GK

George Karl is a bad coach.. Ray Allen, Shawn Kemp, Gary Payton, Carmelo Anthony, there is a reason nobody liked playing for him. He needs to go, we can’t let this talented group of young players be ruined by the rookie hating George Karl.

by DENVER DYNASTY on Feb 22, 2012 11:26 PM MST reply actions

Karl needs to go now!

one positive I took away from this game is Jordan Hamilton. The guy really showed me something tonight. He can fill it up when given the chance. There were a couple of instances however when he passed up the open three. He probably was afraid that lame ass Karl would pull him. Anyways, way to go Hamilton. If he keeps playing like this, maybe we don’t need to overpay for Chandler

Amnesty Al? Why not just trade him?

He has to have some value … and if you think he should be gone it’d be better to get something rather than pay him to do nothing.

by Nate Timmons on Feb 22, 2012 11:43 PM MST up reply actions

Agreed

What can they honestly get for him tho? Can’t see them get more then an expiring to be honest. Which is still better then amnestying him.

by nugzin2040 on Feb 22, 2012 11:47 PM MST up reply actions

No value

Maybe we could get another bad contract and a late 1st, but thats pushing it. I dont even know if we could get an expiring.

by Monkfish on Feb 22, 2012 11:48 PM MST up reply actions

Not so fast

Harrington isn’t tradeable. Look at his contract. NBA executives are smarter than that. They are going to look at his whole career and the fact he is 33 and has 4 years left on as bloated deal from the last CBA.

He isn’t tradeable man. Nuggets were trying like hell to unload him last year with Melo.

I’m not really advocating trying to trade him, just noting how quick people are to say “amnesty” him. And he only has 3 years left on his deal and the last two are partially guaranteed, according to John Hollinger.

George Karl post game comments

“we failed to rebound aggressively in the 4th quarter and that affects our ability to run which is how we win.”

Its so weird I can’t even explain how I feel about these comments. He took out the guys who were rebounding and then its their fault because they weren’t in there to rebound?

The guy doesn't know how to put his players in a position to succeed

He sets them up to fail, then acts like they did it to themselves. Putting Al and Brew in there to box out Jordan and Griffin is the prime example of this. Yeah, just box out two guys that are way bigger and stronger then both of you, why couldn’t you do that simple task?

Harrington

or if you wanted to get crazy … take out Cold Al and put in Brewer or Hamilton.

We would have won because Stones afraid to shoot the ball so Maybe AAA would have made a few more attempts that Al would have missed scored a few more. Nuggets win.

And GK knows it. his ego is just too big to win in a logical manner. Pains me to say it, but Mozgov was horrific tonight.

His pick and role “defense” was not good. Well the Nuggets overall pick and roll defense wasn’t great. Didn’t understand why on the pick that Moz sort of shifted to cover Chris Paul, Arron Afflalo then came chasing Paul and nobody bothered to worry about Blake Griffin streaking to the basket. Must have got 8-10 points off that play.

Why didn’t Faried play more?

Why does Andre Miller play under the hoop and allow Randy Foye to shoot open threes?

Why didn’t George Karl bench Harrington and his awful shooting and even worse defense on Griffin? Faried played Griffin really well and Kosta Koufos looked fantastic …

All around a fumbled game with a chance to win it. Again …………….

Exactly

Love Karl as a coach, just not late in close games or for half court sets. And honestly he has blown so many late/close games recently I just dunno how much more of him I can take. Hard to argue that he isn’t part of the problem right now.

by Shaz_II on Feb 22, 2012 11:53 PM MST up reply actions

Nate, I agree on the P&R...

But I think it may be coaching. The Nuggets bigs all seem to be terrible on the P&R. It drives me crazy when Nene sags off when his man sets the pick and then the guard is running free in the lane. I always thought it was maybe just some laziness on Nene’s part, but it seems to be a trend with our bigs. If several guys are defending a play improperly that is coaching.

The most frustrating thing is that I can see the potential of this team, it hurts so bad to watch this debacle night after night. Injuries or not, this team has so much depth we should still be winning.

by Ampman54 on Feb 22, 2012 11:47 PM MST up reply actions

While I agree that it is somewhat coaching for sure, you could see Karl on the bench throwing his hands on his head when the ball went to Blake off one P&R, like he saw the play was blown as it was happening.

Was just very frustrating to watch as you KNOW that’s what CP3 wants to do … fire up the crowd with a slip pass to Blake for a dunk.

as much as it sucks to lose

we were fairly competitive for most of the game against a good clipper team (full strength minus billups plus martin) and we were down 4 of our best players (gallo, nene, ty and rudy).

that says something about how deep we are.

by nuggzfan on Feb 22, 2012 11:42 PM MST reply actions

Very good point. And many, including me, feel that if the game were managed a little different it would have been even more competitive down the stretch. No reason to keep playing Al when he was clearly, CLEARLY, out of it tonight.

by Nate Timmons on Feb 22, 2012 11:43 PM MST up reply actions

Not sure how you can expect anything different out of Karl at this point.

Late in close games we all know what is coming. The funny thing was when everyone was healthy he did sit some starters and play hot hands late in games, now it is all about his “trust guys” and killing the vets. It would be funny if we hadn’t just lost again because of it.

Unfortunately. Course the strategy has worked ok in the past… Al hit three big 3 pointers late in OKC for instance.

Yep, but then he stunk it up late defensively

That is the beauty of Offense/Defense late game substitutions. Something George Karl just cannot seem to grasp.

is gk teachable?

First three quarters: AAA is top scorer and team leader; Faried nearing another double/double and Hamilton is on fire. Crunch time.,Chris Paul is going nuts, AAA stays on the bench, Griffin is running amok; Faried stays on the bench, Al H can’t get the ball to the rim, hit a free throw or guard anybody so he plays last quarter and a half. Even the Clipper announcers are wondering why Harrington is still out there,
Tonight made it unmistakably clear that we must move Harrington and management team (direclty or through Hunt) must compel him to play people who are performing in the crunch, especially on defense. If he still doesn’t get it, the Karl era ends at the end of April.

Look we had no business being in this game and it went down to the 4th quarter

Hamilton looks like he is going to be an all-star. A 6-9 SG he will be, who can contest his rshot, he can drive, pass and rebound. Faried looks like a really good role player. Got to be excited about the future. Can’t help but think we should trade some of all talent and get a star caliber player, we may need to put rotations out of George’s hand. With all this talent, Karl has no idea of who to play and when.

We are tanking on purpose

If after 3/15 we will see what our team looks like? I expect now it is trade everyone, dump salary and get into this next MASSIVE draft!

Karl is on board and this was always the plan ever since Melo said he was leaving.

Please refute but it seems obvious to me!

by Rockridge1 on Feb 23, 2012 12:19 AM MST reply actions

Dude

as long as we have our young core, we’re going to win games and stay out of the lottery. Trust me, I WISH we could be in the lottery, but that’s not gonna happen.

by RoxWS2014 on Feb 23, 2012 12:25 AM MST up reply actions

I think we could still win this year

I am saying we are playing our veterans legs off to make stats look better trade them before the deadline. We will see what we look like in a few weeks. It is not our pick that we are seeking to improve. We will trade our boys to anyone for any pick in the next draft and use all those picks to move up for our “one” coveted guy.

That is the plan and has always been the plan. We Have someone we want next year and everything ismovingparts until we get there.

Winning early was a bonus. Now it is grow our young guys and get picks. No championship this year!

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
