Denver Nuggets: Extras
Off Topic Friday: It's the Heat vs. ???
Three of the four Conference Finals teams have been determined. The Thunder, Spurs, and Heat have all secured spots to play for the NBA Finals. Miami, shorthanded, defeated the Indiana Pacers in six games winning Game 6 last night 105-93. Dwyane Wade scored 41 points and LeBron James added 28 points of his own. The Pacers balanced attack (all five starters had 11 points or more) couldn't send the series to a Game 7, like the 76ers. Saturday the Sixers and Celtics will play Game 7 and the Western Conference Finals begin Sunday!
Off Topic Tuesday: Oklahoma City wins ... then loses
The Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Los Angeles Lakers last night, completing a 4-1 series victory and earning them the right to play the red-hot San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Finals. The good citizens of OKC then proceed to go "shooting" to celebrate their hard earned victory to earn them a WCF birth. Not the championship mind you, just a trip to the WCF ... which they were in last season.
According to Pro Basketball Talk (thanks to Throwitdownbigmanthrowitdown for the article tip) even a pregnant woman was attacked in "celebration" of their advancement to the WCF ... again, not the championship. This is not ok under any circumstances, and as we know Denver has is fair share of riots after Broncos Super Bowl victories or your average CU/CSU football game at Mile High Stadium (cough...tear gas...cough).
Yet, I'd like to take this opportunity to tell the good people of OKC to maybe save their "shooting" for gun ranges, or maybe just go out and get, you know, HAPPY. Not shoot people.
As for the Thunder basketball team. Congrats on advancing. Your reward is a giant steam engine known as the San Antonio Spurs. This series should be ... epic. I'm very much looking forward to it.
Off Topic Wednesday: Spurs grab early 1-0 lead over Clippers
Off Topic Tuesday: Come to Jake's for Game 5 and the CSG Guys
Tonight the Nuggets face playoff elimination at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. What better way to watch the Nuggets fight for their playoff lives than to hang out with a bunch of Stiffs at Jake's Food and Spirits at 3800 Walnut Street? Who is Jake anyway?
Head down a little early because from 8-8:30 p.m. the Colorado Sports Guys will be doing a little Nuggets trivia, where you could win some random prizes!
Come on out for Stiffs Night Out where we'll be talking about the chances that the Spurs (swept the Jazz) and Clippers (up 3-1 vs. the Grizzlies) will meet in Round 2, what else could happen to Al Harrington, and cheer on the Nuggets against the hated Lakers!
Off Topic Sunday: Mayweather, Diaz both big winners
The night before Game 4 between the Nuggets and Lakers, was a big fight night. Floyd Mayweather kept his undefeated record intact by besting Miguel Cotto to move to 43-0. Floyd now has a piece of the 154-pound title and claimed Cotto was the, "toughest guy I ever fought." Which is because Mayweather has been ducking Manny Pacquiao until Pac-Man is out of his prime, the classic "Money" Mayweather move. Now Floyd is off to jail and the mega fight continues to be a fight fan's dream. And nothing against Justin Bieber, but I couldn't resist the picture of Floyd and the Biebs - too funny.
Always competing with boxing - the UFC put on a free fight card on Fox featuring Nate Diaz and Jim Miller. Diaz won the fight with a second round submission and should now get a shot at the lightweight title. It took me a little while, but I'm a big fan of the Diaz Brothers (Nick and Nate).
The Nuggets have a big fight of their own ... tip-off is just hours away!
Kiz takes aim at George Karl ... again
Denver Post columnist Mark Kiszla offers up another scorching piece on Nuggets head coach George Karl. In it he talks about Karl's playoff record in Denver (just 6-26 in seven of the last eight post-seasons), how Karl apologists keep reminding him to be nice to the coach, and he talks about Karl vs. Mike Brown. Very interesting article, give it a read.
Off Topic Tuesday: Mavs in trouble, down 0-2 to Thunder
After Game 1 when the Thunder won on a last second jumper by Kevin Durant (a shot that needed a favorable bounce to find its home), I thought the Mavericks would be deflated in Game 2. Dallas came out last night and played very well, but still lost 102-99 as Oklahoma City out-executed them down the stretch again. What must Jason Kidd and Company do to get back up and into this series now that it's headed to Dallas? Checkout what Mavs fans think, click here. Discuss that and whatever else you like, after the jump ...
