2008-09 Game 6: Denver Nuggets vs Memphis Grizzlies Game Thread

Memphis Grizzlies at Denver Nuggets, Nov 9, 2008 6:00 PM MST

Game Notes

The Memphis Grizzlies come to the Pepsi Center tonight with a young exciting team.  They have a roster built to run, but so far have not been running and gunning with a pace factor in the middle of the pack.  Likewise the Nuggets have played at a slower pace this season, yet they are still second in the league only behind Mike D’Antoni’s New York Knicks.

Will tonight be the night both teams end up running like the wind?

The Grizzlies are a surprising 3-3 to start off the season and they have been getting very good play from rookies O.J. Mayo and Marc Gasol as well as the always spectacular Rudy Gay.  However, the Grizz are only 1-3 so far on the road and you would expect a veteran Nugget team to have little problem with them.

The Nuggets have not lost the season series to the Grizzlies since 1997-98 far enough back that fans in Vancouver thought they would have a team forever.  The Nuggets have treated the Grizz like fresh fish in cell block D.  winning 19 of the last 20 meetings in Denver.

Hopefully the Nuggets will give the Grizzlies more of the same treatment tonight.  Make sure you check out 3 Shades of Blue to get some blogging Memphis style.

Instead of running the clock out at the end of the first quarter

Balkman takes a three with 9 seconds left?

Horrible.

Everyone has been talking about how slender Melo looks

But I think he looks a little less explosive. He is definitely not as explosive as he was two seasons ago when he was in great shape.

When he is running he can jump very well

But from a standstill or off of only one step he is much more you and I. Well, I do not know how athletic you guys are so I will just say like me.

yeah man!

He’s the type of player that can make everyone else on his team much better.

We might be on to something here.

GO BRONCOS!!!

I am pretty impressed

They have some great young talent and Gasol gives them a presence in the paint they have been missing.

Just wondering if they can put it all together!

They have the talent…but so much talent in the Western Conference that decent teams can get left behind.

GO BRONCOS!!!

J.R. is going to explode from behind the three point line

and my bet it is against Cleveland, but I sure wish it would happen tonight.

this game should not be close....

But still only our 2nd game with Billups so they’ll continue to improve rapidly as the on-court chemistry improves.

GO BRONCOS!!!

Several of Chauncey’s passes have not been handled well or were missed altogether…that will happen less frequently as they grow accustomed to his style.

GO BRONCOS!!!

Our offense has suffered terribly this season. we look so lost, its just awful. melo and JR have no confidence. guys like d jones are keeping us alive

by joshhopp on Nov 9, 2008 8:08 PM MST reply actions

We need a huge offensive play...

a dunk or alley-oop to get these guys going.

GO BRONCOS!!!

At the time

I thought Millar and Love for OJ was better for wolves. I was wrong

That's a good win!

It’s good that we can win a game when our stars aren’t necessarily playing their best (again)!

GO BRONCOS!!!

Nice win guys

scrapped it out again.

our shooting needs to improve

have a good day/night!

Pretty good defense

Gotta give props to the nuggets defense in the second half. I can’t imagine last year’s team winning a game without making free throws, turning it over 20+ times, and not shooting particularly well.

STIFF LIST (as of 2/7 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. THE NUGGETS AT HOME
How is it possible that a Nuggets team with this much talent can be 7-5 at home?! Things have gotten so bad that fans are clamoring for J.R. Smith to return.

2. CARMELO ANTHONY
Kobe Bryant plays through any and all ailments. Melo uses any and ailments as an excuse not to play.

3. KEVIN LOVE
Just when the T'Wolves are looking better, Love stomps on Luis Scola and lands himself a two-game suspension.

4. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS
The 'Cats have lost 11 straight and are now 3-21 ... in the Eastern Conference! This is what happens when you let an underwear salesman with a Hitler mustache run your team.

5. MIKE BROWN
Dr. Bunsen Honeydew (Google it!) got himself a one-game suspension for making contact with a referee.
