Stiff List for 1-30-12 by Jeff Morton
- The Orlando Magic: After starting the season so well with the Dwight Howard trade drama (10-3) - the Magic have fallen apart (2-5 since) with embarrassing losses to the Celtics (twice), Hornets, and Pacers. Trade Dwight already!
- Chauncey Billups' flop vs. Nuggets: In the waning seconds of Sunday's game against the Clippers, Chauncey pulled off an acting performance so good it deserved an Academy Award. If he was still a Nugget we would love it, but he's not. STIFF!
- Jimmer Fredette: Dude, if you are going to take the game-winning shot, at least draw some iron: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNO1goJOruQ
- George Karl's 4th Quarter against the Clippers: Getting out coached by Vinny Del Negro should be a nice wake-up call. Going away from Gallo. Leaving Al Harrington in. Using Rudy Fernandez at point guard. And going ultra small contributed to the Nuggets loss.
- Jeff Morton: For saying that the Nuggets would skimp on payroll and go cheap like the Avalanche. Clearly I was wrong and deserve to be on this Stiff List. I can only hope that the gods of basketball forgive me.

I thought about putting myself at three

kudos to you for owning up Jeff
You had me scared all offseason! But you never did convince me. A successful instant rebuild-on-the-fly is unheard of, and I couldn’t believe the organization would just throw it away.

Does Kroenke buying the dodgers impact your thinking in this regard?

True...that COULD happen
I could also turn into a leprechaun and ride a purple unicorn to a far off land filled where people walk on their hands and hamburgers eat people.

If that happens
make sure you and the unicorn stop by SDcat on your way to the far off land.

What does Kroenke buying the Dodgers have to do with it?
you should have been on the stiff list since the day you claimed Kroenke to be cheap in regards to the Nugs. Not once has he shown to be cheap as a Nugget owner. He already owns a crap ton of sports teams, Arsenal still likely requires more money than the Dodgers, he won’t all of a sudden go cheapo on the Nugs. I’ve also heard from quite a lot of people who have worked at the Can for awhile that bball is his favorite sport, he wants an NBA title over all else I believe.

Orlando really does need to trade Howard.
I wonder where he will go. Reports out today saying he would now consider the Bulls.
What is the Magic’s best return for D12?
Bynum package?
Noah package?
Knicks poo-poo platter?
Nets package?

I still think the Lakers are the most likely place
They have pieces the Magic want. I think Otis Smith said he didn’t want to rebuild.

I am starting to think
that no one offers them a good enough deal and they keep Howard. He can’t sign an extension prior to free agency.

My thoughts on D12
I don’t see him being moved at all. I actually see Otis smith trying to trade away what he has now to get a younger, better ensemble around Howard. Jameer is done, j rich lost his touch, Turk forgot how to shoot, their bench is atrocious. The only decent player besides their ONLY center is Ryan Anderson.

My Lakers buddy says that he’s been hearing Bynum wont pass a physical with his repaired knee. Wonder if Orlando would waive a physical to get Bynum?

I agree,
but Howard finally said something about chicago-they have been the sleeping giant in the D12 saga.

Sort of disagree with #2....
…..I would not love a Nugget flopping. I may not hate it as much as an opponent doing so, but I HATE floppiing.

I'll join you on Number 5
I thought they would take the Avs model too… I guess Stan and Josh really do just like the Nuggets better unless they have something crazy planned like trading Varly Stastney, Barrie and Siemans for Carey Price and Tomas Plakanek or trading for an Ales Hemskey or Brendan Morrow…at this point nothing out of the Kronke camp would surprise me

I'm convinced they only took the Avs because of the stadium and TV station....
….I don’t even think Stan or Josh go to Avs games.

Sad but true. But all in all, KSE has a sweet deal going. Arena, TV station, ticket broker, two major teams and other minor ones, other holdings in the area including Dick’s and the Rapids …. holy cow, does any other NBA/NHL owner have such an incredible local monopoly going?

If only the Avs fans had a sweet deal going....

Yeah he also just bought a bar around the arena(now called Trunk, can't remember what it was before)
before ya know it he will be buying up Auraria campus and making it all one giant practice facility…
"Weltmeister!!" Zwei mal: 2010-2011...und weiter gehts
Not as often
but I assume KSE benefits from the Avs being a contender and is willing to spend a few more bucks(NHL is fairly cheap in comparison to NBA and EPL) to get bigger crowds again,
"Weltmeister!!" Zwei mal: 2010-2011...und weiter gehts
He needs a big name
that the fans will know… Morrow and Price are fairly big names… especially Price… it would be Roy 2.0

how about nba owners again?
this ludicrous schedule is already taking its toll. Tonight featured final scores of 74-69 and 83-73. These types of scores are becoming commonplace. I’ve said it before-if owners had any conscience at all they would lower ticket prices and give some money back to season ticket holders.

You had me trembling with your prediction
but I don’t think you’re a Stiff for it. You can be wrong and not be a Stiff. That said, you’re a Stiff FOREVER!
No. More. Stickyball.
