Golden Nuggets: Waiting on the game

Not a lot going on here ... just waiting for the Nuggets at Clippers game this evening. Al Harrington talks with Benjamin Hochman about the team's recent losses against the Clippers and Grizzlies, read it all here. Did you hear J.R. Smith scored 60 points in the Chinese Basketball League the other night? He was 14-18 from beyond the arc, check out the video highlights here. Find a good hoops story or something a bit different? JR Smith

I’m not getting excited about him scoring 60 points in a chinese league playoff game. Let’s see what he does in the NBA playoffs

But its still 60 points

and 14-18 from beyond the arc. Even if it is a glorified practice, those are great numbers. He has also been showing a much improved crossover in china

Wow. Sure wish Melo was still a Nugget!

He’s on top of the list!

I am very interested in where JR ends up. Obviously with the team committed to Afflalo and Rudy bedding in reasonably well there doesn’t appear to be room here, but whichever team can put up with his headcasiness gets a guy who is pretty efficient, spaces the floor and can get his own shot.

i keep dancing on my own.

JR can create his shot (So can Wilson Chandler) Afflalo cannot.

I do wonder if Masai and Josh are looking into upgrading the SG position.

Atheist for Tim Tebow!

Wilson Chandler

With him coming back, we should maybe look to move Afflalo. I like the starting lineup of Ty, Chandler, Gallo, Nene, and Mozgov.

It is fine to have your SG be a spotup shooter

when your PG and SF can get their own shot like Gallo and Ty.

Chandler

I’m for him starting at SG over Afflalo. I don’t think Chandler will be content with coming off the bench.

I think the Nuggets overpaid Afflalo

but the reality is they are committed to him now, and he’s not really worth that much in a trade anyway ATM, so he’ll be a Nugget and probably playing significant minutes for the foreseeable future. So with that there is just not a lot of room in the rotation for Wilson.

i keep dancing on my own.

True

but still very sad

I still don't get the Chandler thing

sure he’s a good player, but he was playing with one foot out the door in last years playoffs. What would make you think he’s even considering playing here again? I’m guessing he signs his QO to be a UFA in the summer, or we sign and trade him (what I’m hoping for)

by JBnuggs on Feb 2, 2012 10:50 AM MST up reply actions

Chandler

What could we get for him if we trade him?

Nuggets All Day Everyday

by TheMozgovCocktail on Feb 2, 2012 10:53 AM MST up reply actions

maybe JB

but if he was signed here and got consistent minutes, he’d be fine. The trade was a shell shock for Will. I would guess and hope he’s over that esp after his experience playing in the People’s Republic

by sgiustra on Feb 2, 2012 10:56 AM MST up reply actions

As I understand it

Will wanted to start. Gallo is intrenched in the starting lineup…

One thing people need to consider Karl didn’t play Chandler and Gallo together very much last season. I’m not sure Chandler would translate to the 2 spot in Karl’s view (not saying he wouldn’t do it if the Nuggets traded AAA…but it’s unlikely from what I’ve seen). So the Nuggets are a bit stuck with trying to convince Chandler to come off the bench.

He is a restricted free agent, but I think Chandlers value is greater in a trade than on the Nuggets roster right now.

Chandler is the perfect size for a small forward … not totally sure he could thrive at the two spot in Denver defending quicker and smaller guys. Maybe though?

by Nate Timmons on Feb 2, 2012 2:49 PM MST up reply actions

I love the idea of Chandler coming back because

he has major physical talent and good skills.

And, if everything went well with AAA, Rudy and Al, then Will would not be needed but shit happens and Will could clean that up.

Exs? AAA has just not been right. Is he going to turn it around? Who knows.

Rudy has been up and down and, like AAA, there is always concern for his health.

Al has been great but I dont trust outside shooters who do little else because, if they are cold, they could be useless.

Afflalo

Maybe we package him and Chandler to New Orleans for Eric Gordon and Chris Kaman. It’s a crazy idea, but I wouldn’t be oposed to it.

surprising FIBA move

i wonder if there will be many season ending “injuries” for the China guys in the next couple of days, requiring them to return to the US.

I believe

the Magic also need either JR or Chandler. Their guards are NOT doing what they need to do. JR can shoot the 3 from a Howard kick out, and can get others open down there.

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
