The Nuggets were impressive in beating the Pelicans on Wednesday night

Stat

Can you believe this very team was located in Vancouver, British Columbia a mere 12 years ago?

I’m not going to wast everyone’s time re-writing a preview for a team the Nuggets faced a mere handful of games ago. We all know the basics as the Memphis Grizzlies are fighting for their playoff lives with the Phoenix Suns and Dallas Mavericks in one of the more compelling playoff races we have seen for awhile. Also, we know that the famous “Timofey Mozgov end of game three point shot/ball not hitting rim on free throw” thing happened in the last game.

The Nuggets gave a more spirited effort in that game against the Grizzlies, but were done in by the play of the omnivorous Zach Randolph and lack of equivalent talent. Was a better game though and it pointed toward the effort the Nuggets would give against the New Orleans Pelicans the very next day.

While scanning YouTube a couple weeks ago I came across a video of the 1999 Nuggets playing the then Vancouver Grizzlies featuring Mike Bibby and Bryant “Big Country” Reeves. Good god I forgot about that mountain of a man who was a passable basketball player. That aside, it featured the great play of Antonio McDyess and clutch shots from Chauncey Billups. In fact, it was a career high night for one Dyess-man who posted 46 points and 19 rebounds in a dominating performance. Oh what could have been right? Dice was one of my favorite Nuggets players of all time, and he was one of the most loyal until the Nuggets traded him for the second time. Oh well.

Anyway, enjoy the video and the walk down memory lane. Y’all who are too young and don’t remember the McDyess who could jump out of a building and had a sweet turnaround jumper then this is for you (I’d describe Dice’s game as somewhere between young Amare Stoudemire and LaMarcus Aldridge). Also a young Chauncey Billups (second year in the league) doing his thing next to Nick Van Exel. Mike D’Antoni as coach. What a trip.

Nuggets of Wisdom

Nothing much to say other than it’s nice to see Kenneth Faried excelling on offense lately. It’s a great development but I’m still very skeptical of Faried as a player. We shall see. As was discussed in yesterday’s game recap, the debate about giving Faried an early extension rages on. There are multiple factors going on, and will loom over the Nuggets for this next season if they don’t give him an early extension this off season.

Go Nuggets.
