For the front office

I dont know how this Melo situation got so bad but its at a point now where it seems like its knicks or nothing and the nets deal looks pretty damn good about now.
I would say that Masai uriji and Josh kronke are getting worried now but before they panic and do this insulting knicks trade know there are better options avaliable

Star-divide

Scenario 1 - Send Melo to Dallas along with Harrington and Andersen for Caron Butler, Tyson Chandler and roddy beaubois, Draft pick.  We get rid of our worst contracts and create alot of cap space.  beaubois is in there to use as a trade chip and would likely flick him to another team for a nice draft pick or part of another deal.  The experiment of Chandler towering it up front with Nene could work out good for us but if not we just let him walk and use the cap room on resigning players and free agents like thaddeus Young and Jeff Green to replace Melo.  Potentially we could try get either Gerald Wallace or Andre Iguodala etc for Roddy Beaubois and cap space (absorbing their contracts)

Scenario 2 - Keep Melo until the season is over before trading him to the knicks in the offseason. They have to create as much cap space as possible in order to resign Melo anyway so we could sign and trade him there for Anthony Randolph/ Wilson Chandler and a trade exception. Its essentially nothing but so is the current proposed deal.  We end up keeping Carmelo for another run and will still get the same deal essentially but with a large trade exception capable of maintaining a winning team. After this trade we use up all our resulting cap space on free agents/resigning until we reach the salary cap we then use the trade exeption on someone like Wallace or Iggy and end up with an exciting new team the fans can get behind

If someone in the organization is really looking on this site I hope they see some of the fan posts because its really the fans who matter most to the team and seem to know better options going forward.

Post Melo I could see a team consisting of

Tyson Chandler
Nene
Thaddeus Young/ trade exception player
Arron Afflalo
Chauncey Billups
---------------------------------------
Ty Lawson, Kenyon Martin, JR Smith, Balkman, Forbes, FA big (pryzbylla?)

They are just a lot of players we could end up with at different positions

sorry shouldnt have said line up….. We could get all them through the dallas trade (ridding Al and Bird) if they sign at the right price

Chandler – 8 mil
Nene – 11
Young – 6
AAA – 4
Billups – 4
-———————
35 million dollars for the starters then Balk and ty combine for about 4 and Kmart will only be back for around 3 and JR maybe 5 if we want him

Tyson Chandler is a pretty big part of what Dallas is doing this season. I don’t see them trading him and taking on a bunch of salary. Reporters, I think Marc Stein, have been saying Cuban doesn’t want to take on much salary.

agree

plus tyson is making 12 not 8 so those numbers are off

by nsink on Feb 9, 2011 2:21 PM MST up reply actions

fair enough

will Dallas be able to resign him again next season?

id rather

bid 8 mil for DeAndre Jordan than give tyson 8 mil. Sans melo we shouldnt be stocking up on over 30 year old players

That’s a good question. He’s had success there and guys tend to re-sign after a good experience, but for the right price or right pitch he could be had by anyone I would think.

He will probably take whatever they (mavs) offer

because just like everyone else these days he will want to be on a contender more than anything

STIFF LIST (as of 4/26 by Andrew Feinstein)

1. METTA WORLD PEACE

Metta resorted back to Ron Ron last Sunday by clubbing James Hardenwith an "inadvertent celebratory elbow", landing him a 7-game suspension. Apparently, changing his name didn't prevent NBA commissioner David Stern from overlooking Metta's past behavior problems.

2. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

The 'Cats are on the verge of securing the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Given that the guy who runs the team - Michael Jordan - had previously drafted Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison, should this really be a shock?

3. OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The team that was supposedly built to overcome the lockout-shortened season managed to lose 7 of its last 14 games, ceding the Western Conference's 1-seed to the Spurs in the process. Their reward might be a first round matchup with defending champion Dallas.

4. BILLY HUNTER AND DEREK FISHER
With report after report coming out about NBPA union head Hunter's shady, nepotistic dealings and questions arising about Fisher's own role in dealing with NBA owners behind Hunter's back during the lockout, this off-the-court scandal could prove to be more exciting than the playoffs themselves!

5. STEVE NASH AND THE PHOENIX SUNS
The Suns are on this list for squandering the last few great seasons from Nash. Nash is on this list for his stupidly stubborn loyalty to a franchise as awful as the Suns.
