2007-2008 Game 77: Nuggets/Supersonics

I have not had a chance to watch the entire Kings game, but needless to say, the Nuggets took the win for granted.  The magnitude of that loss can not be minimized.  The Nuggets are still in decent shape as far as making the playoffs.  Golden State lost to New Orleans and Dallas is losing at Phoenix.  Last night's loss changed next week's game at Golden State from important to extremely vital.  If Denver's playoff hopes end up lying on a win at the Roaracle they will definitely have their hands full.

Tonight is another very winnable game, but Seattle has been playing well at home.  Denver obviously can handle the Sonics as proven by their 37 point average margin of victory.  Last nigh't loss has made this a must win game so it will be interesting to see how the Nuggets respond.

Leave your thoughts and comments below on tonight's game and I will get recaps on these two games tomorrow.

Sigh

Remember when Kevin Martin was maybe going to sit out last night's game?  Yeah... that would have been pretty nice, had it happened.

I feel sick...

I swear the Nuggets make me physically sick.

o0o and hopefully more people will join this site and talk during the game......just a thought.

Comments during the game

I'd love to contribute, but I don't live in Colorado so I can only watch games that make TNT or ESPN's schedules.  I agree with what you're saying though- I wish people who are able to watch the games would stop by and leave their thoughts so people like me could read them.  There's only so much information I can get from gamecast.

No reason not to win big tonight

The Sonics are, simply put, a very bad basketball team and the Nuggets should be steamed about last night's loss to the Kings. I expect Iverson to have a big game after deferring to Melo much of last night and having K-Mart back tonight certainly doesn't hurt. I say we win this one 120-96 with Melo and Iverson each scoring above 30.

by RyanBuff on Apr 6, 2008 6:43 PM MDT reply actions

Doubling Durant a lot early

Not sure if I like it. It's leaving a lot of open shots for his teammates.

by RyanBuff on Apr 6, 2008 7:28 PM MDT reply actions

31 points in a quarter to the Sonics = not good

Good thing we scored 36. The Sonics went into a 3-2 zone at the end of that quarter which kind of stifled our offense a bit. Gotta get to the middle of that zone! Melo's jump shot is looking sweet right now though.

by RyanBuff on Apr 6, 2008 7:37 PM MDT reply actions

Atrocious defensive stretch to open the 2nd

10 points in 2 minutes to the Sonics. Happens all too often with this team.

by RyanBuff on Apr 6, 2008 7:42 PM MDT reply actions

It's not pretty

I've got some stuff to do but I'll do my best to keep describing the action.

by RyanBuff on Apr 6, 2008 8:00 PM MDT up reply actions

Iverson struggling shooting

He just can't seem to get in any kind of offensive rhythm right now. We're playing like hell again defensively. Not a good combo. Hopefully the Sonics suckitude will allow us to pull this out.

by RyanBuff on Apr 6, 2008 7:49 PM MDT reply actions

Lol suckitude

Better to win because the other team sucks than to win because your good, thats what I always say.

by Kay on Apr 6, 2008 8:04 PM MDT up reply actions

Um

Ok, so I'm guessing there's going to be a lot of missed free throws in this game, or is it just me.

by Kay on Apr 6, 2008 7:56 PM MDT reply actions

We've missed 7 already I believe

The Sonics have only shot 2 as a team so far.

by RyanBuff on Apr 6, 2008 7:59 PM MDT up reply actions

Another great display of defense from the Nuggets

Going from giving up 31 in the first Q to 39 in the second Q to the Sonics no less. I really am not sure what to say about that......

by RyanBuff on Apr 6, 2008 8:11 PM MDT reply actions

Down 11

If I don't post as frequently don't worry, I'll probably just be at my toilet puking.

I cant find...

by Kay on Apr 6, 2008 8:36 PM MDT reply actions

Thank God for AC

He is really keeping us in it right now.

by RyanBuff on Apr 6, 2008 8:40 PM MDT reply actions

4th Q time

Better pull this one off Nuggets.

by RyanBuff on Apr 6, 2008 8:54 PM MDT reply actions

Obviously I'm not watching

But I have a good feeling about this one.  It feels like the kind of game they'll put away midway through the 4th.  Considering the opponent, why they didn't put it away midway through the 2nd or 3rd is anyone's guess.

by LarryB303 on Apr 6, 2008 9:01 PM MDT reply actions

All tied up

3:23 to go. Way too close of a game against the Sonics. Way too close.

by RyanBuff on Apr 6, 2008 9:15 PM MDT reply actions

It's crunch time in a must-win game

Who do you want shooting jumpers?  Anthony Carter, of course!

by LarryB303 on Apr 6, 2008 9:18 PM MDT reply actions

Especially against poor teams

If this were the Spurs, Jazz, Celtics, Pistons, Hornets, Suns etc... that'd be one thing, but the Sonics? C'mon.

by RyanBuff on Apr 6, 2008 9:24 PM MDT up reply actions

Unbelievable. OT against the Sonics

I almost want the Nuggets to just put me out of my misery tonight so I can focus on the Rockies and the offseason. But then again, no I don't. Please just win.

by RyanBuff on Apr 6, 2008 9:28 PM MDT reply actions

Are you kidding me

I don't even understand why I like the Nuggets.
They hardly ever get stops, tonight the just CANT.

Go Home Team Knicks!!!!!!!!!!

by Kay on Apr 6, 2008 9:33 PM MDT reply actions

Melo steppin up

Now please, please, please gets some fricken stops! Defense guys, defense.

by RyanBuff on Apr 6, 2008 9:33 PM MDT reply actions

Iverson!

Hittin a 3. That was HUGE. Iverson always comes up big down the stretch. He can really seize the moment cant he?

by RyanBuff on Apr 6, 2008 9:35 PM MDT reply actions

omg

really? this is completely ridiculous.

by RyanBuff on Apr 6, 2008 9:41 PM MDT reply actions

I know he didnt just

I KNOW THE ROOK DIDNT JUST DO THAT....NOPE I REFUSE TO BELIEVE THIS I DONT CARE.......

by Kay on Apr 6, 2008 9:41 PM MDT reply actions

I don't mean to be too cynical

But watching this game as a Warriors fan would be amazingly fun.

by LarryB303 on Apr 6, 2008 9:43 PM MDT reply actions

You could equate it to

A Rockies fan watching the Pads and Mets struggle down the stretch last year, especially the Padres-Brewers series.

by RyanBuff on Apr 6, 2008 9:49 PM MDT up reply actions

Wait a minute here

2.3 seconds left and we go to K-mart for a 3 to win the game? Huh? Can someone explain that logic to me please? Why not just let the 2.3 seconds run out and go to a 2nd ot.

by RyanBuff on Apr 6, 2008 9:45 PM MDT reply actions

Ok

So we're in double over time with a team we beat by 52pts, only in Nuggtopia.

by Kay on Apr 6, 2008 9:47 PM MDT reply actions

They cant

Make stops, shoot free throws, stop, play d, stop, beat teams under 500, stop, make clutch threes, stop, not lose to teams under 500, ect

by Kay on Apr 6, 2008 9:57 PM MDT reply actions

Laughingstocks of the league (besides the Knicks)

How do you miss the playoffs with this roster?  By losing games like this one.

by LarryB303 on Apr 6, 2008 10:00 PM MDT reply actions

R.I.P 07-08 season

We just lost to the team we beat by 52 points in our last meeting, a team that has lost 16 of its last 17 and has arguably one of the worst rosters in the entire league in front of a scarce crowd. There is no way in hell we belong in the playoffs. Lets start focusing on the offseason and ways we can improve our team because I have a very good feeling this current roster/coach will not be back for  the next campaign. Can these Nuggets go down as one of the most disappointing in all of professional sports? I say yes.

by RyanBuff on Apr 6, 2008 10:03 PM MDT reply actions

The weird part about it

Not to keep bringing up the imagined perspectives of other fans, but think about watching this game as a Sonics fan.  "Wow!  Durant is so incredible!  He simply wouldn't let us lose tonight!  Oh yeah... and he's going to be gone from our town forever well before he hits the prime of his career."

by LarryB303 on Apr 6, 2008 10:08 PM MDT reply actions

Never been more disappointed

With one of my professional sports team in my entire life. I really can't think of another time. This is just unbelievable.

by RyanBuff on Apr 6, 2008 10:14 PM MDT reply actions

::Errrrr::

I'm at a lost of words, this isn't what I signed up for.
The most I can say is Go Nuggets 08-09!!!!

P.S.
If you think about it, they weren't going to make noise in the playoffs anyway.

by Kay on Apr 6, 2008 10:16 PM MDT reply actions

No they weren't

The scary thing is they could still make it and they will get absolutely smoked. But I highly, highly, highly doubt we win in GS. There's just no way. What is everyone's list for players they want gone next year? I'll start: George Karl, Kleiza, Iverson (more for salary reasons), Nene, Camby and Carter.

by RyanBuff on Apr 6, 2008 10:25 PM MDT reply actions

Karl for sure

Kleiza I guess, but he can't shoulder much of the blame because he's not really responsible for much.  Iverson for salary reasons I agree with.  Camby, yes, depending on what we can get for him.  (Should have dealt him last offseason, although when Nene went down we would have been hosed.)  Carter, obviously.  But Nene?  I'm not sure I agree.  First of all, he's probably untradable with that contract anyways.  But even if we could, why not at least see what the guy can offer when he plays a full season before we write him off as not worth keeping?

by LarryB303 on Apr 6, 2008 10:40 PM MDT up reply actions

Alright I take that back

Nene would be stupid to trade. I didn't think that one out very well. If you got rid of Camby you'd kind of have to keep Nene around anyway. I just hope he can stay healthy because he was a force down the stretch last year.

Great Job You Guys! (and Gal)

I was thrilled to see that you all were commenting during the game last night.  I wish I could have taken part.

My laptop cord is broken and I had no power or else I would have been there with you.

Hopefuly you all will have started a trend and we can all comment with each other from here on out.

Way to go and thanks for reading!

by Jeremy on Apr 7, 2008 11:51 AM MDT reply actions

I will be here

Just as long as there are others to comment with.

by RyanBuff on Apr 7, 2008 12:54 PM MDT reply actions

Count me in

If I can find a way to watch the game when its not on TNT, ESPN or NBA TV. But I usually do.

o0o and thanks for the Gal

by Kay on Apr 7, 2008 2:46 PM MDT reply actions

I'll be here too...

I don't think things could possibly get much worse than last night, so these little conversations should be all uphill from here.

STIFF LIST (as of 2/7 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. THE NUGGETS AT HOME
How is it possible that a Nuggets team with this much talent can be 7-5 at home?! Things have gotten so bad that fans are clamoring for J.R. Smith to return.

2. CARMELO ANTHONY
Kobe Bryant plays through any and all ailments. Melo uses any and ailments as an excuse not to play.

3. KEVIN LOVE
Just when the T'Wolves are looking better, Love stomps on Luis Scola and lands himself a two-game suspension.

4. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS
The 'Cats have lost 11 straight and are now 3-21 ... in the Eastern Conference! This is what happens when you let an underwear salesman with a Hitler mustache run your team.

5. MIKE BROWN
Dr. Bunsen Honeydew (Google it!) got himself a one-game suspension for making contact with a referee.
