I hate the early offseason..

But, hell what can we do. The Nuggets made it this far with a "superstar" so I still think that the Nuggets did a very good job of handling adversity. Although I think that the Nuggets could've, would've and should've made it to the second round but we played 5 vs. 8 basketball during the first round. I have no more reason to watch the NBA maybe unless the Heat/Celtics match-up. I think this is a list of what FO would do.

1.) Re-sign Nene. This is the primary move that the FO should do because Nene is the "it" in this team. If Nene plays well, the team is almost unbeatable. Although he's sometimes shy and timid I still think that Nene will help us through this No-Star days.

2.) Resign AAA. Arron Afflalo is the one guy that gives this Nuggets team a hint of consistency. Afflalo had a bad end to this season following that hammy injury. I remember I had a hammy injury before. It's not really painful but, it has a irritating and nagging feeling on the hammy. It also takes a long while before it heals up. I think some team will try to overpay and steal Arron from us. But I think Arron wouldn't follow the money but what he loves: the Mile High City.

3.) Get rid of Al Harrington. Harrington gave us almost nothing this season. My first impression last offseason about signing Al was like okay... a good move for the team. And fuck what does he do? He burns leads when he is on the floor, doesn't rebound, doesn't defend. He takes ill-advised threes and fucking to mention I personally hate Al's sense of style on the court. He looks like a fucking manequin with all those arm sleeves, head bands, calf sleeves and all his bodily bullshit. Maybe we could steal Jason Thompson from the Kings or maybe Amir Johnson from the Raptors. Or maybe David Kahn could give us Anthony Randolph and Anthony Tolliver. Bottomline: Get that shit outta here!

4.) If J.R. wants to walk, let him be. I know I'm going against the wagon here but if J.R. Smith wants to go let him go. I get an eerie feeling that a team will overpay J.R. or offer him a starting spot. I think he will follow the money. And I also have a feeling the FO wouldn't even bother to offer him a mid-level 3 year extension because of George Karl. Somebody has to get out from Denver. Is it gonna be Karl or Smith?

5.) Lock up Gallo for long. I'm gonna go straight to the point. Danilo Gallinari could be a future All-Star. He looks to me like a young, more agile version of a Dirk Nowitzki. If Gallo could keep his shit together, he has some serious potential.

6.) Seek other coaching options. I heard that Rick Adelman is in the outs of Houston. In my opinion he's gonna be the perfect coach for the Nuggets. He knows how to handle teams without superstars and he fits the play style of the current Nuggets lineup. With Ty Lawson on the controls, this team could be among the highest-scoring teams in the league next season. Look at how he handled the 2008-2009 Rockets in the playoffs without Yao Ming. They almost took down the Lakers in that series. The 2009-2010 Rockets. Without Yao or McGrady for the whole season, they still managed to pry a winning record. The 2010-2011 Rockets. With Kevin Martin as his go-to guy they almost sneaked into the playoffs with and undersized lineup. Plus if we could get Karl out of Denver we could keep JR Smith.

First off...

Karl’s not going anywhere, whether you want him to leave or not

I agree with most of what you said. I’m just not sure if we’re able to sign Danilo to an extension right now. Who knows, the new CBA could prohibit it

His contract is guaranteed

And there will be a PR backlash if we suddenly fire Karl

You say that but I'd say this place is one of the only places where you'll here Fire GK.

Listening to sports talk in Denver they may be critical of some of his moves but for the most part you’ll hear about his wins and how he’s a HOF’er.

Well, you see...

There’s going to be HUGE media rants if we fire this guy who fought off cancer (twice) to come back to coach this team. Also, GK likes this team and likes Denver. Free Agents are also less likely to consider going to Denver. It’d be a nightmare

Both right

Good post NugFan

Agree with just about everything you wrote.

Nene needs to stay and mainly be a PF next to Moz or another true center. OKC having Perk, freed up Ibaka to do a lot of damage. A big center will do the same for Nene. Cant stay with some PFs? Just defend inside and force outside shots.

AAA will be the glue of this team. The guy is smart as could be too.

Gallo could have a little Bird in him. I didnt say a little Bird on him. I said in him. Actually I’m not sure that sounds better.

OK. What I mean is that he has some of the overrall skill that L Bird did but at about 70%. For more, Larry would have to lend Gallo his brain.

I could see an at least occasional lineup of Moz, Nene, Gallo, AAA, Ty with creative subbing that includes the usuals and a little more Forbes. My lineup features a 7’1’ athletic center, a monster PF, a 6’10 small forward that shoots from outside and has a handle, a big shooting guard who can handle ball and play great Dee, and a blur at PG.

Game on.

We have to put up with Karl like he’s our crazy uncle in the attic.

We should think of adding quality if we could at a good price. However, I think we may already have what we need to be title contenders as long as the veterans lead and the young develop. I love this team.

by sgiustra on Apr 29, 2011 8:06 PM MDT reply actions

First, Karl is here to stay. no sense debating it. But we NEED a superstar – if the playoffs proved anything, it’s that we need someone the refs will actually call a foul for.

Resign Nene? Absolutely
Get rid of Harrington? Check
Sign Afflalo? No question
Let JR walk? NO DAMN WAY
Trade Felton and Birdman for something of value? Pretty Please?
Resign Kmart for a small contract? YES
Wilson/Gallo? Get em both locked up.

Any questions?

I think if you packaged the 2014 NY first, Felton, and Birdman you are going to get a potential superstar. I think if all the above happens, we are well on our way to a great future.

Here’s a fun thought:

How about using Afflalo/Felton/Anderson/2014 NY first rounder for Dwayne Wade?

Can you imagine having Ty, Wade, Chandler, Gallo, Nene? Bench depth comes at PG in the draft, two guard is still set with JR, Forbes, Kmart, and Mozgov/Koufos. In the meantime, Miami gets Felton/Afflalo/Lebron/Bosh/Anderson and some much needed depth.

Sounds pretty fair to me. I’d do this trade in a heartbeat, even as much as I like Afflalo

by Berserker13 on Apr 29, 2011 8:34 PM MDT reply actions

Not really

Ty can play with another point guard, and Wade is mainly considered to be a shooting guard. The problem about the mentioned lineup is that we will be undersized and too skinny in the frontcourt, and we’d have problems with rebounding

by Rys on Apr 29, 2011 11:28 PM MDT up reply actions

It's because Affallo is still somehow underrated by many teams

He plays defense, he plays his ass off every time he’s on the floor, he can hit the three, and he can drive to the bucket. Not to mention that he doesn’t suck at the FT line like certain players (cough, Nene/Ray/Birdman, cough).

His play during Round 1 wasn’t that great, but that’s because he wasn’t 100% after a nagging hammy injury (you need 3-4 weeks of CONTINUOUS rest to fully heal it)

and how does doin those things make him a star caIibur pIayer.

I Iike affIaIo, but the Iack of upside on this has caused fans to put too much vaIue in to their pIayers. affIaIo can shoot, but there are some nites as we have seen where his shot isnt faIIing and he struggIes offensiveIy, he can drive some but a Iot of it is when teams dont expect hiim to, he is not a one on one guy at aII. he reIies on other guys gettin him open shots, he’s battier with more shootin and Iess size and rebs and bIks.

nugget fans aIso try to make gaIIo into a star when he has much to do on his handIes, pass abiIity, defense is gettin there, but his one on one moves arent that great, and idk if that’s something that pIayers can improve much on, which is one on one abiIity, aIso has to work on shootin and rebs.

there’s aIso moz, who doesnt Iook comfortabIe in the post, his defensive position is ok, but picks up too many fouIs and doesnt have any offensive game at aII.

I do these things with jr and koufos, but I strongIy feeI that jr can be Iike 20 ppg, 7 rpg, 4 assists a game kind of guy with the pt, on decent efficiency, his per has been up there.

koufos may just be a stiff, but he’s got the size and athIeticism, he Iooked bad earIier, but when he got some pt he has improved greatIy, he worked much more comfortabIy in the post and was abIe to score with efficiency, where you can kind of feeI when he catches it there he has a great shot to score, and he aIso on dunked on some peopIe, and improved his physicaIity,. he has to work on defensive positionin though.

Dude

We don’t need Afflalo to be a star-caliber player. You don’t need every damn guy on the roster to be a star caliber player; it just doesn’t work that way. Afflalo is the PERFECT role player.

Absurd post

“5 vs.8 basketball.” You cannot be serious. OKC is a better team, with several seasons’ worth of experience playing together (save Perkins), along with a PG who’s a dangerous penetrator/scorer, not to mention a 3 who can take over as needed to close out games. That’s why the Nuggets lost. They’ll have a much better chance in the playoffs next year, after a long regular season to develop an identity.

“But I think Arron wouldn’t follow the money but what he loves: the Mile High City.” I seriously doubt Arron Afflalo is that stupid. Few players stay with professional sports franchises for well under their market value. They certainly don’t do it because they suddenly “love” the city they’ve landed in due to the vagaries of the draft or a trade. Maybe you’ve heard the utterance, “It’s a business.” It is possible that he’d be excited enough about this team’s prospects that he’d re-sign for a bit less than he could get elsewhere, but that’s for him to say. Another “but” is how murky the identity of this team still is. The FO would have to show Afflalo that they have quite an exciting plan for the future to make the case for him to sign for less than his value. Don’t you think?

“Somebody has to get out from Denver. Is it gonna be Karl or Smith?” Other commenters have already let you know how this will go. After this bizarre playoff performance, I wish the team would fire Karl (yeah, I’m no longer much of a fan), but it’s not going to happen unless the Nuggets shit the bed for the first 40 games or more next season. Even then, it’s highly unlikely they’d part with Karl.

Not quite sure what you “heard” or from whom, but many of the rest of us have read actual news reports that Rick Adelman is no longer the head coach of the Rockets. Hope he lands with a contender.

Sad post. You can do better.

No. More. Stickyball.

not happening

be more likely to get Dwight in a Nene swap. nuggets would probably want him to agree to an extension before a trade would happen, so that’s a long shot.

i think we have to just throw a bunch of money at Gasol first and make a competitive offer for DeAndre Jordan. I don’t see a whole lot of teams out there with significant cap space so I think it’s possible we could snag Gasol. Both guys would address our big need for a defensive, rebounding center. If we’re outbid or the teams match so be it. Karl will be forced to play our 7 footers and maybe they will break out. At least we’ll know what we’ve got with them. Kmart’s presence on the team will only hinder their development since Karl won’t play them.

by skithebert on May 1, 2011 2:24 PM MDT up reply actions

Are you referring to DeAndre Jordan?

There’s no way we’re getting DeAndre, even David Sterling knows that he’s good.

Also, Gasol wouldn’t really fit on this team, he’s too friggin big. Of course, several months in the gym with Hess would fix that…

We need to keep Nene, Gallo, Ty and AAA. I would like to keep Kmart for a couple million a year and maybe Chandler too. I think we need to deal with the grizzled and try to get Rudy gay. He is a star maybe not a super star. He would give us a consistent scorer and I bet memphis would like to move him due to his large contract. They want to resign Gasoline. OJ mayo might be available too. I would like to make a deal including Felton and maybe sign and trade JR for Rudy

I wouldn’t mind drafting a big that can score!!! Or a shooter like Jimmer.

by soloking on May 2, 2011 3:05 PM MDT reply actions

Jimmer wouldn't work on this team

He needs the ball too much and his game is actually pretty similar to Galinari’s, except Jimmer is 6’2" and thus he won’t be nearly as good on the NBA level as Gallinari is right now.

We need a guy like Jonas Valunciunas. Yes, he’s European (Lithuanian to be more exact) and yes, we don’t have the best drafting record with them, but he and Jan Vesely are not your typical “stay on the perimeter and shoot threes” type of Euros. Valunciunas is on the skinny side, but he’s not afraid to take contact and he has a pretty good developing post game as well as a 10-15 foot jumper. Jan Vesely is athletic as heck, it’s crazy.

I am not drinking the Moz juice some of you guys are drinking, but I think he can be a 8 ppg 8 RPG type of starting center and free up Nene a bit, than put Gallo at SF.

That is 3 guys over 6’10 in the starting lineup.

I do and I've voiced this before

trade felton + Big Al + 2014 draft pick to detroit for Rip Hamilton and lottery pick. why detroit does it? they’re trying to clear out the ruins of their championship team. Stucky is leaving as a free agent this year and felton can step in and be the starter right off the bat. WE pick up Rip for 1 year, and pistons ditch a lot of salary, and tayshaun is a FA who will prbly leave so Al can step in there. They can build around raymond and monroe, and we ditch harrington and use that pick on bismack. there’s plenty of shitty teams that need a pg. Others include Kings, T-wolves, Hawks, Charlotte, Blazers, Mavs(Kidd and JJ are old), Lakers(Fish sucks too), Hornets(once CP3 in in NY), Jazz, Suns( need replacement for nash).

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
