According to Jake Fischer, the Denver Nuggets are said to be pursuing swingman Doug McDermott in free agency.
The NBA free agency point guard carousel is getting ready to spin. Latest on Chris Paul, Kyle Lowry, Ben Simmons, Chicago’s big plans, the Knicks’ many options, and everyone’s favorite Lakers rumors @BR_NBA: https://t.co/zjchCNhiGs— Jake Fischer (@JakeLFischer) July 31, 2021
Fischer also mentions the New Orleans Pelicans and Phoenix Suns as teams that are pursuing McDermott along with Denver and his former team, the Indiana Pacers. McDermott is coming off a pretty sold season with Indiana in which he averaged 13.6 points per game and shot 38.8 percent from beyond the three-point line.
The Nuggets actually drafted McDermott 11th overall in the 2014 NBA Draft before trading him to the Chicago Bulls in a deal that netted Denver the rights to Gary Harris and Jusuf Nurkic. All three players turned out to have pretty solid careers and adding a player like McDermott could be a perfect depth move for the Nuggets.
At 6-foot-7, 225 pounds, McDermott could be the Nuggets back up small forward or power forward, which is a spot they could still use more depth. If Denver signed McDermott it could spell the end of JaMychal Green’s time with the Nuggets from a financial standpoint, unless they could make it work cap wise and wanted McDermott to be the back up small forward and Green to be the back up power forward or center.
Fischer also reported that Green is expected to have interest not just from the Nuggets but from the Pelicans and Minnesota Timberwolves once free agency begins.
