Denver Nuggets: Free Agent News

Wilson Chandler meeting with Nuggets today

Wilson Chandler will be in Denver today and at the Nuggets game tonight.

According to Benjamin Hochman (Hooch) on his twitter, Wilson Chandler is in town and will be meeting with the team today. Chandler will also be attending tonight's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves at Pepsi Center.

The Nuggets have a good shot at signing Chandler to a reasonable contract. The only wildcard would be the Toronto Raptors if they offer ridiculous money. Is this the move the Nuggets need to break from their doldrums?

Stein: Wilson Chandler plans early U.S. return

Could Wilson Chandler be coming back to the Nuggets earlier than expected?

According to ESPN.com's Marc Stein, Wilson Chandler plans to fly back to the U.S. this next week if all goes well. Apparently, according to sources, Chandler has been given permission to leave if he so chooses after getting his team into the playoffs. It is not clear if the Chinese Basketball Association will grant his early waiver to FIBA even if Chandler flies home next week.

Also, if granted a clearance, this opens up Chandlers options slightly because he is arriving before the March 1st deadline for other NBA teams to extend an offer sheet - opening up the increased possibility of signing for the rest of the season for the Nuggets, then pursuing unrestricted free agency after the year is through.

Denver Nuggets Lineup Changes With Nene And Mozgov Out

Photo

(SB Nation Denver, Russ Oates) Denver Nuggets head coach George Karl confirmed on Tuesday that the team will be without Nene and Timofey Mozgov for the night's game against the Phoenix Suns.

Kosta Koufos has been starting in Mozgov's place, on occasion, since the ankle injury while rookie Kenneth Faried has seen increased playing time in February as a result of Nene's injuries -- this time a calf strain. Faried had 8 points and 10 rebounds against the Golden State Warriors a couple of games ago, both career highs.

Nuggets add defensive minded DeMarre Carroll

DeMarre Carroll joins his third NBA team; having played for the Memphis Grizzlies (pictured) and Houston Rockets.

The Milwaukee Bucks matched the Nuggets offer on defensive ace Luc Mbah a Moute. Back to the drawing board, the Nuggets added a cheaper option, but a skilled defensive player in DeMarre Carroll out of Missouri (Josh Kroenke's Alma mater). After playing in 71 games as a rookie during the 2009-10 season, Carroll appeared in just 12 games last season with the Memphis Grizzlies and Houston Rockets.

Sunday NBA rumor mill

Denver Nuggets rookie guard Cory Higgins drives into rookie guard Julyan Stone during the first day of NBA basketball training camp in Denver, Friday, Dec. 9, 2011.

Not much news to report on the Denver Nuggets front, perhaps a possible trade for Philadelphia 76ers forward/center Marreese Speights if Nene isn't re-signed, reported by David Aldridge. The team opened training camp Friday (Dec. 9) evening and still have roster spots available. The Milwaukee Bucks matched the Nuggets offer on forward Luc Mbah a Moute, Nene is still on the market along with Arron Afflalo, and in a bizarre move - the Lakers gifted Lamar Odom to the Dallas Mavericks. Yes, the same Mavericks who swept the Lakers in the playoffs last season.

UPDATE: NBA Free Agency 2011: Nuggets extend offer to RFA Luc Mbah a Moute

Atlanta Hawks Josh Smith, right, stalls his drive against Milwaukee Bucks forward Luc Richard Mbah a Moute.

Well, he's not Nene Hilario or Arron Afflalo, but Luc Mbah a Moute is a former UCLA product, 25 years-old, and a 2008 second-round pick by the Milwaukee Bucks - where he has played the past three seasons. A restricted free agent, the Nuggets have signed Moute to a four-year, $19 million offer sheet, according to the Denver Post. The Bucks have three days to match or let 6'8'' small forward become a Nugget.

Update: Bucks expected to match Nuggets deal and keep Moute, according to NBA.com writer Scott Howard-Cooper.

NBA Rumors: Nene back to Denver, Chandler to NY

Belief around NBA is Nene coming back to Nuggets

Another crazy day in the NBA rumor mill! On the same day baseball star Albert Pujols elects to leave the St. Louis Cardinals for the Anaheim Angles ... NBA news is starting to break that center Tyson Chandler is close to agreeing to a deal with the New York Knicks (4 years, $60M) and the Houston Rockets are still searching for a center as they believe Nene is heading back to Denver to re-sign with the Nuggets.

STIFF LIST (as of 2/21 by Jeff Morton)

1. OFFICIALS AT THE NUGGETS VS T-WOLVES GAME
In a short time frame the Nuggets went from up 9 points, to trailing by 3 points largely due to strange and downright erroneous calls from officials. Included in their greatest hits? Corey Brewer getting blocked out into the first row and somehow getting a foul called on him. Andre Millerbeing ejected for arguing a call where he was pummeled by Martell Webster and drew an offensive foul. Also, Luke Ridnour falling on his face and somehow drawing a foul. Nice going refs.

2. GEORGE KARL'S END OF GAME COACHING
In a very winnable game against the Thunder, your coach of the Nuggets decided to burn his two oldest players (Al Harringtonand Andre Miller) from the 8 minute mark of the third quarter, through the end of the game. Leaving them dead legged for overtime. Also, not subbing in defensive rebounders for Durant's last couple shots of regulation was a bit of a blunder. Gotta get better coach!

3. ROYCE YOUNG
Reading this article on CBSSports.com makes me wonder if good old Royce is secretly a Thunder fan ... oh wait. He also writes for Daily Thunder, the Oklahoma City Thunder's biggest blog. Go figure!! Listen Royce, dismissing that the Nuggets were down their two best players, and then using this game to prove a point about the Nuggets is a bit ... I dunno ... "salty". Don't you agree?

4. THE "INJURED ANKLE LEPRECHAUN"
What is the appropriate sacrifice we need to beseech this malevolent leprechaun who has cursed the Nuggets. Ty Lawson and Arron Afflalo both injured their ankles on Monday night. In addition to Danilo Gallinari being out with a severe ankle sprain and Timofey Mozgov just coming back from one himself. Listen, if you need me to get a goat I will.

5. FEBRUARY
Seriously? Can we be done with this month already? Time for March. Green beer and an incredibly easy Nuggets schedule. Can't get here soon enough.
