it?
