Denver Nuggets? Kevin Love?
Hi guys,
This is my first fan post so I hope it is up to standard with the other great ones I've read. But just how exactly can we see Kevin Love in a Nuggets jersey soon? Look below.
Nuggets: JR. Smith, Wilson Chandler, and future second round draft picks
for
Timberwolves: Kevin Love and Martell Webster.
The Nuggets, as we all know, have a lot of great players who are free agents this summer. One of the biggest problems will be if unrestricted free agent Nene decides to part with the organisation. And with JR. Smith 99% leaving and other players being seriously considered by other teams, the Nuggets could make a move that would change the franchise into a serious contender in the West.
Kevin Love has already stated that he wants out of Minnesota, however, he has not made a big issue like Melo did last year. And the Timberwolves would not let him walk away for nothing. Plus, it would make sense of them to clear out their logjam at the post positions with young and improving players; Michael Beasley at SF, Derrick Williams at PF, and Darko Milicic at C. What the Timberwolves lack severely is scoring and shooting at the wing.
For the Timberwolves, JR Smith could start at the 2 spot and be given the green light to take more shots than he would in Denver. He could probably lead the team in scoring and average near 20ppg. Derrick Williams would get to start straight away and gain quick experience. Plus, while the TWolves would give up Love, who is still improving, they gain a wing player who is similar to Beasley and also improving much.
For Denver, we would have one of the most complete teams in the league. With Love playing the 5 he will provide great rebounding for a team who is losing their starting center(Nene) and leading rebounder(K-Mart) to age. And a big problem the Nuggets had over the past few seasons was rebounder, which explains why Kenneth Faried was drafted. With both of them starting in the paint, the Nuggets will have one of the most intimidating front courts in the NBA. And with Galinari and Afflalo being very good shooters, on offence the flow should go smoothly. If Love decides to play a while on the perimeter, it opens up the floor for Ty Lawson to penetrate and drive to the hoop with ease.
While the details above should make a lot of sense for both teams, you may be asking yourself, "Why Martell Webster?". Simply to make the trade more favorable for the Wolves. JR Smith is expected to around 6mil. and Wilson Chandler would make between 3-5mil. So their combined salary would be near 10mil. Kevin Love's salary is only about 4mil. so the wolves can get rid of their bench wing player Martell Webster(5.5mil.) to make salary player room. And because both Denver and Minnesota have a lot of salary space, this trade could lead to more changes for both teams. If the TWolves wanted to use Chandler to find a better center and let Beasley own the SF spot they could spend big. Or sign Tyson Chandler if they wanted to. The Nuggets would also have salary to beef up their bench. If this trade went down, both teams would look like this...
TWolves
Ricky Rubio, JR Smith, Michael Beasley, Derrick Williams, Darko Milicic
Luke Ridnour, Wesley Johnson, Wilson Chandler, Anthony Randolph, Brad Miller
Nuggets
Ty Lawson, Arron Afflalo, Danillo Galinari, Kenneth Faried, Kevin Love
Andre Miller, Martell Webster, Al Harrington, Chris Anderson, Timofey Mozgov
The Timberwolves' new look is very athletic with Smith, Beasley, Williams, and Tolliver on the bench.
The Nuggets have a very complimentary starting and bench line up. Would it be beneficiary for both teams?
Well probably more so for Denver however, this is a good trade for Minnesota if Love was going to leave one or another way.
I really hope you guys enjoyed this read. If you have any questions or comments feel free to express them. I am just an amateur writer still in school so any feedback would be great.
Thanks!

look my main mayn
there’s some inherent problems here. Playing Love at center is probably a worse idea than starting Nene there. Furthermore, playing him alongside Faried gives your front line an average height of like 6’8.
With that being said, do you have proof that Kevin Love wants out? I know he has been frustrated with losing, but from what I gather, he’s made no indication about wanting to leave. I understand that the NBA thinks David Khan is an idiot and I agree with that sentiment, but even he wouldn’t trade a young all-star who is only improving for Chandler and Smith. Your more realistic option, not necessarily a better one, but a more realistic one would be Beasley. Welcome to the board.
Exactly
Love at Center makes absolutely no sense. He is best suited to play 4. Also, I cannot see us shipping out the players you named. Why would they take JR in a trade when they can get him in FA? I am sorry, but this won’t happen.

None of the trades listed make any sense whatsoever for the TimberWolves
Love is their franchise player.
However, that would be a very sick Nuggets’ team.
Next season, either Beasley or Williams will come off the bench, giving the Wolves some semblance of bench depth for the first time in years. This trade would eliminate that completely.

Love is not their franchise player
He’s been their best player…1 season. All of their fans are excited about RIcky Rubio and Derrick Williams. They should definitely consider trading Love so they can start Williams and get some depth.
yup
and I’d steer clear of most Minny players because they’ve contributed to a terrible team. I’m not sold on KLove.
Those of you who love Love, question → How many big men in the history of the NBA have been at the top of the league in reb’s, shooting%, double-doubles and the team flat out sucked? Please give me a name or two because I cant think of any.
KL value range could be from B+ to, as low as a D. I just dont know but I dont want him anywhere near a Nug uniform until I know.
Rubio? Where do I start? Hmmm, how about, he sucks in Europe. If he does well, great. We could use a little flash, great passes but I’ve never seen the kid do anything but shake his hair and he’s no Pete Maravich.
Minny better hope that D Williams is the real thing or else that team stays item A for need to contract.
Of course
When was the last time a guy who averaged those stats was given a supporting cast so horrible?

I dont know
Love deserves credit for great numbers, he must have some talent, but a great big man should be able to turn any cast into at least a mediocre team and Love hasnt done that
Dont get me wrong. I like Love, Im just not sold on him but that could change
Ok, then
How many wins do you think Dwight Howard could get if the other four starters were Luke Ridnour, Wayne Ellington, Michael Beasley, and Darko Millicic and if his bench was bottom in the league in production on both ends of the court?

just because he's not their franchise player
doesn’t mean you HAVE to trade him. Williams has stated multiple times he wants to be a SF which means him and Love could play together.
ok...
but they drafted a sf last year in Wesley Johnson. You don’t give up on a guy after 1 year. They also traded for Beasly last year, who is way way more of a sf than Derrick Williams. On top of that they have Anthony Randolf, another PF. Just goes to show Kahn doesn’t know what he’s doing. He’s gotta unload someone somewhere to get a center, shooting guard, and probably a point guard.
agreed
but that doesn’t mean you unload your best player, an all-star who is still improving. Also, although we agree that Wesley Johnson is a SF, they play him at SG.
they unloaded their best player last year
they sent Al Jefferson to Utah for 2 lottery protected 1sts! Also, Love is an all star like David Lee or Chris Kaman are all stars. He was only put in the all star team cause of how much he rebounds, and the only reason he rebounds so much is because Darko plays center, and that guy is afraid of rebounding, so Love has to do it all himself.
I will say this:
they could’ve gotten more for Al Jefferson and it was foolish of them that they didn’t, but unloading him was not a mistake. The guy (as a basketball player) is not a winner. He’s never been to the playoffs (to my knowledge) and he’s always been on bad teams. He goes to Utah and they don’t even make the playoffs. I’m not saying it all has to do with him, but the guy is a black hole on offense. He gets the ball in the post and rarely passes it out. He’s not good on defense. There’s a reason why Utah has since traded for Derrick Favors and drafted Enes Kanter because Jefferson isn’t that old. They’re also trying to trade Jefferson, so again, I don’t want to defend Kahn, but getting rid of Jefferson and opening up playing time for Love proved to be an intelligent move.
Whether Love is an an all star like Lee or Kaman remains to be seen and I think it’s too early to make that statement. Love is still improving. Last year was the first year he got starters minutes and his stats soared. Part of that is because he’s on a bad team, but he was a good rebounder in college too, so if you’re going to discount that then you would have to do the same in reference to Faried. Finally, Love is developing a nice three point shot. I tend to think the guy has a knack for rebounding the ball. Do I think he should be a team’s best player? No. Do I think he could be a contending team’s 3rd best player? Absolutely. Especially if that team had a defensive specialist for a center.
Kahn got rid of Jefferson
because he “believed in Darko”. Go back to Kahn’s press conference, exact words. Sure Love’s minutes went up this year, but they could have gone up with Jefferson there at center and Love at PF. Yeah I don’t think Jefferson is that good either, but he is better than Darko. Kahn also gave up on lottery pick (Flynn) after just 2 years to make room for a guy (Rubio) coming off the bench and shooting under 40% fg and under 30% from 3. And he ditched one of the draft picks he got from Utah to do it. If there’s anyone that’s totally lost it’s Kahn.
well for the record, Darko is a better defender than Al Jefferson
he’s also CONSIDERABLY cheaper too. Jefferson and Love could not play together. You might as well just put in cardboard cutouts on the defensive end if you have those two playing together.
Flynn was a huge mistake, I’m not even going to try to debate that and it certainly speaks to Kahn’s stupidity. All I’m saying is, Kevin Love is not as bad as you’re making him sound. If you can rebound, you can rebound no matter what team you’re on.
My originl point was he's not the best player on a contending team
and probably not a playoff team in the west. Fine he’s a good re bounder, and can shoot 3s, but they can trade him. That’s my point.
and my point is that he's not the best player on a contending team
but that you would be foolish to trade him.
right, under normal circumstances
a team would hold onto a player like love, but the wolves just used the highest pick in their team history on a guy who plays the same position as Love. Love hass been quoted as unhappy in minny. They desperately need an upgrade at center and shooting guard. I think all if they can get a 2 and 5 with potential for Love, they should highly consider it.
Al Jefferson was not their best player in 2009-2010
His percentages were inferior to those of Love, and Love’s per-36 minute production dwarfed Jefferson’s. Also, Jefferson was, and still is, a subpar defender, possibly even worse than Love. Jefferson also doesn’t have the range that Love has.
Quitter's People United #25, in honor of the career of Anthony Carter
"Sometimes I get this crazy dream, that I could just drive off in my car. But you can travel over ten thousand miles, and still stay where you are" - Harry Chapin
so you're saying Love was more efficent
fine, but Jefferson put up better stats. For example, Afflalo and Ty Lawson’s efficiency per 36 minutes made Melo look like the 3rd best player on our team, yet melo still put up the star stats and was treated like one, and seen by one by the fans. Even though Love was more efficient, Jefferson put up the best stats, and was more legit at center than Darko
Jefferson's contract is huge.
Few of those teams will take him on. And he’s not a center.
whatever Utah wants from their roster
there’s no one on Houston’s roster that they can build around.
Why do you believe Jefferson is so good?
In my eyes, he’s a big man with above average offensive production but very pedestrian averages who sucks at defense and always looks like he could shed 10-15 pounds.
Quitter's People United #25, in honor of the career of Anthony Carter
"Sometimes I get this crazy dream, that I could just drive off in my car. But you can travel over ten thousand miles, and still stay where you are" - Harry Chapin
Jefferson has flaws, I won't argue that
but he averaged 18.6points and 10 rebounds. ANd a team like pheonix or houston would want a big man that can do that. In fact his lack of defense would make him perfect for pheonix, who needs a pf
And yet you value Jefferson over Love
Who averaged 2 more points, 5 more rebounds, and 1 more assist per game. Love had a PER 4.2 higher than Jefferson and a WS-per-48 almost twice that of Big Al.
To your credit, Al Jefferson gets many more blocks, but Jefferson pays for it with a significantly higher foul rate.
Also, if you see here, Love has a Personal Offensive Rating of 123, which is ridiculously good.

I was comparing Love to Al Jefferson
2 seasons ago. Yes, Love is the better player between the two right now, but 2 years ago when Love and Jefferson were on the same team, almost everyone would tell you Jefferson was their best player without looking deep into efficiency stats.
But efficiency does matter...
Would you prefer the 2003-2004 Larry Hughes over the 2010-2011 Arron Afflalo? Hughes’ per-game statistics would generally have been better than Afflalo’s, but Afflalo would beat Hughes in any meaningful efficiency comparison
Quitter's People United #25, in honor of the career of Anthony Carter
"Sometimes I get this crazy dream, that I could just drive off in my car. But you can travel over ten thousand miles, and still stay where you are" - Harry Chapin
Love is/was/will always be better than Al Jefferson
Love’s per-36 minute production was the same in 2010-2011, but his statistics rose to league-best because the idiotic Rambis decided to give Love the 36 mpg that he deserved instead of the 28-29 mpg that he was given the season before.
Jefferson has NEVER averaged 20+ ppg, 15+ rpg, and 2.5 apg, and he NEVER WILL.
Love had a RIDICULOUSLY GOOD WS-per-48 minutes rating of 0.210 even on his craptastic team. Win Shares measures contribution to the team in terms of wins, and being on a good team actually increases your Win Shares, so it’s amazing that Love managed his WS ranking. Nobody else in the NBA Top 10 in WS was on a losing team, much less a team that was worst in its conference.
The combined WS-per-48 minutes of the rest of the Wolves is about half of Love’s WS-per-48. Al Jefferson’s WS-per-48 was 0.128 last season, and his maximum career WS-per-48 was 0.140, which is average. Anything above 0.200 (like Love had) is considered starting-All-Star worthy. Anything above 0.240 is considered absolutely amazing. Anything above 0.280 is considered a legendary season.
http://www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_2011_leaders.html
WS is a true indicator of a player’s talent and contribution to the team. Thus, Lebron James consistently leads the league in WS and WS-per-48, because, as much as we hate him, we have to admit that he is a HELLUVA player.

"Sometimes I get this crazy dream, that I could just drive off in my car. But you can travel over ten thousand miles, and still stay where you are" - Harry Chapin
Lee and Kaman have never come close to being the second highest rated PER player
And I don’t even have to look that one up.
I’m absolutely sold on Love. I think he is a superstar in the making and will be one of the best players in the league for a looooooooong time. It’s not his fault he has absolutely no one else on the team (Beasley….mehhhhhhhh).
Why live life on the edge, when you can jump off?
Anthony from bondage will deliver Gallinari
Beasley is very inconsistent on offense; he'll score 35 one day and score 10 the next
Beasley also slacks off on defense, allowing opposing forwards to breeze by him.
Few realize that Love is a superb three point shooter (42% from behind the arc on around 3 att. per game), and he is an incredible free throw shooter for a big man (85% from the line). Love also has a great work ethic and has shown significant improvement in the 3 years he’s been in the league.
It seems like Love will have to prove himself Dirk Nowitzki style; whatever he does, people will just dismiss as luck or favorable circumstances.
On the other hand, we see players like Andrew Bynum and Al Jefferson, who are severely overrated but still somehow come off as much better players in the eyes of many fans.

Love's PER is high because he averaged 15 rebounds again
Put a center next to him that knows how to rebound and it’ll prbly fall to around 10. His minutes also soared compared to previous years because there was really no one else on that team. Realistically, put Love on a good team, he won’t give you all star stats, but a double double, yes.
Good first post, Jooshipoo
1. You don’t have nene in the nuggets line up any where. I think this is a mistake. Nene has a lot going for him here, and they’ll resign him.
2. JR Smith is an unrestricted free agent.Minny could sign him without us getting involved, so you’re trade is only plausible if JR agrees to do a sing and trade, and we don’t know to what capacity that will exist in the new CBA.
3. Minnesota has Beasly and Wesley Johnson, 2010 4th overall pick, at sf, so they don’t need another in chandler. I doubt chandler would be happy playing back up 2, also. On top of that chandler is a restricted free agent, and rules state you can’t sign and trade a restricted free agent, at least under this CBA.
Minny has issues at center, shooting guard, and point guard. Yes, Point guard. Rubio came off the bench for a bad European team. That doesn’t scream NBA starter to me. We can’t give up chandler, probably not JR, and no extra point guard.
I can see a trade like Jordan Hamilton, Timofey Mozgov, and 2 1st for Kevin Love. But I really don’t want to move Hamilton.
BTW: that would leave Pg-Ty, Sg- AAA Sf- Gallo Pf- Kevin Love C- Nene
Good post
But timberwolves wont trade love but we could trade jr smith for beasly

Love Beasley's talent but
he makes JR seem like the model of stability and consistency
Too many Nug fans are looking over at Minny as if they have players we should poach. Look, let’s just see what we got because no team played better than Nugs after trade – before playoffs. Our won-lost differential was amazing, our defense improved 10 pts!!!
We went into playoffs missing key players. Be patient and screw Minny
i agree with that statement
but i would still do a sign and trade JR for Beasley. I agree they’re both headcases though.
No to Love
He is a beast on the boards but his D is flat out TUUUUURIBLE…. doesn’t fit the mold of the “new nuggs”
ditto!
Look, I’d love to love Love but cant just yet.
Again, if he’s so great how come Minny sucks? Is he just a glorified David Lee?
not a glorified david lee
btwn the time mt.mutmbo left 2 we got melo, how bad did we sux? bc of the front office?
Mutombo left during the summer of 1996
We drafted Melo during the summer of 2003. That’s a seven year difference, and letting go of Mutombo did not lead directly to Melo by any stretch of the imagination. Rather, Kiki’s decision to give Bzdelik one of the most gutted out rosters in history (Junior Harrington!) led to a 17-65 season which led to the lottery screwing us over and the third pick, which we used on Melo.

Thanks for your first post, interesting stuff.
I don’t see J.R. agreeing to a sign and trade to Minny or Chandler for that matter – would be a hard one to pull off and I’m not sure the T-Wolves are looking to deal Love before he gets a chance to play with Williams and Rubio.

Agreed
I would expect Minny to stand pat until the deadline. They definitely have a logjam at forward but I think they want to see which guys work best with Rubio before giving one of them up. My guess is they try to move Beasley around deadline time
