2008-09 Game 9: Denver Nuggets at Boston Celtics Game Thread

Denver Nuggets at Boston Celtics, Nov 14, 2008 6:00 PM MST

The second night of a back to back brings the second straight game against a legitimate NBA finals competitor.

Any hopes of the Nuggets being a true contender last season were dashed in Boston.  The Nuggets were coming off of a loss on the road in a winnable game the night before (against the sorry New York Knicks) and they just got bludgeoned from start to finish by the Celtics. Those two games verified for me that my skepticism with all the Nuggets preseason talk was justified and I prepared myself for another playoff appearance and early exit.

I have seen enough of the Nuggets so far this season to believe enough in their new commitment to defense that no matter what happens tonight I will still retain some hope.  However, a blowout like last season where the Nuggets did not even compete would be very disappointing.

The Celtics have been toying with their competition this season and maybe it is just a way to keep things exciting for them.  In each of their last two home games they have fallen behind big in the first half and come back bigger in the second.  At some point they will falter the question is when?  Knowing the Nuggets history with the second night of back to backs it will probably not be tonight, but that is why they play the games.

Head on over to the unbelievably incredible Celtics Blog for some insight on the game from Boston’s side of the equation.

SO

I was so pissed I couldn’t watch this game live but I made sure I recorded it. I did all that for nothing because I came in and immediately deleted it. By the convo you guys had, it wasn’t the best game. And Lord knows I hate The Cavs, so this lost was the worst, at least for me. Hopefully we can do some damage to the reining champs.

Dont mean to rain on your parade but...

Is it me or is Melo doing worse without AI. Or is it just this first half.

Wow

Wonderful insight from ESPN:

“How can the Nuggets be playing such better D without their best defensive player Marcus Camby?”

Such a novel insight.

If I have to hear that

I rather it be on TNT. At least there I can see the douche bag that is Charlse Barkley

Great game, great win!

With Utah and Portland losing tonight, it’s been a great night for the Nugs

good win for the nuggets...this is a game

the nuggets would easily lose a year ago. They would be “too tired” from being on the road and playing three games in four nights. This is a positive sign especially with the way Nene and Martin have played early on. Good balance, good defense and timely plays. Yeah, its only one game but still, an impressive win nonetheless.

Hit it on the head Irish

Hopefully this carries over for other Denver/Colorado teams this weekend.

Sorry, everyone

I have been out and about the past couple of days and I am just watching the game now. It will probably be Sunday afternoon before I get a recap posted.

I hate the fact the Nuggets earned such a huge win and I have not been able to post about it promptly.

STIFF LIST (as of 2/7 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. THE NUGGETS AT HOME
How is it possible that a Nuggets team with this much talent can be 7-5 at home?! Things have gotten so bad that fans are clamoring for J.R. Smith to return.

2. CARMELO ANTHONY
Kobe Bryant plays through any and all ailments. Melo uses any and ailments as an excuse not to play.

3. KEVIN LOVE
Just when the T'Wolves are looking better, Love stomps on Luis Scola and lands himself a two-game suspension.

4. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS
The 'Cats have lost 11 straight and are now 3-21 ... in the Eastern Conference! This is what happens when you let an underwear salesman with a Hitler mustache run your team.

5. MIKE BROWN
Dr. Bunsen Honeydew (Google it!) got himself a one-game suspension for making contact with a referee.
