While the Denver Nuggets continue their expedition for playoff success, the Minnesota Timberwolves have been eliminated from the playoff race. In search of front office stability, Marc Stein of The New York Times is reporting that Nuggets assistant general manager Calvin Booth is a candidate linked to a possible job opening in Minnesota.

“Calvin Booth, a Denver executive who the Nuggets hired away from the Timberwolves before the 2017-18 season, is increasingly mentioned as a strong candidate to replace [Scott] Layden if [owner Glen] Taylor does make a change.”

As mentioned by Stein, Booth does have previous ties to Minnesota, and in makes sense that Taylor, an owner known for his interest in familiar faces, is keen to bring Booth back. Currently serving as the assistant GM under GM Arturas Karnisovas and president of basketball operations Tim Connelly, a move to general manager would be a considerable step up for Booth.

With the interest in Karnisovas from the Philadelphia 76ers, an opportunity Karnisovas reportedly turned down, it has become apparent that the Nuggets have built quite a front office. The wins have accumulated on the floor in no small part due to the decision making the Nuggets front office has made behind the scenes, drafting the majority of the current roster. Booth has certainly contributed to that, and while it would be a blow to Denver if he left, Nuggets fans should celebrate the culture and organizational structure that has been created organically through hard work and development.
