The Nuggets find themselves at the outset of a six-game, season long, road trip. Things get under way tonight in Indiana where Denver will face an 0-2 Pacers team featuring high scoring star Danny Granger and a couple familiar faces in Dahntay Jones and Earl Watson. Oh, and Denver will have arguably the best player in the NBA going as well ... Carmelo Anthony.

What's the kid going to do for an encore? We'll quickly find out tonight how Ty Lawson, Carmelo Anthony and the rest of the Nuggets respond to their emotional opening night victory over the Utah Jazz. The Nuggets travel to the Rose Garden tonight to face their division rivals, the Portland Trail Blazers, in the Nuggets first back-to-back of the season.

Unlike our competitors in Los Angeles who hoisted up their 10th NBA Championship (in Los Angeles, 15th for the franchise) last night, our Nuggets will be hosting up a different type of banner tonight: our franchise's sixth division title.  Whee!

The Nuggets wrap up the preseason tonight in a rematch with the Lakers. George Karl had this to say in the Denver Post today about last night's game: "I thought our defense was pretty first-class for most of the game," Karl said. "And I thought our offense stunk." The regulars should see reduced minutes tonight and Karl plans on playing J.R. Smith a lot (it'll be the last we see of Smith for a while.) The game will be in my second favorite city, San Diego, as the Nuggets wrap up their California Tour.

The Nuggets are in Anaheim tonight to face the Los Angeles Lakers in the first game of a back-to-back with the defending champions. Game two of the "California Tour" will take place Friday October 23rd in San Diego. I'm not quite sure if these last two preseason games are for the players or for the vast number of Californians who want to see the purple and gold live ... either way we'll get to see the Nuggets twice on national TV. Tonight's game is on TNT ... so tune in and take a peek at your Nuggets before the regular season kicks off in just a matter of days.

The Nuggets get their first look at the lowly Timberwolves at Pepsi Center tonight.  With Wolves sophomore star out due to hand surgery, point guard draftee Ricky Rubio remaining in Europe and Al Jefferson bothered by an assortment of ailments, this game is going to be awful.

Our Nuggets will get an up close view of just how good Greg Oden and the Trail Blazers are looking thus far when they meet at the Rose Garden tonight.

The Denver Nuggets have not lost a game to a non playoff team yet this season.  They demolished the Toronto Raptors in the first meeting in Denver by 29 points.  The Raptors are 4-12 over their previous 16 games.  All signs point to a Nugget win tonight.

The thing that always scared me about playing against Toronto is their dangerous shooters such as Anthony Parker, Jason Kapono, Jose Calderon and even Carlos Delfino was a good weapon from long range last season.  You could not rotate quick enough to cover all of them and it seemed like whoever was open would make you pay. 

Well, this year has been different.  Anthony Parker and Jason Kapono have not been shooting the ball anywhere near their previously lofty standards.  Calderon is still a very good shooter, but he always looks to set his teammates up first.  Delfino is completely out of the picture as he is playing in Russia this season.

The one thing that scares me is the Nuggets propensity to let struggling teams build confidence early in games.  Toronto still has plenty of shooters who can light you up.  As we have pointed out recently Denver has not been playing very well defensively lately, but Toronto is a team that could help them get back on track.  Kenyon matches up well with Chris Bosh, at least as well as can be expected, Nene is listed as questionable with his neck strain and that means Chris Andersen will probably start.  Jermaine O’Neal has a slight advantage there as he should be able to get some room to shoot his nice midrange jumper with Andersen sagging off with the hopes of notching a block.  Carmelo Anthony should be able to handle Joey Graham as long as he stays in front of him and boxes out.

Denver is in good shape on the perimeter as well.  In the first game George Karl chose to put Dahntay Jones on Calderon and Jones did a great job of frustrating Calderon and playing physical with him.  The reason the Nuggets could get away with that matchup is because Parker is a smaller shooting guard and Chauncey matches up with him very well.  It will be interesting to see if Karl employs the same strategy tonight.

I have not been impressed with the intensity the Nuggets have played with following losses lately and I can only hope that tonight is different.
