Will the Nuggets Association airing help the team?

We have seen players get "star" calls where the refs don't call it exactly fair according to the book. A lot of that has to do with the exposure of a "star" player in the national media. Since Denver is basically in "fly over" land according to the mainstream media, it rarely gets the national exposure given to large market teams especially on the coasts. Now we have a nice chance at a season long exposure on the national level that is simply unheard of for this team.

The jump below.

Star-divide

What players do you think will get the best chance on getting "star" calls because of this exposure? My choice for first player to benefit would be Ty Lawson as he plays a very dynamic visible position that plays well for the media. Gallo would be my second player because of the attractiveness of his match up against the other star players at his position that can be hyped up.

I would love to see Nene get the calls but it may be too late for him as he has been in the league long enough that the refs have an ingrained reaction not to give him those sorts of calls.

Write respectfully of your SB Nation community and yourself.

Um

I think officials should call fouls that are fouls. Not bail out calls.

Not saying that I disagree that stars get star calls, they do. Just saying it is totally stupid one of the things that I really hate about NBA officiating.

As far as Denver not getting respect, I think it has less to do with the “flyover country” aspect and more to do with Denver never being an elite team. Case in point: San Antonio.

As soon as Denver starts winning and making noise, Denver is not going to get the attention of the media and the refs. It’s not a conspiracy.

Can you not read?

Are you one of those Nuggets fans who think it was a conspiracy by officials to help the Oklahoma City win the series? Cos I’ll also admit there was some bad officiating there, but that isn’t what cost Denver the series by a long shot: it was poor free-throw shooting.

I am responding to your comment that the refs thing is not a conspiracy

I agree that the Nuggets get calls sometimes and sometimes they don’t. I don’t know if it is part of the conspiracy or not.
However, unfortunately, there are bad signs that point to an NBA reffing conspiracy in general.

Oh, there are shady things I've seen in the past

Where either the officials are inept or corrupt. Especially that Kings-Lakers series. But it is nigh impossible to prove a conspiracy. More like rogue refs with agendas against some teams and players. And most likely just terrible officiating, period.

But I’ve seen nothing to indicate that there is some league-wide bias against the Nuggets from the NBA league office or its cabal of officials. Even some close games in the playoffs that were marred by a bad call or two could have been remedied by the Nuggets making their free throws at the same percentage they did in the regular season.

Really, I think a team and its fan base lose the right to blame officiating when the team can’t do simple things like make free throws or box out. The best way to take officials out of the game is to have a 25-point lead.

Agree with that wholeheartedly

This year’s Nugs won in spite of the refs in the Philly game, but couldn’t overcome it in the SA game.
But anyway, if we can generally win in spite of the refs it should be a good sign come playoff time.
I don’t blame the refs in our OKC playoff series loss. I blame youth and inexperience on that one. Most of our key players hadn’t played in the playoffs or only played in one series. Plus Moz didn’t even get to play and I think he would have neutralized Perkins for the most part.
Plus Moz has come up huge in the big games for us (MIA, LAL, NYK just to name a few).

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
