Danilo Gallinari on CBS4 Monday

Danilo Gallinari was on CBS4's Xfinity Monday Live (yep...that's what it's called) surrounded by many Italian's and Italian Americans who live in Denver. Was a mostly fluff show, but it did provide some nice tid bits about Gallo adjusting to life in Denver, and what he envisions the Nuggets will do for the rest of the year.

Most importantly however, Gallo said he expects to be out for one more week "at the most". Which is good news for Nuggets fans. Follow the above link to watch the segments.

Nuggets NEED him back desperately, this much is clear. Hopefully the Nuggets can hit the ground running when they open the second half tomorrow against Portland.

I admit that I like Dragic

Plus Houston has a boatload of point guards. I just think we need to move Dre. I like Stone but I don’t want a 6’6 point guard

Nuggets All Day Everyday

by TheMozgovCocktail on Feb 28, 2012 4:32 PM MST up reply actions

Plus Dragic would be a solid backup point guard

if we decided to trade dre for a pg in return

Nuggets All Day Everyday

by TheMozgovCocktail on Feb 28, 2012 4:33 PM MST up reply actions

And to tie the two topics together

We need to trade Dre and play Gallo in crunch time, EVERY TIME when he gets healthy. We need to stop hiding behind vets (or AAA???) This team only succeeds at the highest level if Ty and Gallo develop into stars. That will only happen if GK lets them. A step in that direction would unfortunately be cutting ties with Dre.

by RoxWS2014 on Feb 28, 2012 4:31 PM MST up reply actions

That's why we need to trade Dre

We need to have AAA and Gallo both out there in crunch time. They are making the big bucks so let them prove why Masai signed them to all that money

Nuggets All Day Everyday

by TheMozgovCocktail on Feb 28, 2012 4:35 PM MST up reply actions

AAA is a great piece for our team

Good defender, knows his role. I know there aren’t many better options in free agency either, so I don’t blame Masai for overpaying. I do think some fans need to temper their expectations for AAA. He will never average anywhere close to 20 ppg, not even 15. His upside is lacking, but as long as he hits the open shots he takes and continues to be our best perimeter defender, I can’t really complain. And yes, I ’ll take him in crunch time over a 2nd PG any day.

by RoxWS2014 on Feb 28, 2012 4:39 PM MST up reply actions

I was just saying trade Dre

and have AAA and Gallo both on the court in crunch time because I want both of them out there, but as long as dre is still here, one of them will be riding the bench in crunch time

Nuggets All Day Everyday

by TheMozgovCocktail on Feb 28, 2012 4:43 PM MST up reply actions

I hear ya

Dre and Ty will both be on the court regardless during crunch time

by RoxWS2014 on Feb 28, 2012 4:54 PM MST up reply actions

It is

I don’t think it’s fair for the fans to claim Ty can’t run the offense. His role is to play shooting guard half the time! And if they watched him in college they’d know he can do it with the right system – just like any PG. Look at Nash. He didn’t come close to what he is now until he went to D’antoni’s system. Or Dre Miller who peaked before playing for Karl….

by RoxWS2014 on Feb 28, 2012 5:12 PM MST up reply actions

I'm a big Ty supporter myself

I was a little hard on the guy but then I realized he really isn’t being allowed to be the number one PG for this team. I truly think he’s the future for us and we should move Dre immediately.

I did not understand the draft day trade. Miller should have stayed in Portland. He fit their scheme. I don’t know why they moved him. Ray Felton kinda fitted our system. He wasn’t the best backup pg for us, but he could push the pace. I was not too thrilled with the draft day trade

Nuggets All Day Everyday

by TheMozgovCocktail on Feb 28, 2012 5:25 PM MST up reply actions

Agreed

I think Felton was a much better fit, and didn’t like the draft day trade either… I don’t see what the rush was to move Felton either… we had him locked up through this year just like ‘Dre. ’Dre doesn’t fit what we do, I’m not sure Dragic does either though. I’m for getting a speedy PG who is strictly a backup, meaning he only plays 12 min. or so a game, ie a Telfair type.

by UKnowULovedVanQwik on Feb 28, 2012 6:25 PM MST up reply actions

Dre isn't a chucker

Ray is. It’s that simple IMO

by JBnuggs on Feb 28, 2012 6:28 PM MST up reply actions

but the second unit ran with felton

Miller slows the ball down. I will contend that Felton is a better shooter than Miller

Nuggets All Day Everyday

by TheMozgovCocktail on Feb 28, 2012 8:46 PM MST up reply actions

Not sure I like this trade.

Dragic had 1.5 good seasons backing up Nash, and Barbosa is a less efficient version of Monta Ellis (and Monte is no where near efficient).

I doubt we’re going to see any major changes to the roster this year, but I could be wrong.

Just don't hold on to the damn basketball!!!

by Russscot on Feb 28, 2012 4:50 PM MST up reply actions

Yea

I’d rather have Stone at PG, he might not be a good scorer but he does everything else well. Dragic is terrible on D. Barbosa is interesting but his best days are WAAAAAAAY behind him.

by JBnuggs on Feb 28, 2012 4:57 PM MST up reply actions

Well i like it

but that’s just me. I’m not a Stone lover like some of you. I will say this again I don’t want a 6’6 or taller point guard unless his name is Magic Johnson

Nuggets All Day Everyday

by TheMozgovCocktail on Feb 28, 2012 5:03 PM MST up reply actions

The dude is 6'6

He’s kinda sloppy with the ball. Sure he plays good d but the guy can’t score worth a lick! I want a backup pg who can fill it up if he had to

I like having a long, tall, ferocious defender who looks to pass 1st 2nd and 3rd as my backup PG, especially with our coaches infatuation with playing 2 pgs together.

Now let me get this straight: are you saying the Nuggets should TRADE MILLER?!

Just being silly about how many times you’ve repeated your desire in this thread. I’m 100% in agreement with you. Let’s hope it happens, but I do not believe it will. I think the FO is in Karl’s front pocket right now, and George loves Miller for his court savvy. Too bad, because Miller’s presence is holding this team back profoundly.

I was mad at first when he wouldn’t stay here but at least the guy let us know he wasn’t staying. At least he gave us the chance to get the best deal for him. Thank goodness we took the Knicks deal over the nets deal. He could have pulled a Lebron or Shaq when he left Orlando high and dry but Melo didn’t. I must begrudgingly agree

Its like the girlfriend you loved but she was just in a different place. You want to settle down and she’s still out there partying and having fun so she decides to dump you. Yeah it hurts, it sucks, its the worst feeling ever and god you just hate her soo much. Eventually though you realize what she did, that it was never going to work out, you just weren’t meant to be etc and you appreciate her for getting you out of it earlier rather than later.

With Melo it was the same. He wasn’t going to stay, and I hated him for it like a spurned lover. In the end though by giving us a heads up he did us a huge favor and the Nuggets didn’t get Mutumbo’d….again.

Wait a second. I'm getting an idea. No, false alarm. No. Yes! No. Yep. Nope, waaiiit, no. Yes. Yes. No. YES!!!!

by Nugonomics on Feb 28, 2012 6:50 PM MST up reply actions

I'm not mad about Melo wanting to leave, or even for the whole Melo-drama of last year.

What makes me upset is his disingenuousness in stating that he wanted to go to a situation where he would have a better chance of winning a championship. To take your analogy one step further, Melo “broke up” with us by stating that he just wasn’t ready to settle down. Then, after the break up, ended up marrying the ugly girl across the street with boatloads of money. If Melo had stated point blank that he wanted a bigger market to better spread his brand, I would have understood it, and accepted it, much better.

Just don't hold on to the damn basketball!!!

by Russscot on Feb 28, 2012 7:19 PM MST up reply actions

Just playing devil's advocate here.

It is possible that Melo actually believed it to be true. Maybe he had no faith in Karl to lead the team to a championship.

I will grant that it's possible,

but highly unlikely. I will also grant that he believed that by moving to NY, he would be able to attract high profile free-agents by combining with Stat. With that being said, I feel that if he really was most concerned with getting a championship, he would have been willing to sign with the Knicks in the off season for a discount, which would have let them keep at least Mozgov and Felton, and probably still be able to sign Gallo to an offer sheet next year. However, it’s clear that he let everyone who were looking at possibly trading for him know that he was going to get his payday, and would take a lesser team in a big market in order to do so (re:New Jersey).

Just don't hold on to the damn basketball!!!

I agree with you cat

Melo did see the Knicks as being able to contend for a title. Plus him and Karl had their differences. The New York front office screwed it this offseason by amnestying Chauncey and signing Chandler. I thought they should have kept Billups and made a run for Howard this offseason.

But he can do a extend and trade deal if he wants to.

The prohibition on over salary cap teams isn’t for three years. It would work out for Orlando because in addition to trading up to three years of salary off their books as soon as the extension is signed they also would permanently (life of extension) reduce their tax liability as their ‘bonus’ for the extension.

Howard has said that his preferred destination is New Jersery (!) so because of that and the fact that he could negotiate a better deal directly with New Jersey he probably will not do an extend and trade deal.

Seriously, here is a reason to respect Gallos game

If you buy into Hollingers power stats, which I do. You will see that Gallo is still ranked 3rd most efficient SF in the league. Considering he’s been gone for like a month what does that tell you.

by WintermuteAI on Feb 28, 2012 8:20 PM MST up reply actions

You guys ever read John Schuhmann from nba.com ?

I think he’s a good writer that calls it like it is. He’s make some pretty decent predictions as well. Unfortunately, he’s predicting the Nuggets don’t make the playoffs this year.

by WintermuteAI on Feb 28, 2012 9:06 PM MST reply actions

He doesn't say yet but he dropped us from 12 to 17th overall

Denver (18-17)
Pace: 97.4 (1), Off: 104.5 (6), Def: 102.0 (18)
A stat: The Nuggets are just 4-14 against the other nine West teams that are .500 or better, allowing 105.8 points per 100 possessions.
A question: When will they be healthy again?
A prediction: Even if they do get everybody back by mid-March, the Nuggets miss the playoffs for the first time since they drafted Carmelo Anthony.

by WintermuteAI on Feb 28, 2012 9:14 PM MST up reply actions

Thanks for the info

I know

I was saying like if we were in 12th place in the western conference and were quite a few games back of 8th. This is a deep draft so I wouldn’t mind a top 10 pick. Plus it’s a lotttery, you never know how it can shake out

Nuggets All Day Everyday

by TheMozgovCocktail on Feb 28, 2012 9:20 PM MST up reply actions

that's true that this draft is deep, but the superstars will be top 5

Davis, Drummond, Barnes, Perry, Beal, Sullinger. If i has a pick I’d go for the center Drummond or Tyler Zeller a little later on (also center). And the lottery has never been kind to the nuggs. Worst record in the league multiple times, never had higher than the #3 pick.

by TyLawesome on Feb 28, 2012 9:23 PM MST up reply actions

good point

maybe our luck will turn but hopefully we don’t have to worry about the lottery because we will be in the playoffs

Nuggets All Day Everyday

by TheMozgovCocktail on Feb 28, 2012 9:26 PM MST up reply actions

I've come to the realization, how many times can we play the thunder close

and then watch them pull away late when durant starts getting whistle after whistle? All of the stiffs see it as we are close with that team, we have a chance, but in reality we need to blow them out to prevent the refs from getting involved. Doubt we can do that 4 times in a playoff series, so then how do we do it? Going down and getting a guy like barnes or drummond who can get ref calls might be the only way.

by TyLawesome on Feb 28, 2012 9:30 PM MST up reply actions

they aren't going to get calls unless someone makes the all star team

and no one is going to make an all star team unless they play more aggressively selfish to put up huge stats, and that’s not going to happen on a deep team of high passing. It’s an ugly circle

More and more I think about this season

Perhaps missing heh playoffs would not be the larger issue. If it comes down to 7-8 seed again or just missing the playoffs. I’ll take missing the playoffs.

This team is far to talented to do so…but with the new and creative ways we’ve found to lose this season it would not suprise me. How many teams lose on tip ins, failed layups, or offensive fouls? I think I’d take 1% chance to be top 3 over 0% chance and seeing how cards lie as a road dog for 3 rounds. I know the lottery has never been kind to us…but it’s like the line from dumb and dumber “So you’re saying there’s a chance”

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
