Masai Ujiri - GM of the Year

Herein I make my (simple) case for why Masai should be in the running for this award:

- Lost 3 players to China, all former starters/important rotation players (Smith, Martin, Chandler)
- Jettisoned Felton for Andre Miller (Felton is playing like garbage this year by all accounts)
- Acquired Rudy Fernandez and Corey Brewer, both now important rotation players, for only a second round pick
- Picked Kenneth Faried and Jordan Hamilton in the draft, acquired Julyan Stone as undrafted rookie
- Extended Nene, extended Afflalo, extended Gallinari, extended Koufus, all with reasonable contracts

Most teams that lose a player of Carmelo's caliber get significantly worse for a long while, not significantly better, as the Nuggets have. Ujiri has made the most of the assets he got in the NY trade and continues to make sound GM decisions that improve the Nuggets. I'm thrilled he's GM, and he should be as much in the conversation as any GM is.

Case made

Hard to argue, the dude seems to be a step ahead of the curve by most accounts. Helluva nice guy too! He and Josh…. both really nice dudes seemingly, from the brief moment I met them at a Stiffs Night Out event last season, shortly after the Melo trade.

I'd agree with this

Some of these moves are absurdly good. I almost wonder how David Stern could veto Chris Paul going to the Lakers but didn’t veto the Corey and Rudy for a 2nd rounder trade with the Mavs.

I actually think getting Miller over Felton was a great decision. Maybe Andre will accept 3-4 years and midlevel-ish money to come off the bench for 30 min a game come seasons end?

Moneyball

Saturday night I watched moneyball for the first time and all I could think about was how lucky we are to have Masai. I wonder who Masai would hire (if he could) if Josh fired GK.

He has my vote.

Faried takes over for KMart
Hamilton will be better JR Smith
Marketing Director of the Mozgov Militia!

Overall

I’d like to see what he can do in the long run, I mean.. Al Davis was a very good GM in his prime and slowly decayed as time went by.. sometimes I still think he is alive.

Anyway, I think right now, he is the best GM we’ve had, and he looks out for what the fans want, and he is a very competitive guy.

We all said he’d bring in Euros and he sort of did, but they are talented ones.. so hey nothing wrong with that!

Totally Agree

Moving forward, it will be interesting to see how he deals with Chandler, Birdman, Dre, Manimal, Hamilton & Stone…..and what about Chu Chu?

Everyone should be respected as an individual, but no one idolized.

Masai is the man!

But did anyone watch that first episode of ‘The Association’?

Why do they put him in such a shitty little office? My cubicle is roomier.

Haha I thought the same thing!

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
