Around SBN: Win or Lose, Boston Celtics' New Big 3 Era A Success

Why I am one of the greatest coaches ever

A lot of junk has been said about me so I thought I would take the time to refute some of the mean things being said.

Why do I play small ball:

Playing two point guards at the same time is absolute genius.  This disrupts the other team’s defense and gives our team easy baskets.  You saw all the easy baskets we had in game 5 against OKC.  It's just that some of suck players couldn't make them.  Kmart with his easy-going jumper, sure it got blocked.  Nene not being able to make dunks, what a wimp!

Criticism of my record:

I have 1000+ wins.  Need I say more?  Apparently I do!  I have 1000+ more wins in the NBA than you do so shut your mouth.  When you coach a team in the NBA to at least ONE win come complain to me and then I will tell you to shut up and to go win 1000 more times before you can complain to me.

No championship:

I have won a ton of basketball games in the playoffs too, not just regular season.  Sure I don't have a ring but that's just a formality.  As most of you on the Denver Stiffs have said numerous times "A guy who has 1000 wins is a great coach, a legend.  Trust what he's doing".

Conflicts with JR Smith:

JR is a head case, not a good shooter, not a good defender, pouts outs when he makes a bad play which is often.  There really isn't much good to say about him so why even bring him up.  I barely know he exists.

On losing to the Thunder:

This isn't baseball where talent comes from a syringe.  This is the NBA and the better team usually wins.  This has nothing to do with my coaching.  It has everything to do with our players not being able to execute.

Three year contract:

I have three year contract with an option for more if I want.  Get used to seeing me in Denver and consider yourselves lucky to have me.

In summary, I am awesome and if you don't agree with this then why have you been defending me all season.  One playoff series and you change your mind?  Most of you know next to nothing about basketball.  Shut the heck up and let me do the thinking for this team.  I'll see you next season after my fishing trip.

I hope this is a joke

I stopped reading when you said JR is not a good shooter. I also saw the poll and hope that is also a joke. Best coach ever? He’s not even close to one of the best in the NBA. I come to this site to read intelligent basketball comments so please don’t post this trash

As in, I really want to delete my own comment

GK isn’t this cocky in his interviews, and he seems a pretty mellow guy. Now if only he could draw some better end-of-game plays…

Of course it’s a joke. I laughed out loud when the poll only had yes to vote for. Hilarious man.

by GHill33 on Apr 28, 2011 1:35 AM MDT reply actions

Agreed.

The voting was the only thing I liked. Well, that and this:
bq. “I have 1000+ wins. Need I say more? Apparently I do! I have 1000+ more wins in the NBA than you do so shut your mouth. When you coach a team in the NBA to at least ONE win come complain to me and then I will tell you to shut up and to go win 1000 more times before you can complain to me.”
However, I don’t agree that GK doesn’t even know that JR exists, in fact, I would say that GK LOVES JR because he’s an easy scapegoat.

by NuggBuckets on Apr 28, 2011 8:31 AM MDT up reply actions

Yeah your right, GK certainly loves to hate JR. At least GK is not going to have any more excuses next year than though, since JR is probably not coming back. Can’t say that i blame him at all though.

by GHill33 on Apr 28, 2011 8:17 PM MDT up reply actions

I admit, deciding how to vote was tough

Reminds me of that video after the 2004 elections where the voting machine automatically counted every vote for Bush. Guy pushes Kerry button, Bush button lights up.

I hear GK is a Democrat -if so, he should stop being so stubborn and start listening to dissenting opinions.

by slader on Apr 28, 2011 6:20 AM MDT reply actions

Yeah those were good times.

I remember they only started noticing because districts with 600 voters total would come in with 4000+ votes for bush. It was just an amazing coincidence that it never once happened in Kerry’s favor. Also that Diebold’s chairman and CEO was a major contributor to the bush/dick campaign. Thanks for those fond memories, slader!

by soloking on Apr 28, 2011 11:21 AM MDT reply actions

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

SVG is a horrible coach. If you think that GK fades away during crunch time with questionable decisions, Van Gundy is 5-10 times worse. He also doesn’t seem to have any other plays in his playbook besides “tell everybody to pass the ball to Dwight Howard and clear out,” The Magic lost to the Hawks 2-4… you know, the same damn Hawks that finished the season with an over-.500 record but negative point differential (in order to do that, you need a wildly inconsistent team that gets blown out a lot).

If we're even considering Laimbeer

We need to consider Dan Issel as well. Of course, Issel was a horrible coach, and I don’t really see how Laimbeer would be any better

Apologies, coach.

Finally this post is five years too late unfortunately.

The biggest fuck up of Karls coaching and career, when everything is said and done is gonna be complete inability to bring the best out of melo, this is gonna be painfully obvious next year after one training camp with mike in ny. Not losing in playoffs, not making adjuszments, jr smith, or general lack of coaching, no, this isnot the biggest mistake of Karl, but complete missues of Carmelo. Melo is MUCH MORE than just an isolation scorer, he has the talent to be complete basketball player, everything, carmelo is aplayer, who can execute every play in playbook, as some serious coach would say and could be much better defender at this point. But Karls ridiculos (lack of) coaching didnt utilize that and melo basically stagnant for five years in denver random basketball. Thankfully mike is completely different coach than karl and this will change.

Mike D'Antoni is also a POS

All he can teach is offense, and even at that he’s not that great (he’s rode on the back of some tremendous offensive players like Nash, Stoudemire, Melo, etc.)

I knnow that his Suns teams managed to be in the top have of the NBA in defensive efficiency, but that was more due to the efforts of individual players like Raja Bell and Shawn Marion than anything else.

no completely different coach, there is a big difference between the two. Mike actually understands the potential of melos talent, while Karl never did and that was his biggest fault, that comes directly from his ludicrus basketball philosophy.

Well mike system was perfect for nash and amare, how this arguent that they were great offensive players diminish his rola as acoach, the same can be said for phil than, but that is silly argument. reallity is that suns always destroyed nuggs when they met and most importantly suns offense was something REAL, it worked in playoffs too. Nuggs were always outcoached and become predictable and stagnant offense in playoffs, which is completely different to what happened with Suns, they were still great offensive team in playoffs, this is true testiment to mikes coaching. Regarding defense, this is another cliche and bs, you mention marion and bell, but what about amare and nash, they are both below avarage defender in nash is TERRIBLE DEFENDER, you cant be very good defensively with nash and amare playing center-suns never had any size-this was their biggest problem in playoffs and tony p destroyed nash on drives. But what should mike do, bench amare and nash, no coach in right mind would do that. You know mike had abig dispute with amare and nash because of their defense, when he first came in phoenix, but owner interwined and basically said: shut and play your cards or you are gone, and still suns were pretty damn close to reaching finals and wining all.

by BubbaChuck on Apr 29, 2011 8:38 AM MDT up reply actions

Dantoni also sucks

Let’s be honest. Karl would have gotten swept too, but I don’t get why people think DAntoni will help advance Melo. Melo followed the 40 point performance with a dud at MSG. DAntoni would run Amare into the ground (or surgery table as may be the case) than advance Melo’s talent. JR is one of the biggest failures of GK’s career. (watch JR emerge like Redd and Allen did before him after Karl was out of their lives).

Gotta love the haterz. Keep that hate a comin'

by JR15 on May 1, 2011 1:07 PM MDT via mobile up reply actions

why. Because mike uctally understands that melo is much more than just an isolation scorer, he could be easily used asa playmaker.

Mike is very good coach, one of the best in the league and completely different coach than GK;. Yep you are right about JR, he will get better, when he finds some competant coach, but this is nothinh how melo will improve under mike. People are gonna be schocked.

by BubbaChuck on May 1, 2011 5:58 PM MDT up reply actions

How does Mike understand that Melo could be a playmaker?

Out of the couple of NY games I’ve watched, it seems like the only plays are…

Melo iso
Amar’’’e iso
Fastbreak

The fact that Melo’s able to toss up the ball somewhere near the basket and have Ronny or Amar’’’e slam it down doesn’t mean that he has play making skills

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
