The Draft Thread

Now that the season has concluded with the Mavs winning the championship, it is time to start gearing up for the NBA Draft.  That's right folks, the NBA draft is Thursday, June 23rd and the Nuggets have the number 22 pick.  Who should they take?  A strong rebounder in Kenneth Faried?  A wild card combo guard in Josh Selby?  Perhaps a real flier on big man Jeremy Tyler?  These are just some of the intriguing players projected to be available around the time the Nuggets draft.  Let this fanpost be the spot where we share our thoughts on who we should take or trade on draft night.

Write respectfully of your SB Nation community and yourself.

Hmmm, on second thought

Draft Express has the Nuggets picking Iman Shumpert. and I’m totally good with this pick.
With the quality of this draft (or lack thereof) I’m assuming any decent Big (with even imagined potential) is likely gone, before the Nuggets pick.

Faried and a decent PG.

I like both Faried and Shumpert

I would love to get a rebounder. Even though Faried is undersized, rebounding translates well from college to the pros. Shumpert would provide us with that tall PG that can also play off the ball when Karl will undoubtedly go with his 2 pg lineup.

Watched a little video on Faried

He’s a hoot to watch. The Nuggets could do worse.

It's a weak draft in general.

If this pick ends up not panning out, I don’t think anyone would be surprised. As it is, I think you go for an immediate impact player with limited upside (Faried), try your best to fill a potential hole (Shumpert) or go for a high risk pick and not really worry too much if it ends up being a bust (Tyler).

Honestly, I think the best thing for the Nugs would be to try to use the pick to help get a team to take Harrington’s contract.

Signatures are for wimps.

i too have little interest in him

They say he was a top 5 recruit before he dropped out of high school to play in Israel. Of course a lot can happen between junior year top 5 recruit from high school and the NBA – if I remember correctly Vincent Yarborough was one of the top 3 recruits from his high school year and we all know how that worked out…

I'd be cool with

Faried, Shumpert, Jenkins, Nolan Smith, or Selby. Mostly just glad we’re actually (likely) going to draft SOMEBODY!!!

Shumpert

Faried will be gone by 22, Shumpert will be an excellent backup option in years time. We don’t even have to deal Felton for this to be a good pick as it is Felton is now an expiring contract and not likely to resign with the team after next season

The nuggets are going to move Felton and a pick to the kings for the number 7 pick! Calling it now.

by soloking on Jun 21, 2011 10:14 PM MDT reply actions

and by calling it now do you mean you just read it on hoopshype?

I hope they do though. Felton is only going to be a distraction and we don’t need Lawson looking over his shoulder either. They seem to be high on Biyombo. I have my concerns but if he turned into Ben Wallace the Nuggets would be defensive stalwarts. I heard the Spurs are targeting the same pick

they're offering Tony P

wonder whats more desirable to Sac.

Tony P, a proven veteren(29) winner, but on a 4 year deal worth an average of 12.5 a year.

or felton, a younger (27) but still veteren leader, one a 1 year deal worth 7.5 Mil.

the spurs want the trade partner to take Richard Jefferson and his large contract as well. It would be great if we trade Felton and the Knicks swap Chauncey for Nash and then release Chauncey!

I’m just saying that I think it’s going to happen!

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
