Stiffs in Denver: Pick-up basketball

I’m only 26 but kinda outta shape. Just quit smoking so I’m tryin to get all the exercise I can get! Usually just end up shootin around at the gym by myself so it would fun to get some real games goin

so I can color comment. :)

Seriously though, I just love to play. Down for whatever. Weeknights are my best bet.

It’d be nice to have a consistant 5 on 5 going.

if this is still going, I’ll play. I’m way out of shape right now (mainly due to not as much outdoor activities in NYC), 42 (but look 10 years younger), and have a bad knee…who wants me on their team?

Not in the greatest of shape these days, so fullcourt run n gun probably ain’t happening for awhile, but anything else I’m down for. I live in the Capitol Hill neighborhood and have several outdoor courts of varying quality nearby. Work a M-F 9-5, so weekends are definitely best.

I’m 31 yo, 6 ft, handle the ball pretty well, average (out-of-practice) shot, decent on defense.

The gym I got seems like it could work driving wise for all of us. If we can throw some dates and times out so I can run it by the owner ahead of time I’m sure I could make this work. Like I said it is a private owned gym in better shape than most rec centers. Not hardwood but plastic tiles which is easier on the knees and back. It is indoors and he used to have a giant sub to hook music too but I havent been there since spring break. There is an excess amount of basketballs so all you need is your shoes, water and your game. No alchol would be allowed obviously not like anyone would want to booz up and play anyways. Like I said if someone can organize a few dates and times I will gladly take care of the rest.

Getting to the gym is kind of tricky so my best suggestion would be to have everyone meet at teh super target right off the church ranch and teh boulder turnpike and we can carpool and all go to teh gym together so no one gets lost. Afterwards since we are in the area I know the owner of Bender’s bar and grill and could see if I brought in enough of use if he could get us deals on food and adult beverages for all of you guys since it looks like im the only under 21 guy on here (21 in august by the way).

As far as my game goes im okay. I’m 20, just about 6’ in pretty good shape since I still play hockey and used to play travel and varsity. I always play pg when I play with my friends because the guys a ball with range from 6’3 to 6’9.

Like I said to Jeff earlier even if you don;t want to run with us you can still come and watch and we can set up other games to play that don’t require as much cardio as playing 5 on 5 would such as horse, 7’s and 5 up 1 down which the last two are three point shooting games. let me know.

If ya’ll don’t want to do it at my gym and wanna do something somewhere else just let me know and I will be there.

for me at least until after May 15th when my finals are done. After that we are golden

basically I’m 5’10 and play like Andre miller, I’m a bad shooter but I am a good passer and ball handler.

I’m 5’11" and I rebound hard and have JR’esque range…

what do I bring? Nothing…absolutely nothing. But that has never stopped me before..well yes it has but that’s beside the point.

Made my battalion basketball team. We got 2nd in our area which included 2 colleges. 6’2" and can shoot a 3 and dunk. Also able to box out for rebounds against guys much much taller than me. Being 255 lbs, they don’t find it easy to move me. I will let you know when I plan to be up there.

What I’m gathering is that Mondays and sort of Fridays after May 15th work for us in Westminster. I could do either one of those nights, but I’d prefer Mondays.

Should we plan on May 16th, 7 pm at Garretts gym in Westminster? Who could make that?

As Fly Agaric said, it is easy to get people interested, but much harder to make it happen.

So… I propose we set a time and place – Westminister would work for me, but I’d drive to Denver from Boulder. We should just get this started in the next couple weeks, and if people miss it – that’s ok. We will do it again! And again!

I for one think we should do this monthly or bi-monthly, perhaps at a different location/time each month so that a wider variety of people can make it. What say ye?

Oh and me: I’m 23 (24 may 12th) and 6’7" as posted, about 185. I have a bum knee I’m currently rehabbing (but can still play – just can’t dunk…). Need me some micro fracture. Basically, I play like Hedo Turkoglu – really every facet of his game, from his shooting to his passing and court vision… also with his athleticism and sometimes inconsistency. I played all 5 positions at some point in HS (not the same game lol).

I’m in. I play in a company organized rec league in the winter time. But I’m open during the summer. I’m 5’7" but can shot from anywhere inside of half court. Good thing is that most rec centers have a 19 foot 3 point line. The one i’m used to is NBA at 22 to 23.5
