Free Faried!

I am inspired by a line from Childish Gambino (Donald Glover's rap project) - "Don't talk; do shit." I am sure this won't amount to much, but I am getting tired of whining about George Karl's use of our bench. In a compacted season, we are seeing injury after injury, and George Karl is remaining stubborn - he's not taking a macroscopic look at the season.

We all know how many stars have been hurt: Derrick Rose, CP3, Ginobli, and Hortford to name a few. But as Woj pointed out in his most recent article, a lot of these injuries are rare and bizarre amongst basketball players. These guys are working their bodies way too hard.

We have seen begun to see the cracks within our own Nuggets. Gallo, Lawson, Nene, Rudy, and Moz have all been bitten by the injury bug, and how much time will it be before we see Chris Andersen go down? At that point will George Karl go to the rusty, deep end of the bench and give Koufos, Hamilton, Stone, and Faried some burn? Probably not. He'll use a 6 man rotation and run our team into the ground before the playoffs (kidding...kind of).

Therefore, Denver Stiffs, I ask that if you are on twitter that you join the #FreeFaried campaign.

Why Kenneth Faried? Because much like Tebow he is iconic, raw, and brings the certain intangibles to the game. Frankly, I would love to see any of these guys periodically thrown into the mix to get experience and rest our go-to guys, but truth be told, I am most interested in Kenneth. Besides "Free Faried" has such a nice ring to it!

How do we do this? On twitter, every day, I will tweet Benjamin Hochman, Aaron Lopez, Chris Dempsey, Roundball Mining, DenverStiffs, and anyone else on twitter who has Nuggets swing with the hashtag "#FreeFaried" until Kenneth gets semi-regular playing time.

What can this possibly accomplish? Well, we have a large, dedicated community here and if the Tim Tebow debacle has taught us anything, fans can pressure teams to take new directions. In fact, Utah Jazz fans successfully ran the same campaign with Alec Burks who has played very well with the time he has been given.

I hope this will inspire some of you irritated Denver Stiffs to do something. Who knows? Maybe we can make some noise.

Write respectfully of your SB Nation community and yourself.

Maybe, since you described him as "raw" that is why he isn't getting playing time

You don’t want 4-year college players to be raw, you expect them to be able to play from day 1.

I think the real point boils down to this

Do we win with Faried on the floor? How are we sure? Are we doing bad in rebounding this year? Because that is what Faried was drafted for. Because it is his rebounding skills more than any part of his game that is valued most. Denver is ranked 11th this year in Defensive Rebound Rate, which isn’t bad for a team that plays small ball a lot. Oddly we were ranked 5th in defensive rebound rate last year so we took a step back in that aspect.

I think that Faried should replace Bird though because Chris Anderson isn’t known for being particularly good at anything except giving a boost of energy to the second unit. He was athletic back in the day but now he has to depend more on his NBA skill which I don’t think there is enough of to make up for his lack of athletic ability anymore. I would like to see Faried play more because he would give the Nuggets the same thing Bird did a few years ago.

So I do think he should get 15-20 minutes a game. However with the lack of a proper training camp I don’t think Faried got enough training under George Karl for him to really trust Faried or get Faried to tune in on his skill-set.

I’m just saying that players that play 4 years in college get a lot more playing time than college players who played 1 or 2 years in college. That is where I am a bit worried at because George Karl hasn’t unleashed Faried yet when he should. Especially tonight with the Wizard because we should win that game by 15+ points, Faried should get 15-20 minutes in tonight’s game.

the difference with Tebow

is that the Broncos truly sucked. They were desperate.

The Nuggets are winning. If Faried is good enough, he will get time this year.

And how long will the Nuggets win

Or how well will they do in the playoffs when those 8 guys have been run into the ground.

I (as well as many of us) have been calling for Faried

to at least get some of Birds minutes. At this point im okay with not playing Faried in Games we have under control. For those few games, where it seems the energy is lacking, regardless of the score, that is when Faried NEEDS to be inserted. So what he is sometimes out of place- how many times have we seen the bird out of place, Faried is a phenomenal talent, and will insert energy. Remember the Sacto game, I was there, and even though we were killing them there wasn’t any energy in the building. Insert Faried, everyone went crazy. Give him minutes at home IF nothing else

There can be two!

What people don’t get is that in a small market, sites like these have much more influence than they think. I mean, didn’t Josh and Masai show up to the Carmelo leaving party?

I don’t expect success, but I’m sure Hoch always needs something to write about and this would be as good as anything.

Faried wont play much

because GK doesnt play rookies…I think Faried is better than Birdman right now and can help us with rebounding issues… but GK is stubborn coach

Everybody is on the bandwagon. Reality, he’s not gonna play significant minutes anytime soon.

GK is stubborn coach

Obviously. :p

And people say Twitter can't lead to anything ...

Keeping Faried aware that Nuggets Nation is behind him is a good thing, I say. Also, to keep Karl aware that people care. That’s what it’s all about.

I hope we see some more Manimal

but I do believe he is being massively overrated like Tebow because of what you mention. He is still a late 1st round pick from a weak draft in his rookie year. Unlike the Broncos, the Nuggets have it pretty figured out and are winning. But patience guys, he will be a Nugget for at least 3-4 years and will progress with his career here and we will see plenty Manimal.

I see what Karl is doing…if only he was that clever.

Gotta love the haterz. Keep that hate a comin'

I keep watching the highlight of the Sacto game.

many rookies and young players pound their chests and yell to the crowd after making a play like Faried did. He simply threw it down and continued to play and got back into position, even after being up by 30. If that is not a sign of maturity and readiness- I don’t know what is.

by Mancar on Jan 20, 2012 2:22 PM MST reply actions

Where do I sign?

I support this. But at the same time, I’m not that sore at Karl for not playing him more so much as I am sore at the rest of the Nuggets for not having more blowouts that would force Karl to get Kenneth off the bench.

Oh man. I’m sleepy. Glad it’s an early game.

Is your love worth the nausea it could bring?

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
